PFF is what it is.......but they grade out Karras and Andrews almost identically, within two points i think......andrews overall is a 67, karras is in the 65 range....

but i think they will be drafting a center, and i think there's a few good ones to be had in later rounds

I think there's a lot of intangibles with Andrews that are hard to quantify. It's why he seems to be physically suboptimal, but the line just plays so much better when he's out there. Still, the dropoff from Andrews to Karras isn't a freefall. And Karras at that price doesn't have to be the starter. If we draft and start a rookie, Karras can back up all three interior line positions.

I can live with that as a last resort. Be nice to upgrade in which case he’s GREATT depth on the interior since I believe he fills in at guard too. But still hope we’re not investing big money or a high pick at the position at this point, rather focus on qb\ lb now and we’re all but set.

In theory, we shouldn't have to spend a high pick. I think Bryan Stork was our highest drafted of the recent starting centers, and he was a 4th rounder. Koppen was 5th, Andrews undrafted, Wendell I can't remember but he was high as well I believe. They seem to be able to find those guys in the later rounds.

Pats OL changes

LG Joe Thuney 6’5 308 to LG Michael Onwenu 6’3 350

C David Andrews 6’3 300 to C Ted Karras 6’4 305

RT Michael Onwenu 6’3 350 to RT Trent Brown 6’8 380

Throw in Izzo & Asiasi to Henry & Jonnu as well.

Correct, all were fantastic for us too albeit stork only lasted 1 good year

If we sign no more free agent centers (other than Ferentz), then we will almost certainly draft a center, who might be ready to start this year, or next.

Really like Quinn Meinerz or Josh Meyers
I like them both, but Meyers from OSU would SEEM to have a much shorter learning curve than D3 guy Meinerz. OSU was mostly in shotgun and IIRC Meyers was steady in his snaps and solid on both interior run and pass blocking. Not a super athlete to pull with, but seems a perfect early 3rd day pick, round 4 I'd guess.

I hope they ask any center they draft whether he intends to play pro football.

Adding 77 lbs of beef to the OL, plus two competent blockers at TE, plus rumors of adding running backs, plus Cam as the (to this point) starting QB... They're going to run the ball 7000 times this year.

Strong OL and running game also helps rookie QBs. . . .

I'll be pretty worried if we don't draft some competition for him. He shouldn't be your plan A.

BB went to his 1991 notes

Add 10lb to Karras (looks bigger and MIA have him at 314). Take them from Brown after he hits foxboro gyms & hills..

Karras is a little bigger than Andrews, not a huge fan of either and as has been mentioned, would be surprised if we didn't draft a Center high in the draft....been hearing it's a very deep O-Line class including Centers.

Excerpt from Kyed:

While losing Andrews stings, Karras is a great consolation prize for the Patriots, who have the cap space to continue filling in holes along their starting offensive and defensive units. While the Patriots lost some continuity on their offensive line, it helps that they’re bringing back players with familiarity in the system with Brown and Karras.
