Letter to Patriots Hall of Fame Selection Committee on Julius Adams

I'm in the midst of a move to a new home right now, but once I get settled in I can attempt to put together a contact list (email, twitter, etc) of those that are on the Pats HoF nominating committee, in order for everyone here to let them know how they feel. That holds true for anyone other than Julius Adams as well of course, being regardless of the person each individual likes/dislikes for induction.
Good luck with the move. I've moved twice in my life. Once last year and once 70 years ago.

Thanks. There's at least a partial list of them on the Pats' site. Everyone, please remember to

I know Ernie Adams advocated for Chuck Fairbanks - who hired Ernie for his first job out of college - and Chuck got nominated once.

Francis, Tatupu and Stingley all belong - but Julius is at the top of my list.

I will post my letter soon.

Thanks.

Thanks! Hopefully the last move we will ever make. Big stuff is done but still a lot of small items to either move or toss from the old place, plus sweep, etc.. Tonight will be the first night in the new place. Yay!

How was it? In our first night I was so exhausted that I went out cold before my head hit the pillow.

Movers were awesome, that was fantastic.

I'm in a condo where the HOA includes internet and cable. The provider sent cable boxes, router and modem to us via FedEx, should have been no problem.

The modem wouldn't connect to the internet so I put in a service call, plus asked if it was possible to move an outlet from one wall to the other.

Person 1 came out and as soon as he walked into the bedroom where I wanted the outlet moved he exclaimed 'wow, you have problems, you have major problems'. Keep in mind that at this point he had literally just walked in.

I then showed him the two other cable outlets and he took a quick look outside. At that point he asked if the operator had advised me that there would be a $59 connection fee per outlet (no, she had not; no such fee should have been applied). He checked all three outlets on his box, and no signal. I explained that the previous owner had done a remodel and perhaps something had happened with that. He surmised that the line from outside used to come in on that west wall, there was no cable outlet opposite that, and that there was no wiring to any of the three outlets.

At this point he explained that the service provider was not responsible for inside wiring. He said he would have to put in a service call for another division that would probably be out in the next 48 hours or so to get a cable/internet line inside the house, but that was as far as they would go.

The kid then advised me that my best plan was to hire an electrician to run cable throughout the walls from there to the other outlets. I asked how they would do that without tearing up the walls and he said that after that either I or someone else could patch the holes, and repaint as needed.

Keep in mind that this is a place that we just bought based on the fact that it was literally just remodeled from top to bottom, new fixtures, fresh paint, etc.

I had previously explained that part of my HOA fees included cable and internet, but he stated the company's obligations ended with getting the cable wire inside the home; everything after that was up to the homeowner.

At this point I just asked the kid, 'oh, so you've seen the contract between Spectrum and our HOA?' He responded that that didn't matter, and it was the same everywhere. I then asked him why it was in my last condo the fees and service were entirely different. The kid said that only had to do with channels I received.

Now I am pretty fed up, so I just said 'okay, what's the next step?' He said he would put in a service call for me for the department that deals with outside lines, etc. I quickly showed him the door.

From previous experience Spectrum is fairly quick with texts to let you know 'we've received you request', 'you should expect a response within x hours', etc. Mid day the following day I had seen nothing. I called, and even though the operator covered for him, I had the distinct impression that he had never put in the new work order. The fact that the time frame for that new work order would be between 6-7 pm confirmed my suspicion in my mind.

The guy that came out the next day was 180 degrees different. Rather than a young kid with not much more than a screwdriver, this guy was obviously very experienced in his trade. About 50 years old and armed with every tool imaginable - picture Rambo or a Navy Seal, except all hardware rather than ammo - and he quietly and politely walked in.

The wiring was indeed a mess, but he figured it all out. He had to work on the can outside and even dig a little bit out there with a shovel, and make sense of a quagmire of wires behind an entertainment type area. He got every outlet up and running without ever once putting a hole or scratch in any wall, without a single heavy sigh or complaint. Even attached a cable box to a wall mount for a tv for me. Expertly ran cable around the wall in the second bedroom, stapled to bottom molding to be as unobtrusive as possible. Even ran it through one end of the closet to the other to keep it out of sight and way. Double checked to make sure TVs were working in universal remote mode, etc.

Get this: when he came in from outside, he even put on those scrubs for shoes, to insure he didn't track in any dirt.

My estimated cost for electrician, drywall, painter, etc from Kid #1: I don't want to know.

My actual cost from the pro that takes pride in his work: zero.

I was more than happy to give that guy a tip. Obviously he will receive an excellent review.

Am I a bad person for the response I will give from the email I received in regards to my thoughts on the service for the first visit?

There is absolutely a recency bias, and the guys who won early on in the Patriots first few title runs are beloved here... its well deserved...

Until I did the Pi graphic, I too was woefully unaware of the quality of some of the early era Patriot teams... So not only was it fun putting it together (still working it lol... 901 players, 1707 digits of pi to date) it was very educational, and really helped me learn the early Patriots history / Patriot players...

A lot of fans, even long term fans don't have that historical perspective... Thats why your On This Day thread is what I consider the best thread on these boards... It would be great to have unfettered access to those old games so people could maybe learn this histories of their teams

What's a Pi graphic?

Thank God for the second guy.

Moving sucks and is exciting at the same time.

