You can communicate the same concept by saying, "people lying to gain something they want, to play the victim, happens all the time".

Why would I do that when the story is specifically about a woman making allegations about her rich, soon to be ex husband? That would be weirdly and pointlessly vague. Women are statistically nearly three times more like to murder their own children then men. Child molesters and sex criminals are mostly men. Some crimes and bad behaviors are gender slanted. How is it a bad to acknowledge reality? If men were able to use their privilege to victimize and/or rob their partner in family and divorce courts it would be appropriate to leave gender out of this. But that's not what is happening. This behavior is overwhelmingly being exhibited by women.
