Odds to be Pats week 1 QB

Yes, Brady does have a huge one, for sure.

But tell me, do you really think BB was enjoying? Brady winning a SB without him?
Was probably happy for him personally but it's silly to think this doesn't tweak Bill professionally. I have no doubt he is motivated now to get one without him.

Said it for months that Brady winning the SB would be the best thing that could happen to the Patriots right now.

I do not agree.
For me he is burning inside. He is furious. All the players, like Dola, saying Patriots' way my ass, this was Brady's way.
Man, he is having nightmares, I can assure you.

Best thing that could happen? Do you think GOAT QBs grow on trees? Do you think Mariota take this team to the promised land? Cam? Oh my god, don't be silly.

And if so - how would that not be good for the Patriots rebuild if he feels that way? No question at all he is motivated to make his team better and quickly. It means don't expect any more pet projects or experimenting with the likes of Nkeal Harry. Which is fine by me.

Bill rolled the dice without Brady and he will get the shot at rebuilding the team that he wanted. Looking forward to seeing what happens. I know for sure he will not be given as much time as he wants to do that.

He can have all the motivation he can get, but unless he finds a very good QB, he won't do **** with this team.

That is the point I can't understand all of you. He could not have rolled the dice. Brady gave us 20 years, he deserved to ride until the end here.

So, ball on BB's court right now. Can he deliver? I know he can't. And hopefully Brady can add more to his legacy, 2 more SBs would be delightful.

I agree with that about the QB. I'm hopeful we can see a really good football team out of this rebuild. Bill has 3 years tops to build a contender. The Buffalo Bills were us right now 3 years ago and they built an AFC power in that time so no reason why we can't do it too. Bill will not get more time than that.

Brady and his team are in great shape to repeat in the meantime.

Do you want an example?
Tampa without Tom.

Am I right here?

My grudge is about Brady leaving the way he left.
After 20 years, delivering 6 SBs, to be treated the way he was, it is inexcusable.
Spineless Kraft should have done everything so Brady could ride here until his sunset.

So, it is not funny at all.
I want BB and Kraft to be miserable. I want Brady to win 2 more SBs with TB before retiring.
Yes, I want, and I am entitled to have my opinion.
As I'm entitled to mine.

And mine is that it just got a little funnier.

A 7-9 team with 8 opt outs coming back, and the IR, and more than $60M in cap money can indeed compete without a "very good quarterback". Sign Mariota, Trubisky, or Mischew for a 2021 cap hit of say $10M, and $50+M of cap money in this market will have us competing for a playoff for 2021-2023. The open question is whether we become competitive for the SB by drafting a top QB in 2021 or 2022.

Do not agree.

Embrace for another losing season.

What a sad statement for a football fan & Pats fan.

Philadelphia made easy playoffs w WENTZ and won SB vs Brady w FOLES (SB MVP).
Jaguars were one iffy ref decision away from making the SB w BORTLES vs Brady.
Tennessee made AFCCG game w TANNEHILL who nobody considered solid QB at the time, was a backup until W7.
Buffalo made AFCCG game w ALLEN who was considered a bust not too long ago.
And this is just the last 4 years.
CAM was MVP in 2015 and felt unstoppable; Denver beat Carolina w shadow PEYTON* (declining hard 2015* benched for OSWEILER* mid season)
etc etc

QB is important but football is about TEAM & strategy. There are many ways & circumstances to win.
Go read BB's favourite book - The Art of War - just 60 pages. Might cheer you up..

60-80M can bring lots of good veteran players. No reason not to be at least a little bit excited for the 2021 Pats TEAM.

Just ask the Packers how they feel about their dynasties and all the rings they got with 30 years of Farve, Rodgers. Or the Saints with Brees (before he started to fall apart).

People refusing to believe football is a true team game remains one of the biggest mysteries for me. It is as if ST, defense and coaching doesn't exist or is of some kind of lower priority then the highlight machinery that is the offense.

