A recent article by Sports Illustrated highlighted a statement by Trevor Lawrence. Some have taken it as a lack of competitiveness and drive to become the best.

“It’s hard to explain that because I want people to know that I’m passionate about what I do and it’s really important to me, but . . . I don’t have this huge chip on my shoulder, that everyone’s out to get me and I’m trying to prove everybody wrong,” he says. “I just don’t have that. I can’t manufacture that. I don’t want to.” Marissa adds, “There’s also more in life than playing football.”

Later Lawrence tried to walk it back a bit on twitter.

"I have a lot of confidence in my work ethic, I love to grind and to chase my goals. You can ask anyone who has been in my life. That being said, I am secure in who I am, and what I believe. I don’t need football to make me feel worthy as a person."

So what do you think. Is Trevor Lawrence just a 'well-adjusted' individual? Or do his comments reveal a lack of drive to become one of the best to ever play the game, the lack of desire to win a Superbowl above all else?

He’s never seemed to have that constant inferiority complex (AKA “chip on the shoulder”) that the greats like Brady and Jordan have. He’s pretty laid back. But that doesn’t mean that he won’t be a great, or even good, QB. They’re not all wired like Brady or Jordan, but many of them still win championships. All that matters is his film study, work ethic, and his ability to make the throws on the field.

I'm with this. Though I think "it will come later" is another option when he goes through rough patches and people start to question the pick. If everyone's been calling you great all your life, yea it's hard to have a chip on your shoulder. Once **** hits the fan and they start trashing you, that's when we'll see what he's really about

I don’t think he really lacks the “fire” so to speak, I think he just looks at the game differently. He’s a guy from day one who was tabbed to be the next great qb so I’m guessing it may be tough to look at the the game the way a Brady or a Russell Wilson would. But when watching him play in college he looks like he definitely loves being out there and competing with his team.

You don’t have to be Bill Romanowski to have “ competitive fire.”
