Money is not an issue, the Pats have tons of cap space. I would keep both.

Speaking to the actual survey question, a G can be mediocre on half the plays and not impact the outcome of the play. The C, not so much.
So, regardless of their individual capability, the C position has an advantage in this question before it is answered.

Andrews is more valuable for me for the following reasons:

a.) Thuney is more expensive.
b.) We have options at LG with other guys.
c.) When Andrews was out for 2019...it took a while for Karras to get up to speed.

If we are not talking about money I would vote for Andrews. I am not sure but probably BB claimed Center position was the most difficult position to learn and play just behind QB. IMO guards are more replaceable than centers.

We might end up re-signing both players. However, if I could chose one, it is clear to sign a long-term contract with Andrews. He will cost much less, and he will be much more difficult to replace. We have 2 qualified OG's without Thuney. We have no centers without Andrews.

Andrews has been a 4 time captain so his leadership skills can't be overlooked. His health is a risk compared to Thuney. However I feel too may ex-Pats like the Texans, Dolphins and Giants will make offers for Thuney we shouldn't match.

Thuney is much better, Andrews is much cheaper and a better value. If you take the difference in cost and use it to add another player, that player + Andrews are better than Thuney.

I see absolutely no reason to not re-sign Thuney. I would re-sign both. We have so much cap space with more likely on the way after some guys retire. Now is the time to load up in free agency, especially with a suppressed market

A few key point to remember:
- We are currently looking at $60mil in cap space with the potential for around $90mil with some trades/retirements
- We likely won’t be paying top of the market money to a QB any time soon
- While we might be paying big money to our interior OL, our tackles are pretty affordable for the next few years
- The NFL media rights deals are all up in the next two years or so, so we will likely see a big jump in the cap, even when spreading out the hit this season from Covid. So we can afford to backload long term deals
- If we let Thuney walk we will most likely NOT receive any compensation. With the amount of cap space we have we will almost certainly bring in some sort of high priced free agent to cancel out losing Thuney.

I think Belichick will operate very differently this off season because we have never been in this position before. We just had a re-set year and now is the time to take advantage.

I was waiting for someone to say ... "Why don't we just draft a C for cheap money"? ****erson is a dog with a little versatility but Linderbaum is a great fit here along with a few others.

Good post and agreed. This off-season is unlike any we've ever seen so Bill won't be operating under normal circumstances. I expect him to be more aggressive in FA, with our players and possibly in the draft as well. I don't think this is a "let things come to us" off-season. Too many holes, too much uncertainty, draft picks and money to just kick back wait for things to fall into place.

If I measure this question based not just on how good the player is, but also how much they do for the OL and team as a whole against what they cost, Andrews was the better value. That's probably still true next year but we'll see what the contracts look like.

One thing to note: not only do the Patriots have the third-most cap space in 2021, they have the second most in 2022, as well, with about $170M and 24 players signed. They have room to be creative with contracts if they need to be.

[Fun fact: the median team, as of today, has 24 players signed for 2022.]

I'd love to see Onwenu take over at LG (he seemed to prove himself all over the line). And IF Wynn can last a season and get established at LT, and maybe Herron is the future of tackle (to plug in at RT). Assuming Mason stays at RG. Then paying Andrews to lock it all down at C would be a great. Even consider Eluemunor sticking as an important rotational guy. If Cajuste gets out of the tub, it's a bouns.
I'd love to keep Thuney, but our cap space will go quickly once we start paying for a legit QB, WR, DE, TE... I think we have the OL pieces to still be really solid.

Agree with a & c...but not b, unless moving Wynn to LG is one of those options...Then we'll need a LT...

We do Not have a qualified LG in the building besides Wynn...But if Wynn's moved there then we wouldn't have a qualified LT in the building...

Agreed...he should be able to take snaps there without getting anyone killed, but I don't think he's a starter on a Contender...It's him or Korey Cunningham for that backup LG/LT role...Elmanure should be re-signed for cheap as the backup RG/RT in competition with Yawndy Cachoo...
If both Thuney & Andrews are re-signed as well, then all we'll be really missing is Backup Center.

yeah at least he will provide solid depth for a 6rd dude. i think he did fine this season as a rookie. Looked better than JE at LT

I agree with Wilfork if we can't sign him outright we should consider the tag. We will be signing FAs and any comp.for Tuney will be lost. Take whatever we can get,3rd or better, and if we have no takers we keep him and perhaps someone comes callin at the trade deadline. Even if we have to pay the tag money we will have a terrific player.