What are you smoking? His numbers are good? 31st in yards with 2,055. 16 TD with 8 INT and a QBR rating of 61.3 You really do have to be smoking something great to call those numbers good.
None of the truly available QBs listed are any good. Prescot, Ben, Watson, Jimmy and Ryan aren't available, and they're the only good ones on the list. We're basically f*cked.

Get a half decent cheap body to serve as bridge, draft a QB in 1st (move up if you have to), and do your best till next year when you go with the rook. A hope and a prayer he's like Herbert or Burrows.

Why wait until next year to start with a rookie?

I can't see the name Blake Bortles without thinking of that guy from "The Good Place."

Also, why am I not on this list? I'm only 58.

I'll take this guy over Cam

Trying to get this thread back on track while stating that I could give a damn whether Bill was happy for Tom or not.

The most accomplished and credentialed QB available in FA has yet to be mentioned, and despite my freely admitted prejudice against redheads, the best veteran option is Andy Dalton.

He actually fits the Pats offense and was good enough to QB teams coached by Marvin Lewis into the playoffs more than once. After last year’s Dallas disaster, he should not cost that much and would likely be happy to find himself in a situation where he just has an opportunity to compete to be the starter.

If I was the Pats brain trust, once free agency begins, I’d sign Dalton (on condition he checks out concussion wise after that vicious cheap shot in the Washington game), and proceed to put together the 2017 Bengals by signing AJ Green as my outside receiver and Tyler Eifert to compete with the 2020 draftees and perhaps a 2022 draftee at TE.

I’d use the bulk of my cap space on shoring up my defensive front 6 and extending Gilmore and Jackson.

Then, after the first day of the draft and Atlanta has drafted their QB of the future, Kyle Shanahan will make his move to acquire the QB he doesn’t blame for a SB 4th quarter loss caused by Shanahan being too arrogant to just run the ball to protect his lead and acquire Matt Ryan from the Falcons which will lead SF to release Jimmy Garappolo.

Then, Bill will bring his golden boy home. Garappolo will win the job because he knows the offense, but the Pats will have Dalton to push him and replace him if/when Garappolo gets injured.

Either way....we have to admit that it is kinda exciting to NOT know who the QB is gonna be. Last year around this time, I was PRAYING to God that Brady wouldn't walk.....then in late March...I was all in on Stidham....although I kinda liked Jordan Love in the draft.....then in July...I was all in on Cam....then in December...I was back onto the Stidham bandwagon....since then...my QB flavor of the day changes daily...LOL.

Fun times.....
Do you also like to be tied to the bed and beaten? Lol

I gotta say it again, look at the last 21 Superbowls. Really, take a look.

Look at the QBs not named Brady. Half (or more, depending on how you rate Eli and Kurt Warner) are nowhere near HoFamers.

Brady has elevated the QB-need factor many times over.
You're going back way too far. Those days are gone. Different NFL. In last 13 SB the only QBs that don't make HOF are Eli (?), Flacco & Foles. All 3 were clutch AF in the playoffs. Flacco: 124 rating. Eli: 104 rating. Foles: 106 rating.

Average winning score in those 13 SBs was 30 points (even w/ only 13 in SB 53).

All other 10 QBs are HOFers. Granted Brady is in 4 of them but that's what it takes. Plus, you're not getting to the SB w/o going thru KC and a shootout w/ Mahomes. Mariota types ain't gonna cut it.

Draft defense. Run the ball. Win every game 16 to 10. LFG
This is the way.

Bill is known for having one of the greatest defensive minds. Focus on his strength. Build a top 5 defense. He's not a QB whisperer. He lucked out with Brady.

Pick up a QB in the top 10 and a $5M apy guy to get us to '22 until the kid is groomed, then release the Kraken and go for it all then.

Overspending for an avg guy that may get you 2 more victories doesn't do jack but get you a worse draft position in '22.