The Jewel had one Pro Bowl honor, tying him with inductees Sam Cunningham, Troy Brown and Tedy Bruschi; and which puts him ahead of Kevin Faulk, Rodney Harrison and Steve Grogan, who had none as Pats.

I agree with you on Adams being deserving but don't use the pro bowl as a measuring stick. Adams should have made more than one if there was any validity to the process. Rodney and Thuney among others made All Pro teams while not making the Pro Bowl. It's a farce.

IMO what the Patriots should do is a correction where they vote on the old timers and let in a batch of them. There's just so many players from the two dynasty decades that will win a vote.

For the pro football HOF I believe Kraft has to get a lot more active in promoting his players. You see Jones and Rooney always advocating for their players. Drew Pearson probably belongs in only because Swann and Stallworth got in but with today's high volume guys getting rubber stamped in why shouldn't Morgan and Harold Jackson get in before Pearson?

Not the Bill, Tom, Adam and Gronk aren't getting in when they hang it up but in a decade dominated by the Patriots the Colts have Polian, Dungy, Manning, Harrison and James already in to only Law from the Patriots. Seau and Moss got in mostly for what they did with other teams. Obviously Moss had the one monster year here but still if you polled people I think even Patriots fans would put him as a Viking first.

Seymour and Harrison should already be in. Rodney was as good as Lynch and Dawkins and in the playoffs better than both when it mattered most. Dawkins while not playing poorly didn't shine in that SB whereas Rodney probably should have been the MVP over Branch.

If you're going to let Swann, Pearson and other players like that in for what they did in the postseason more than anything else then McGinist as the all time sack leader should get in as well.

Just make sure that your negative response is applied to the proper person. It sounds like the first kid did more to avoid work than the second guy did to help you out. Glad you got it straightened out.

In our case we went from a house with a gazillion steps and a basement, first floor and second floor, to a small ranch with one step in from the garage or street and one level living. It took me 40 years to get my wife to agree to leave Taxachusetts but I finally wore her down. We both love it.

Give an honest and sincere review of the first guy. Hopefully he'll learn.

Thank God for the second guy.

I remember when I bought my last car I got one of those reviews and found out that because I didn't put excellent across the board (the guy was great and I put a couple of very goods and the rest excellent) and the salesman lost money. I let Lincoln motors know at the time that if they really wanted to get honest input from customers then they shouldn't be punishing the workers unless they get actual negative responses. I stopped doing those since.

The Patriots Hall of Fame
Attn.: Selection Committee
1 Patriot Place
Foxborough, MA 02035-1388

Dear Members:

Julius Adams was selected in the second round of the 1971 NFL draft out of Texas Southern, and thus is an original New England Patriot. He is also a career Patriot, playing 206 games, all with New England.

His on field success includes being named to the UPI All-Rookie team in 1971, a Pro Bowl selection in 1980 and the Jim Lee Hunt Memorial Award. Throughout the Patriots' ascension to competitiveness, which included only one losing season in thirteen years, he conducted himself as a champion on and off the field.

I have personally spoken with several of Julius' teammates, and they all express respect and gratitude for his leadership, mentoring and companionship.

Coach Raymond Berry described Julius Adams as "The consummate teammate...the backbone of our team. Julius went out and did his job professionally and unselfishly and in a masterful way, and was a real force...If you were trying to shape the ideal personality and makeup of a teammate, Julius would be the model.”

Defensive line coach Ed Khayat said, “Julius was a coach’s dream, a teammate’s dream, and an opponent’s worst nightmare. He was like a coach on the field. And he had the utmost respect of his teammates because he was a leader in every sense of the word.”

“Dad’s favorite mementos were the team pictures, not the individual awards or accolades,” said his son Keith.

One of several veterans left from the 1976 team which had the title stolen, Julius rallied the 1985 team to continue all the way to the end.

In a long history full of heroes, for me Julius Adams is the ultimate Patriot.

I implore you all to give Patriots fans the chance to vote for Julius Adams, and give his surviving family and all lifelong Patriots fans the opportunity in 2021 to honor him appropriately.

Sincerely,

[APF]

When does online voting begin?
Last year the voting began April 21, and ended May 8.
2019 was April 18 - May 3, after meeting April 4.
2018 was April 18 - May 14, after meeting on April 4.

In each case the voting commencement coincided with the announcement of the three finalists.

So it begins probably in the next week or so, two weeks at the most.

Not sure of when this year's meeting will be (or was).

Here is the list of the Committee Members. Not sure if this will help as they may have already had their nomination meeting, but here is some contact info. From my experience Chris Price and Mike Reiss are the two most likely to respond, and most open to suggestions - so anybody that cares to lobby for Julius Adams may want to start there. I'll attempt to fill in the blanks when I have more time.

Parcells' popularity seems as entrenched as it is absurd. I would induct Fairbanks, Berry and maybe Holovak way before Parcells.

It's textbook Groupthink. I love Mike Vrabel. As much as Steve Zabel? No. Is there anybody eligible I would nominate over Adams, Fairbanks, Francis, Tatupu or Stingley? No. Not even close.

Scarnecchia is such a no brainer he should be in as soon as he's eligible. He should be in Canton as well.

Last year's meeting was on April 13.

My letter was delivered Thursday morning.

I've commented on social media to some of these guys, and I don't think I did a good job in some cases of restraining my sarcasm and bitterness. Oh well. Maybe I should have written anonymously.
