Path cleared for Jimmy's return? [SF trades for #3 pick]

I'm more intrigued by this because it sets the market for picks in the middle of the round that wannt to move up into the top 5. If we could get the same deal with a team like the Eagles, if one of the big QBs is still on the market when it's Philly's turn I could see them trading down.

I've kinda pencilled in the Eagles as a possible team Bill might target if he's moving up. They already have their big QB, and have quite a few holes on the roster, so a slightly later first and a couple supplementary picks/pieces (in other words, quantity over quality) would probably sound good to them.
Oops

they traded three 1sts and a 3rd, for a 1st in return. How is this that hard?
Yes, technically that's the trade as filed. But the "deal" was about moving up, and the price they paid to do that was the two 1sts and a 3rd. That describes the price of the move-up, which is usually what people want to understand: they moved up at what cost?

I think you missed my point. I would love to see them trade up for that.

My point was that the price for trading up is evidently a lot higher than that.
thank you for correcting my misunderstanding

Would the Pats trade draft capital (2-firsts, 1-second/third) to move up? Only if they know with absolute certainty that the player they want is there. The only player in my view worth that is Mac Jones. BB has intel from Saban and BOB. And Mac is nearly bust proof.

Jimmy G has little guaranteed money. His contract is going to be redone, wherever he winds up. It's in a team's interest and in his interest.
I would think so, SF will ask to re-do it if he stays.. But in reality he's probably played his last game for the 49ers. It's probably between us and the Bears for his services.

Right, he seems bust proof but with maybe a lower ceiling than the others. I haven't seen any evidence he can make throws like Zach Wilson.

edit: so I don't see them offering that much if we can get JG. And with JG we're set for the next 5 years if he can stay reasonably healthy. a big "if" but not out of the question.

Patriots will definitely draft a QB this year. Question is in which round. This is with/without getting JimmyG....

I'm just gonna drop this here... uhhhh.. when was the last time Bill did the (fan/media perceived) obvious during the draft and made everyone happy? Right, never haha. I would just prepare myself if I were some of you for the very real possibility that not only do we not move up for a QB in the 1st, (highly unlikely now) but that we don't draft a QB at all.

Right, or we move up in the draft and drafted the QB no one thinks we should draft. I would be kind of shocked if he did it. That’s the thing about BB. Anything is possible.

True. I could see a trade into low 1st/high 2nd before a move into the top 10 at this point. Kinda hope there is this early run on QB's with the hope that a player they really want but would otherwise have no shot at, drops to 15.

Parsons, Paye or Horn (Pitts IF he falls; which he won’t) Although, I’m no GM by any means; but I wonder if a trade back from 15 could net us a late 1st & extra 2nd...
If the Patriots use a 2nd to get Jimmy G (I hope, I hope), you can sure that they will trade back in the first to get a replacement second. As I said before, the Patriots hate a gap-toothed draft where they have no picks in an early round.

Usually but not always. In 2017 they traded out of the first two rounds and didn’t make a selection until the 83rd pick. But yes usually BB will make sure they have a presence at least in the second round.

The Pats do not have the cap space to trade for Jimmy, he would have to restructure with SF before accepting a trade. JG has a no trade clause, so he could veto. He also has zero reasons to take a pay cut, and frankly would be an idiot to do so, especially given the current circumstance with his team trading up to likely take a QB. I think the most likely scenario for a Jimmy/Pats reunion would be for him to be released and come here on an incentive based deal.. I just don't see that happening, nor do I personally want to run it back with JG.

Other than trading 1st round pick for Cooks (1yr rental), the rest of the draft was a bust.

Round 2, pick 64: Traded to Carolina for Kony Ealy and 72nd pick

Round 3, pick 83: Derek Rivers

Round 3, pick 85: Antonio Garcia

Round 4, pick 131: Deatrich Wise Jr

Round 6, Pick 311: Conor McDermott

Again, nitpicking, I agree, but I didn't say that. I said the guy they're taking costs them 3 1sts and a 3.
I think I understand what you mean now - the 1st they used for the player, two future 1sts and a 3rd.
Except Wise
Wise has been serviceable for the most part. He started off hot his rookie season (a sack in three straight games and was very disruptive), but I'm in the minority that think he's regressed since then. I really liked Rivers and thought he had a bright future, but he just couldn't stay healthy. Same story with Tre' Jackson as he was the superior player to his fellow draftee Shaq Mason, but injuries ruined his career.
