Hey New England Patriots,

Do you know what happens when you add a couple high quality TEs and two more Wrs to an offense that already has a quality OLine and running game? Do you know what happens?...

Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots,

IMO it'd take more balls to deal with the negative PR of trading Deshaun Watson, not to mention the wreckage to the team by (a) not having Watson (b) absorbing a $22M hit to the cap when they are already over the cap. The Easterby/Caserio regime would be meet the same fate as the BoB regime did in a small number of weeks if not months.

What happens if HOU trades him?

What happens if he holds out?

I know he says it's not about money, but sooner or later it will be.

Ref: Why Deshaun Watson is unhappy with Texans, and what comes next
That must be old since Texans are $3M over the cap now and they've had no problem signing players. They've been the 3rd most active team. They are making contingencies for moving on from him. In addition, they've already lost the public's goodwill.

I used to think it was dumb to spend a lot in free agency, but then the 2015 Broncos and 2020 Bucs happened. It turns out you can build a team multiple ways.
The problem with building heavily on free agency is that the fact you have to (and can) sign many expensive players means you don’t have many already.
The laughingstock big spenders were the teams in the vicious cycle of making bad big money decisions, continuing to stink, then getting rid of that crew and missing on a whole new crew. See Jete, NJ

The other mistake is paying a player past his prime based upon his prime then having him through his decline

This is hilarious we’re the off season champs and all we ever did was make fun of other teams who celebrated and were happy with signings in May. My have the tables turned
perfect combo of having cap space, less competition from other teams due to the overall cap limit coming down , places to fill holes and possibly thinking of the balooning cap space in the coming yrs with the new tv deal.

LOL, SOFJ!

I would think SF, out of conference makes the most sense. Would Jimmy want to go to Houston? Hell no. It's a sh*thole.

My guess is Belichick, if the Pats are involved at all, is looking to shepherd Watson away from the AFC East and to the 49ers freeing Garappolo to be traded to the Pats. I’d happily be wrong if they were in it to actually get Watson.

I’m not saying this would be central to any trade(s). That would be high draft picks and lots of them. But, no one, other than Bill, has a more thorough knowledge of the Patriots roster than Nick Caserio. Perhaps, he still holds some of the young players he and Bill selected in higher regard than most of us do. Players like N’Keal Harry, JoeJuan Williams, Chase Winovich, Yodny Cajuste and Jarrett Stidham who are expendable to the Patriots after the acquisitions of the last couple of days might be still viewed as valuable by Caserio. I would think it would be easier to sell the trade to the Houston fan base if some actual players were involved as well as the draft picks.

I actually think the Watson contract is excellent. Extremely low cap his this year. I don’t think $39M in a few years is too bad for a top shelf QB since the cap should be that much larger by then. That’s how Bill is structuring these deals, anyway.

Bills just signed Sanders...

They didn’t have Belichick?

Please anyone who has a friend who is a Bears fan let’s check on them?

I have that game circled against Tampa in foxborough. I sure as hell want Brady to succeed but I also want to beat him probably the only time he will ever play against the patriots

Nothing will sell the fan base on that. No matter what the Pats give up, the Texans fans will think they could have gotten more from someone else.

It would be career suicide for Caserio.

The Dolphins would have the best offer, as they have a young promising QB, the #3 pick this year. That's a much better starting offer than anything the Pats can offer.

I think my preference is that Watson and Wilson aren't traded even to the Patriots. I think the second one of those guys shoots their way out of town, it could create a domino effect where all the top players in the league who aren't happy with their situation shoot their way out of town and the NFL turns into the NBA.

I think the Watson situation is warranted enough all things considered.

But I agree on Russell Wilson.
