Bench Newton!

Belichick is trying to win. He decided in august that his best chance to win was to minimize the qb position...
Oh this is pure gold. The supposed GOAT of coaching decided, before the season started, to minimize the most important position in all of professional sports as Plan 1A to win. You need a stage and a spotlight.

What do you think he did?
he had no viable QB so he minimized the impact of the position. How else do you explain the offense we are running?

I don’t know what’s more amusing. This fascination with a JAG 4th round QB who won’t be starting for this or any NFL team. Or this board going from “Stidham sucks we would have beaten the Chiefs if Cam had started” to “Give Stidham a chance!1!1!”
Of course there is not an actual person who says both of those things. Not sure how one person saying one thing a different person saying something else confuses you.

Waived him in August and he’s on Seattle’s practice squad. He will never play a meaningful snap in this league.
He’ll always have that preseason TD run against guys that are long out of the league by now.

I heard a rumor that the pats video guys made a giant portrait of him crossing the goal line and gave it to him from the game film. Could be hanging in his parents house.

because if he can’t do it in a limited practice situation, he won’t do it on game day.

every practice snap is a chance to prove yourself. Newton Has set the bar really low and stidham can’t get over it!

ps: not sure if you remember Ken sims. The players had him the nick name for him “game day”. They did this because he did nothing in practice, but told every body he would show up on game day.
needless to say, he did squat in practice and less on game day.
So sure of what happens in practices you never see.

I have never seen a patriots practice, but if stidham was out performing newton in practice, I am sure bb would make the change or lose the locker room,

because he has not made the change, we have to assume stidham is sucking toilet water in practice.

bishop-Hamilton-adams. What a great defensive line. In 1978 bishop played with a giant club on his hand because of a broken bone and he used that club as a weapon. Great stuff!

Nelson made a million tackle because those three sucked up offensive linemen!

those patriots teams of the mid to late 70’s were a qb away from making Pittsburgh irrelevant!
And an owner away too...In fact especially an owner away...

There could be no other reason for Belichick starting Cam.

Firstly I think he fell off his chair once it became official Brady was headed to Tampa Bay. I'm sure he thought Brady would just sign whatever horseshit contract he was being offered by NE. Secondly I think he literally sat around doing nothing about the quarterback position until Cam was the last man standing. It's inexplicable really. Cam is clearly spent as a passer and his only genuine worth is an occasional burst between the tackles at the goal line (which is resulting in diminishing returns since it's obvious by now that they're afraid to throw it in the red zone).

But to answer your question directly, I think Belichick miscalculated Brady's intent to leave town and then he royally ****ed up plan B.

plan b left with jimmy g.

There was no way to make a plan b work. There was no cap room and even if there were there was no one worth signing.

You understand that newton takes all the reps right?

No, Jimmy G wasn't a factor this off-season, obviously. But since you brought him up, when Belichick first had designs on JG supplanting Brady, that also was a massive miscalculation because Brady still had plenty of elite quarterbacking left in him. The returns on Brady only started diminishing as Belichick was unwittingly emptying out the cupboard. Had Belichick just trusted Brady, and surrounded him with an adequate supporting cast, they would be cruising to another division title with a 12-4 record. The point being, no matter how you frame the argument, Belichick is responsible for this season ultimately being a fail.

As I was saying... if that's how you choose to frame it... no cap room, whatever, Belichick is responsible. He put the team in a position for failure.

Since it was the result of the greatest run if success in the history of the sport I think it’s understandable.
