Player Signing Now Hunter Henry signs with New England:

Agreed! Bill has always tried to seek out value by zigging when other teams zagged. This time that means a free agent spending spree.
A free agent spending spree at a time when the cap went down, everyone else is hard against the cap and competition for premium FAs is at an all time low.

In a couple years these contracts may be bargains due to the tv deal and the fact that it will at least be $20million higher due to no covid bringing down the cap this year

Back to 2010 we go! Lol

Maybe. I wonder what the plans are with this offense.

Cam can’t be QB1 in an offense like that can he?

They went 7-9 with nothing but borderline JAGs at TE and an ageing and banged up Jules at WR Everywhere (minus Harris and Meyers). They ran pretty effectively all damn season, despite Cam's seeming inability to throw the ball.

They just added some serious firepower at TE. Legitimate playmakers. They will absolutely feast if teams are forced to stack the box, which we shoukd be able to dictate. Legitimate WRs? Agholar is old, sure. But he's just what this offensr needs. The middle and short parts of the field will be getting plenty of attention. He'll see single coverage plenty, and had the tools to win those match-ups.

This offense may not be high-flying, but they will slow the game down and on paper have no massive holes, outside qb...where they have the unique physical run threat-I expect more RPO's. Think Balt the last few years.

The defense? My god. Where's the BB OJ pic when you need it?
Fixed that for ya

I have been calling for the Pats to sign two starting quality TEs, but I thought they would go with an older TE who could be a pass catcher on certain downs like Kyle Rudolph or Jared Cook. I never thought that they would get the arguably two best TEs in free agency.

This says that Newton was just insurance. Either they are going to move up to get a Trey Lance or Mac Jones or someone else or intent on trading for Jimmy Garoppolo. No way are they just going into the season with Cam as the anointed QB.
It's like buying a sports car but putting a 4 cylinder engine in it

This is not the Patriot Way. This is what bad teams do.

Right? Did we finally win the offseason after 20 years? Most posters here would make fun of another team doing this.

BUT, I'm really excited to see how it works!!

You're missing the point. I was responding to @luuked on what the media narrative will be.

With all due respect, the Pats have never had this much salary cap space before, unless I'm mistaken.

If there is a battle for TE3 I would prefer Asiasi to Lacosse but I am sure the coaches will have a fair idea on that already

Kraft deserves some credit. Not every owner would give the go ahead on this level of spending.
Lots of owners let their GMs spend to the cap.

Gronk would still be the best TE on the team by a not insignificant amount if he was here.

Not sold yet that we are a playoff team. Thankfully there is more to come including the draft and showing us the plan at QB.

Yep by a fair amount.

Oops, sorry about the point missing. Although there's still some truth in my response.
I think we all are excited to see what they look like on the field.

They both do everything at a high level (when healthy: Henry)
