"Every Little Thing Gonna Be Alright"

I can't reply in the Post-Game thread because of the overwhelming tide of negativity. There are calls for BB to step down as GM or to revamp scouting or to do something different than what he's done over the last 20 years.

Folks, this is a transition. We've seen this before.

2005. 2010. & now 2020.
Hmmmm.... now were there any elements present in the 2005 and 2010 teams that are not present in the 2020 team..?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm......................

The most important position in sports wasn't in flux. Brady allowed Bill to rebuild on the fly. Now Bill is going to change his strategy on how he builds a team. In all likelihood the Chris Hogan's and Brandon Lafell's of the world aren't going to cut it anymore. He also won't get higher end players (Moss, AB, Dillon) all happy to come here and take a little less for a chance at a ring. He is going to need to spend more on free agents and also draft significantly better. People are just assuming because it's Bill he can do it but he hasn't really done it before.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about something else. I did write this in my first post: "Only difference between 2005 & 2010 & 2020 is Tom Brady."

Before people get the wrong idea. I do not expect a multi-year Super Bowl run. Only way for any coach to do that is with a QB like Tom Brady.

However, lesser QBs have won Super Bowls here and there, and that's what I'm hoping for the Patriots.

BB has shown he is quick to revamp a team.

Cleveland in the early 1990s. He helped revamp the Patriots D in 96. Patriots in 2001.

His track record has always been quick turnarounds no matter the QB.

That doesn't mean the team becomes an annual Super Bowl contender. Anyone expecting that is maybe really disappointed right now. So, call me the King of Rationalizations, but maybe it's because I was not delusional in the first place!

I see you didn't even read my post. Jeez.
Yes I stopped at the absurd comment likening 2005 and 2010 to the present day and how we "have seen this before".

This revamp is not even remotely like those. To make the comparison just doesn't work.

I am not saying it can't happen by any means but it is something I can't help but think about that his whole philosophy will need to change in regards to team building.

You stopped at the part where I said we don't have Tom Brady and then you criticized me for not noting we don't have Tom Brady. Well, OK.

Love your positivity and love the post!!!! There are plenty of good things we have going forward. I will try and keep this thread filled with positivity...could be difficult. lol, but if I have to start banning posters from this thread, I will.
So if I, or anyone else, disagrees with the idea that "every little thing gonna be alright" then we will be banned? That's extreme.

Depends on what you mean by philosphy. He constantly adapts by changing the kids of players he's looking for. Frequently, he's ahead of other teams when it comes to the changing styles in the game. He has loaded up on the back 5 of the D for instance, and it has paid dividends. If he's been slow on anything, it's been on grabbing faster and lighter LBs and big safeties. But that has finally changed with the drafting of Uche and Dugger. I see this is going to be the trend. So he adapts.

I still believe his method of roster evaluation and management is the right one.

It's hard to stay positive after watching that game last night. We were bad in pretty much every phase of the game.

I think the Pats are in excellent position to turn it around next year (tons of cap space where a lot of teams are going to have to cut good players just to get under the cap). But the ability to turn things around are now exponentially tougher than in the past without Brady. Brady could cover for a lot of personnel mistakes and areas of deficiency that this team had. I think Belichick can turn this thing around and make the Pats a Super Bowl contender as soon as 2021, but he has a lot more work to do this time.

This year was just the perfect storm for a poor season. Horrible cap condition, brutal schedule, new qb, covid opt outs and practices missed in season, Edelman out basically all year. The fact they even won 6 games is a miracle.

Next year we have cap space , higher draft position, an easier schedule, and hopefully no more covid affect on games or practices missed. We’ll hopefully have a preseason which on a bb coached team seems pretty important. That alone should put us above .500 , better if we really hit on some draft picks and fa. Ill only panic if its 2022 and were not contending a third straight year.

I'm a glass half full fan......I look at what was missing to see what could have been for this year and hopefully what the team will look like next year. I accept that Cam is not the answer......Stidman should start the Jet's game and see how he looks. Give him this week to practice with the ones.....BB has to either draft a QB in first round or sign best avail FA.......

