Per Howe - Pats are not shopping Gilmore

We are a better team with Gilmore, our defense has the potential to be really, really good if we keep him and JC.

For sure, but Gilmore is also a free agent next year and we all know Bill likes to get rid of players a year before their contract is up...hopefully they can get Gilmore to sign an extension

No question.

My hope is Gilly agrees to a bunch of incentives which take him to ~$12m and call it a day.

I think Bill loading up on talent across the board this offseason might entice him to stay...hopefully. If they can't agree on an extension, I can see Bill drafting Caleb Farley or Patrick Surtain II with #15.

Gilmore wants to be paid as a top corner, but he is getting older and had injury issues last year, as aging players often do. He wasn't paid as a top CB most of this last contract, but he was given that contract before he had emerged. So what middle ground can be found? Belichick needs to make Gilmore understand that he is not super likely to be able to get that huge deal out on the open market right now anyway. But, Gilmore also knows that if he takes a 2- or 3- year extension now, he might have a hard time getting a big contract at 33/34...

Mike Giardi speculates that Gilmore won’t play at $7m and that the team doesn’t expect him to either.

He’s on the last year of his five-year deal and coming off a season-ending injury. He’ll want some financial security and could possibly hold out until he does.

That’s giardis opinion. We don’t know what they agreement was last year when they advanced him some of this years money. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I don't trust it either.

Pats are taking calls but aren't shopping him. Big difference. They want Gilly for $7m. Who wouldn't? Trading him makes no sense...to them. I think they want to throw a couple of bucks at him but not top dollar.

By feeding Howe they are trying to get Gilly to tell Mrs Gilly to chill. Kinda like Jules telling Pumpkin to tell Honneybunny to chill in the diner.
Is Mrs Gilly a problem? I missed it.

Gilmore has one great run left in him (meaning 2 or 3 years), and even after that, he won't suck and could probably go and be a star safety. The guy belongs in a conversation with TY Law and Revis and anyone else at corner.

He studies the game. He's a BB wet dream.

The speculation that he won't play for $7 is jut that: speculation. He's had hte highest salary cap hit in Patriots' history, which means he was already paid - a lot - for this year.

I do think they bump him up, hopefully extend him. having him takes so much pressure off the rest of that D. I would have been expecting a trade if the Pats thought they had another middling year of rebuild ahead, as Kdo5 noted earlier.

But that's not the case, and Gilly will be a critical piece in any run they might make.

If we are going with Cam and a rookie at QB then we better have a solid OLine
and a great Defense. Strong running game but enough Offensive power to keep them
honest. That being said Please keep Gilmore and JC because that Defense is looking like
20 or less points a game for our opponents. Makes a lot of games winnable

Shes loud. She tweeted something about leaving NE when they put their house for sale but deleted it.

She makes Bianca Wilfork look like a Stepford Wife.

You're all going to soon see what a great team without a QB looks like. It looks like 2019 Tampa Bay. And they were 7-9

Well if we limit Turnovers and don't give our defense the worst field position like our own 30 yard line then I think we will be way better. 10 wins maybe

At least you can hope.

After investing all this money on the d, makes more sense to keep Gilmore . We’ve seen the pass d when he missed games and the domino effect it had. Jcj is weak as a #1 , and the depth at cb is suddenly pretty thin when he’s out of the picture. I wouldn’t move him without a pretty solid plan b in place. The only thing I’d consider at this point is if it’s a deal for a Wilson or Watson type in return.

It's an interesting decision for him. Say he is offered a 2 year extention at market value, he would make, let's say $8 million more by bumping this year's pay. Would he make up that $8 million by playing at $7 million and being a free agent at 31 years old (and get a good contract from SOME team that would give him 4-5 years at premium $), or would he be better off getting that $8 million now and negotiate a contract at 33 for MUCH less $/year.

This assumes he would get paid the same during '22 and '23 seasons (either with the pats extention or with a new contact on another team).

An increase in pay for 2021 plus a 1-2 year extention would be a big win for the pats IMO.

Just do it.
Get it done.

Better team with Gilmore

Way to go, Bill

there is no need to move him because they don't need the cap space.

Doesn't mean they won't trade him as he wants to be paid like a top CB. In fact, some of the guys that are getting paid way more than him is flat out disrespectful which I'm blaming Bill for as he signed the contract 4 years ago.

If this is disrespect I don't know what to say:
