PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Day 10 Training Camp Thread - Sunday August 8th

All those attacking Harry saying it’s only training camp. This is the FIRST training camp that he’s stayed healthy and dominated. The talent was always there. Coming into that draft, he was always rated as a 1st round pick, and at worst rated the 3rd best receiver in the draft, I even saw one ranking where he was rated as the top receiver.

Maybe, just maybe, he’s finally living up to that hype. Maybe he finally gets what it takes. Anger, no matter how misguided, is sometimes a great motivator. I remember playing Pop Warner ball, I was a DE/LB, my coach told me I was going to be 2nd string. I had never been 2nd string. That next practice, I tore it up, played the best football of my life, I was killing guys. Parents were coming up to me telling me how good I was playing. At the end of practice, my coach said, “you’re 1st string”. It was all due to anger. It really motivated me. Now I was angry at everyone except me, I was the one to blame.

Now imagine being an NFL 1st round pick. And being so angry you ask for a trade. Harry has nobody to blame but himself for his poor play. Seems like he’s finally motivated to be good. Let’s see if his good practices translates to good games.

I hate to burst your bubble here- first things first, I was at camp yesterday. I saw everything.

Sure he laid out for that ball, but it was in a one-on-one situation where he knew the ball was 100% coming for him, and he wasn't covered by an elite CB.

And I'm not sure where you get the idea that he's dominated anything. He disappears in the 11 on 11 and hasn't distinguished himself as a playmaker. He's also up to his old stuff, like pulling up short on a route or otherwise quitting. He doesn't fight for leverage. Yesterday I saw him pull up short on a go route in double coverage. The ball sailed over his head.

Sorry but I'm just not seeing any substantial breakthrough or transformation, but more importantly, consistency. As others have said, if we were going to see any substantial improvements, we would have seen it by now.

They might be replacing Dolegala with Jordan Ta'amu, who had a workout on Thursday.

Seems he can run like Cam used to. Hmm...

Maybe he’s just a camp arm.
Maybe he’s third string.
Maybe Mac is the starter and Tamu Takes Cams role on Goalline situational packages and cam is traded to Wash.
Who knows.

It was only time. Great tight end. But always injured every season

At least now it's during training camp
He missed a year with an ACL, but other than that, he's played 15, 14, 12, 14 games, which is pretty much on par for TEs, who are second only to RBs in % of injuries per game. It's a tough position, and one that puts big less-agile (than WR) bodies in unsafe positions, like Gronk running down the seam and getting his legs chopped out.

On a team planning to run lots of 2, maybe even 3, TE sets, they'd do well to keep four, not just to cover injuries, but to take the load off the big two. Asiasi, step up!

I think it may eventually be "Maybe Mac is the starter and Tamu Takes Cams role"

What reports? "Last week, Ta'amu took the New England Patriots up on an offer for a workout. It paid off, as Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has decided to bring Ta'amu into New England's training camp. , according to reports."

It's a conspiracy. Every Patriots beat writer against you.

yeah, hes getting them out of the way before the season starts.

Everybody hurts sometimes...that one season. It's normal for an NFL TE...

Well there goes my Dolegala MVP prop ticket in Vegas.

Good write up about Afernee Jennings from Lazur and where he stands on this team:

Another interesting storyline to monitor 2020 third-round pick Anfernee Jennings’s role moving forward. Jennings finds himself in a crowded linebacker room with veteran additions (Hightower, Judon, Van Noy) and another draft pick (Ronnie Perkins). Plus, fellow 2020 draft pick Josh Uche is lightyears ahead of him. Jennings is repping with the scout team defense at middle linebacker. The coaching staff either believes he’ll have more opportunity there, or he isn’t bringing it as he used to off the edge. In college, Jennings was a pure edge guy. He’s around the ball some with the scout team, which signals he’s getting it mentality. Still, you wonder if there’s a spot on the team for him. After Raekwon McMillan’s season-ending ACL injury, the opportunity is there for the taking.
