Content Post N'Keal Harry (lack of) Progress Report

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

And DB picks too.
Captain, Captain, Captain...you know we have one of the top secondaries in the league if not the best...no need for us to go there this draft..I have not given up on J Williams yet, I think he is going to be real good and next year we get the ageless Patrick Chung back.

What about Thuney, Mason, JC, Jake Bailey, Wino, Butler, Dugger, Gunner, Andrews, Uche, Wynne, Myers, Jonathan Jones..
The comment was regarding the last two drafts so Thuney, Wynn, Mason, Butler, Andrews, JC and JJ don't apply. Bailey's a nice player, but really? There is nothing special about Dugger. He has one pass breakup in 15 games and people are throwing a party. He's shown nothing that he could be a presence/key pience in the secondary. Winovich has regressed badly. Uche has shown flashes, but Winovich showed more promise last year. Gunner is a nice guy for a 4th WR/punt returner. Myers wasn't a draft pick. Again, these guys are complementary, not guys you build around.
two front 7 players
It needs to get blown up. Guy is the only one that could be a starter, but he should not be headlining your D-line. Butler as a rotational guy. Hopefully HT returns (unlikely). Need veterans to push Winovich, Uche and Jennings. Someone needs to replace the awful Bentley.

Winovich was used in situational football last year... they have really expanded his role this year for the most part... growing pains right there

Only 2 more games for this guy to have an impact. I would love for him to finally have some big plays tonite and next weekend. Big plays that don't involve a fumble or TD that is not counted...

Exactly my point. He had veterans surrounding him last year, but he's regressed as the headliner at LB/Edge. He needs to work on more rush moves as his track star move is easy to figure out.

learning on the job is never easy... he will get better becaue of the reps he's getting... and if he doesn't then let flores bring him to new england south east coast

Good post by Lazur on Harry:

2. N’Keal Harry, Wide Receiver

I know people are sick of me trying to make Harry happen, but if you watch the tape over the last three weeks, the 2019 first-round pick is improving. Harry is playing with more confidence, running crisper routes, and even testing downfield coverage even if the production isn’t there. His lack of statistical production last week against Miami was mainly an issue of the situation and not being on the same page as Newton, not Harry’s ability to get open.

I am curious how he can produce if we get better weapons and TE that he doesn't have to be WR No 1 or 2. He may be able to do some other routes than as well idk

Belichick's last two drafts are (unsurprisingly) way overrated on this forum. 20 players taken, the most impactful one, Harris, is a running back (gag) who essentially did not play his rookie season and who has 2 touchdowns to his credit and a whopping 5 receptions. I guess you got a nice punter too. Winovich is not an impactful player; he has really interesting hair though.

I wish they would just cut N'Keal Harry because every time I watch him run a crappy route I think of all the other WR's we could / should have taken there...Deebo, A.J. Brown, Hardman, McLauren, Slayton, D.K. Metcalf! Ugh! Damn, even Scotty Miller looks like a player.

Two 3rd round TE's doing absolutely nothing. Literally nothing.

Stidham is so bad he can't get a start over the worst starting quarterback in the league in a meaningless game.

Joejuan Williams is a bust. Although he does play roughly 50% on special teams .

I know we disagree but let me throw some fun facts out at you at get your thoughts:

-Wino is among the league leaders in pressures at edge defenders...I think he is only going to get better. I really good player.
-I like J. Williams- I. may be in the minority but depending on what happens to Chung and or/McCourty, I think he could have a breakout year next season.
-Dugger, Uche, Owenu, Herron, Myles Bryant, Dan Bailey, Asaiasi are going to be players. I also like JJ Taylor and think he will take over for James White....
Harry- Per Lazur and Reiss, his routes have been improving and over the last two games, he has been getting open more often.

Just some thoughts

I will agree that the kicker last year isn't looking good nor is Keene, but overall, I am happy with the last two drafts, especially with picking late in all rounds.

I agree and it's bizarre.
Harris, is a running back (gag) who essentially did not play his rookie season and who has 2 touchdowns to his credit and a whopping 5 receptions.
What don't you like about Harris?
Winovich is not an impactful player
I agree. He has regressed.

If he was any good, he'd take time away from JMac. He was a terrible draft pick then and looks terrible now.

I did not expect keene to contribute in the passing game in year one much tbh even with a better qb..he came from a very different offense in virg tech and TE is anyway hard to learn here in NE so i have hope he will be better next year same for asiasi as well...
the kicker pick is probably the only one i don't like..not so much because of the kicker cause i did not know him at all, but we had plenty late round picks if bb has to select a kicker instead of udfa, and i really wanted idl/de pick there some nt at best but yeah it is what it is..like the rest picks though

Pressures became an en vogue stat made up by BB to defend why his team couldn't sack the QB in 2018. It's an overrated stat which is subjective. Did the QB throw and incomplete pass? An INT? Throw a TB 2019 special in the dirt? Etc. If you're in the same area as the QB and he throws the ball to a wide open WR, you get a "pressure". Winovich has been in and out of the linup this year as he has regressed badly.

How do you like Williams? He rarely plays and when he does, he looks stiff (Eric Rowe esque). The likelihood of him breaking out next season is slim to none. If he was any good, he would've overtaken playing time from JMac already.

Reiss likes Wino and I'll take his opinion 9 out of 10 times over a fans. No disrespect intended.

I don't know, there is something about Williams that I like, I could be wrong, wouldn't be my first, lol, but I think next year, he is going to shine...he has shown promise at times, Week 1 he shut out Geseki...don't know what happened since, but I'm willing to give him a shot, and our secondary is stacked also

None taken. I like Wino too, just not as the "main guy". He be more effective with better players surrounding him.

Agree, we definitely need an upgrade in the front 7...Two studs would be really. nice

Exactly. He’s ok, but he’s not a main guy. We need studs, upper tier players, not ‘just another guy’. On both sides of the ball we are severely lacking impact upper tier talent.

What about Thuney, Mason, JC, Jake Bailey, Wino, Butler, Dugger, Gunner, Andrews, Uche, Wynne, Myers, Jonathan Jones...have there been misses, sure, but for always picking at the bottom of the rounds, I think there is some young talent to build on. We need a qb, two front 7 players and a big time wr, and we will be really good next year...Let's give our young tight ends some time....I also like. what I see from JJ Taylor.
After Thuney & Mason:
JC - undrafted
Bailey - a punter
Wino - already mentioned as regressing (including tonight)
Butler - undrafted
Dugger - unworthy of #37 overall, closer to #73
Gunner - undrafted
Andrews - undrafted
Uche - unworthy of #60, closer to #87, undersized for the LOS but without lateral skills for coverage
Wynn - injured (again)
Meyers - undrafted
Jonathan Jones - undrafted
Taylor - undrafted

Next...