The Pats were missing key pieces this season due to Covid opt outs or injuries.......Burkhead,Edelman, Harris and Michel never got a full season in......Thankfully the RB position looks solid......Taylor being a pleasant surprise in that group.

Key Opt Outs - Hightower, Chung, Cannon, Bolden, should all return for next season.......

BB has to address: QB, TE, WR, and OT on Offense and DL, LB on Defense......assuming Hightower and Chung return next season.....and Thuney gets signed......That is pretty solid base to start with...Grab a decent QB or Stid develops (??) they should be ok.......at least 2 games lost this year that should have been in the win column with good QB/Coaching decisions......poor player discipline at key times along with missed very makeable kicks all contributed to this losing season.......

Look forward to this offseason moves and signings and the Draft......April cannot come soon enough...

Go Pats !

I honestly feel it is. 2 - 3 year rebuild and we need to have the core of defense and offense set. For now we have the Offensive line and part of secondary set. The rest are gaping holes. We might have luck if the cap reduces to 175 or lesser and we hit a jackpot in draft.

I want to be positive but with the superior talent on every other team and our gaping needs nit sure how coaching alone can make up for it. Maybe all that we need is a qb game manager, a wr 1 and TE 1 and we are all set. But that assumes the qb to have a drastic improvement and defense to also take a giant leap.. the defense has also regressed over the second half..

Let's hope for home run with qb, te and wr in free agency and all defensive talent in draft. Go pats !

Once Bill decided to address the cap situation in such a drastic way it was obvious to me that the team was going to struggle in 2020. No team can lose instrumental players like Brady, Collins, Van Noy, Shelton to FA then lose Hightower, Chung and Cannon to Covid and not expect a big drop off. Plus they lost depth pieces like Develin, Vitale, LaCosse, Roberts and Karras which hurt. I hated watching them struggle so much but I do believe that the purge was in the best long term interests of the team. Keeping Brady and a couple of the FA's would have required some fancy cap contortions and I am not sure it would have resulted in much more than a WC berth so I am reluctantly glad that they did what they did.

For 2021 BB absolutely needs to find a solution at QB. I would be fine with a Jimmy G type that you can plug and play for the next few years while developing a draft pick.

BB has always done a great job finding underperforming middle class players like Vrabel Van Noy, T. Brown, Branch and eventually turning them into rich men and he'll need to hit on some gems on the cheap this offseason. Hopefully fill gaps at DE, NT, LB and TE.

Sign a stud WR and/or TE with some of the cap space.

If they can hit on the draft and the players from 2019 and 2020 can develop they can be back in the thick of things quicker. Halfway through last season the Dolphins looked like an absolute disaster but because they had a ton of cap space they are now a win away from the playoffs so things can change pretty quickly.

If they can come out of 2021 with a QB of the future and things heading in the right direction I will be pleased even if they fail to make the playoffs again.

This is where I disagree. I think he has been slow to adapt to the way the league is changing and I think it shows with the state of the roster. The game is basketball on grass and I still think he looks at it the way it was in 2001. The league is all about the vertical passing game. Speedy receivers on the outside, a slot guy underneath, and a pass catching TE. We all know Travis Kelce cant block in the least bit but he has something like 1400 yards this year but Bill is still looking for a Gronk type TE who can block and catch and Gronk's don't grow on trees. At this point you at TE you get a blocker or a pass catcher and we need pass catchers. On the flip side I don’t think he is drafting linebackers that can cover these basketball players on the other side. Uche looks to at least have the athleticism and hopefully Bill starts getting more athletic guys but the Bentley's and Hightower's of the world can't cover these shifty backs out of the backfield of these receiving TEs.

Basically we need to draft athletes. This roster needs speed ASAP. We can't pass on guys like Metcalf and Deebo and take plodders like Harry. We need a threat to take the top off the defense.
