Curran: Patriots will be "extremely and uncharacteristically" aggressive in Free Agency

I agree. Center is important for blocking assignment calls but we've repeatedly found good centers with later round picks. Interior linemen in general shouldn't be eating up a lot of salary cap space. It doesn't make strategic sense from an allocation perspective. This is the same reason why taking one of our best players Onwenu, any suggestion to move him to LG is ridiculous. Keep Onwenu at RT because Herron is not a starting caliber player. See if Thuney or Andrews will take a fair (not overpay) price to play center, and then fill LG and RG with cheap players off FA or draft. Mason, Thuney, Andrews, it doesn't make sense to sink big money into interior OLine.
I've touted Alabama C/G Landon ****erson before but I believe he'd be a good fit.

Mason is due $7 million next season. There’s zero reason to freak out about his contract.

Ok. But out of the 3 interior linemen I'd only pay 1 and it should ideally be at the center position. I don't think we ever won a ring by loading up on multiple expensive interior linemen. It's not smart resource allocation with a limited salary cap.

This is a contract that demands restructuring...Thuney's the best OLman on the team and is simply too valuable to lose...

The Pats are going to have tons of cap space and a lot of teams are going to be way over the cap and forced to cut players. Some teams are going to have to cut good players with bloated contracts just to get under the cap. This year's free agency has the potential to be extremely and uncharacteristically deep with talent.

I would think tight end and wide receiver are first order of business (besides quarterback).

Ugh

ill add penetrating D line as well
As depth on O line
Hightower coming back would he but if he retires a veteran leader linebacker.
The Rooks could of benefited tremendously from Hightower’s lead.
Losing Van Noy and Collins showed up in the worst spots.
We need Hightower back for this defense to take the next step.
Losing Gilmore sucks but business is business.
I’m convinced Thuney, Wise, Cam, Hoyer, Cannon, White won’t be on the team.
Gilmore will be traded, JC Jackson the verdict is out but I would guess he is retained then extended. High, Chung, bring big leadership and football knowledge to the team.
Number 1 order of business is to be more explosive on offense.
You can accomplish this with completely rebuilding the Receiver chart, adding a veteran tight end, fixing QB.
Watson would add so much explosion to this team as could Mariota, Lance, Wilson, Fields.
Jimmy G would add speed just because how fast he could let go of the ball.
I feel like targeting Will Fuller who has a background in this system is the smartest move.
Then go get Kenny Golladay who is just scratching his surface.
If you line up Golladay, Fuller, Edelman, Byrd, Meyers, Harry
This is a completely different offense.
The Deshaun Watson pipe dream.

3 1sts Gilmore, Michel, for Watson.
I would also entertain this same trade for Wilson or Lance.

Yeah, right.

They passed on Diggs, and they had 2 times to get Emmanuel Sanders....

BillB's idea of "aggressive" is the sign a 3rd or 4th tier WR and hope they will shine.

with Brady gone, those days are over.....I hope......

I hope bill realizes from this past year, thats what you get when you go bargain shopping when you dont have the GOAT QB to make the guys around him better.

He’s like Herpes he keeps flaring up
In all Seriousness congrats on a decent career which would of been great value for a 5th thru undrafted rookie.
I think we would all appreciate him more if he was wasn’t severely overdrafted.
It’s a testament to him that teams keep valuing him for the back end of their roster and he’s able to make a livelihood out of doing what he loves.
And I’m sure that he’s much more naturally gifted dedicated and knowledgeable
In than us.
Forever he will be the player we love to hate and whip on.
Not the mention the player that caused Mel Kiper to feverishly google who the hell is Jordan Richards.
Salute

I dont know about diggs but for sanders , it was also about denver not wanting to trade within the conference and to NE.

2. Rare spot at 15: Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer recently made a point that has direct relevance to the Patriots. "When you look at the draft, and you build a board, there's a certain level of player that stops at 16, 17 or 18," he said.

Fitterer spent 20 years with the Seattle Seahawks, who similar to the Patriots have been picking near the bottom of the first round and thus have been more inclined to trade back to collect assets.

That's why the Patriots' 2021 NFL draft position, at No. 15, is significant. In Belichick's 20 years as coach, it's the fourth highest the team has picked -- after No. 6 in 2001 (Richard Seymour), No. 12 in 2003 (Ty Warren) and No. 10 in 2008 (Jerod Mayo).

This is one of their best opportunities to get a true blue-chip player, regardless of position.

3. QB or not QB: ESPN draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay have released their initial mock drafts, and both have slotted quarterbacks to the Patriots at No. 15, with Kiper projecting Alabama's Mac Jones as a fit. It's one of the Patriots' biggest needs, but to Fitterer's point, the Patriots would have to be convinced they aren't reaching to fill it as they would risk losing a blue-chip player at a different spot. That's why, at this point, I lean against the quarterback at No. 15.

What’s Belichick doing missing out on this aggressive move?

F***, i wanted that guy....

to come nowhere near New England.

Donkeys & Pats had already made several trades up to that point in time.
