I think it is an interesting question to discuss.

for me I think it’s Brady because i do think it is pretty well known how to beat Brady and I don’t think Bill kept a secret weakness that only him has.

i think you’ll have to play some man to man and trying to put pressure up the middle. If you try to play zone against Brady, it is more probable than not that you will be shredded. I don’t think there are many things that Bill can do that Tom hasn’t seen.

An advantage that Brady has is that he played against most of these guys every day in training so he probably know ways to for example beat Gilmore in one on one, how to exploit Van Noy and Hightower.

I voted Brady because this will be his second year with the team fully in tact while the Patriots are a whole new squad. Tampa has more talent at this point so i went with Brady

Brady. He has the much better team and he will want to rip the Patriots apart. He may want to win this game as much as he has for any Super Bowl. LOL

What a great idea.

I can't understand why not a single person on this forum has ever thought of starting a "Bill or Tom" thread.

Bucs are a much better football team, and on paper they should win this game going away. But tbh I can also see Brady having a meh game. Brady knows us but BB and Josh know Tom too and they will have a plan for him and guys like KVN want to rip Brady's head off as much as Brady wants to do the same.

The reasons why I think Bucs win this game comfortably is we know who will probably be starting at QB for the Pats :(the strength of the Pats offense led by Harris is not a great matchup against this team in particular, and the Pats traditionally start the season slowly while Bill figures things out.

Injuries as always will move the needle one way or the other.

I reformulate the thread a little bit. This thread has nothing to do with who is better, who is the most responsible for the dynasty or anything like that but I thought it was interesting to discuss who can have the advantage when a QB plays his old coach in term of football perspective.

I chose Brady, because I think his knowledge has a direct connection to what will happen on the field, whereas Bill not only has to identify whatever weakness/gameplan he wants to exploit, but also get 11 guys to execute it as well. He may know exactly how he wants to attack Brady, but he needs the players to "know" it too, which adds an extra degree of separation.

I could see a scenario like we've seen with recent Chiefs matchups though. Bill will have a gameplan ready that keeps Brady relatively in check for the first half, but Brady figures it out and makes a run in the second. I doubt anyone has any strategy that will keep Brady fooled for longer than two quarters, it's just a matter of can the players maintain the pressure on him or not.

BB in terms of knowledge, but that doesn't mean he'll be able to do anything without the horses to implement it. It will come down to player matchups. Brady will have a stacked offense and a strong Bucs defense vs. what likely will be an average Pats offense + good defense. Brady can't be fooled into mistakes like a lesser QB to even the balance. Advantage Tampa Bay, but I wouldn't expect a blowout.

If you seriously think that this thread will not turn into another Team Bill vs Team Tom crapfest, you are delusional. Kudos for the subtle passive aggressive stance.

A better poll would be "Should This Thread Be"
(A) Deleted now, we all know what is going to happen
(B) Locked now, we all know what is going to happen

(D) Screw it, leave it; it's a long slow offseason and there's nothing else to talk about.

The way the question is phrased is about knowledge but most people will answer who they think which team will win (Bucs have superior talent).

.

Agreed. In a vacuum (meaning assuming both teams had equal talent), I might give BB the advantage. BUT, that would include him having a legitimate, seasoned QB to help the team keep up on offense. No matter who is QBing for the Pats, I doubt we're getting that by week 4.

I suppose another way to word the question will be: Can Belichick and the Pats defense hold the Bucs under their season average for points scored? We won't know after the game, but going by last year you'd need to hold them under 30 points. I think that's doable, assuming the defense is healthy.

The question is about knowledge, and the answer is Bill. If the question instead were about who you expect to win (and it is NOT), the answer would be Tom.

You are the one who has been agressive from the get go and the fact that you are a moderator and should be moderate, is pretty concerning.

It was a genuine question and my objective was far away to start a new Bill vs Tom debate but more a discussion of which advantage and inconvenient one side (coaching) could have over the other (player) because I found personally that was genuinely interesting.

Bill can only get his players in position to make plays.

I agree but if we talk strictly in term of game planning how much impact has the QB knowing what his old coach like to do and knowing very well most of the defensive player he will face?

Anyone saying one or the other is either out of their minds or biased. There is no edge there. These men sat with each other every week for two decades. They know each other’s tendencies and weaknesses very well. But Brady has to actually make the plays on the field while Bill is on the sidelines.

I am sorry if some people tough that I was asking who will win but my question and what I thought was interesting is: Bill and Tom know each other very well, who of the two can use his knowledge of the other and his tendencies to his advantage better?

I disagree slightly. In retrospect, my question was poorly worded. I think in this is particular instance Brady could have a slight advantage because he knows the tendencies of the defensive players he will face very well which could lead to a slight different game plan versus playing against completely new players. The fact that Bill knows very well Gronk too is important also and I don’t think we will see a Gronk festival in week 4.
