I also think Payton likes rubbing other people's noses in it that he can win with a guy everyone laughed at him for paying lol.
Yeah. That too. LOL. He is now 8-0 without Brees the last 2 seasons which is very impressive. If this was Bill doing this with a gadget player the last 3 weeks, media would be fawning all over him and COY considerations. Payton is very underrated. He has not had the post-season success because Brees is an awful post-season player much like Manning.

Like Matt Patricia, I'll always appreciate Payton for wearing that shirt.

538's odds for the Bucs

Entering week 14: 84% playoffs, less than 1% for division and bye, and 2% Super Bowl

Bucs win and Saints win: Saints clinch NFC East but Bucs playoffs increase to 96%
Worst case scenario: Bucs lose, Falcons (playing LAC) and Panthers (playing DEN) both win - Bucs playoff odds fall to 60%. Probably because this means the Bucs lost to the Vikings who are chasing them too.

Big game this week. They don't need a win as critically as the Pats do but it's important for them to get one here.

It's an important week for lots of teams. In the race for bragging rights, Tampa needs to win to keep ahead of NE. NE is coming on strong but I wonder if they can keep on winning with the kind of offensive stats they are producing.

What are the odds for making the playoff for NE. I don't think a 9-7 record will be good enough for a wildcard in the AFC but I think it will be for at least 1 team in the NFC. So Tampa even if they loss 2 more still has a good chance.

I doubt very much Tampa cares about NE at all. It is a media creation. Tampa needs to win because they can basically wrap up a playoff spot with 2 more wins as you say. If they can get to 10 wins they could be the 5th seed potentially and get the NFC East winner which would be a good path to the playoffs.

For the Pats, 9-7 definitely won't get them in and I am not sure 10 will either. AFC is just really tough this year.

10-6 is a wide path in. Doubtful we'll see another week like last week where every single team the Pats are chasing win their games. A couple of those teams like Miami have schedules that are toughening up.

9-7 would require a ton of help and the 1 extra loss from their record now absolutely would need to be tonight. Agree it won't be enough but it would however keep the Patriots NFL record winning streak season alive in a year where honestly it had no business doing so.

Tampa needs to win because they are playing a team directly behind them in a playoff race. Lose and their odds drop by quite a bit. TB missing the playoffs would be a bigger disaster than NE missing given the makeup of each team and their schedules. I do think they'll win and make a run in the NFC.

LOL. Brady would face the Giants on the road first round? I'll bet they lose.
Also LOL the Pats having a better record than the Bucs. I would lose my bet. I love Brady but have been very disappointed in his and his team's performance this season.

Pats having a better record than the Bucs would be absolutely remarkable.

7-5 is only one game better than 6-6 but the Pats are about to start the toughest stretch of their season. I can see Bucs winning at least 3 of their last 4, and Pats splitting their last 2. We'll see what happens.

What would be amusing is if the Pats are 8-7 but eliminated, Bill putting a preseason lineup out there against the Jets to try and make them win and screw them out of Lawrence. :D

Yeah. Tampa just had their toughest 4 game stretch and now has their easiest games left. The Pats have their toughest stretch now.

All this talk about Tampa Bay’s offense. Listen, it’s their first year together. Period point blank. Nobody mentions that. No OTAs, real training camp, Preseason etc..Brady is a timing/rhythmic QB (as everyone on here should know). Also, Brady is trying to mesh with Arians, whose offense is predicated on pushing the ball down the field. We all know that this isn’t particularly one of Brady’s strengths consistently, so of course naturally they’ll struggle to a degree. Then, you have the fact that TB’s backs aren’t particularly strong receiving out of the backfield, which heightens their efficiency issues. Brady isn’t picking up those “gimme yards”/check downs for 3-6 yards that he’s used to from White, Vereen, Faulk, Woodhead etc, which subsequently results in more “3rd n longs” then they’d like. Not sure what the atmosphere is like in the locker room/amongst QB & coach, but Brady & Arians need to have a discussion regarding a slight modification of the offense. Something they’d both be comfortable with. Aside from giving the team an extra season to gel and iron out the wrinkles mentioned above, they need to incorporate a more proficient offensive style to suit Brady’s strengths. He’s clearly flustered due to Arians’ desire to let it rip for 60 minutes, but those plays take time to develop. Incorporate some screens, check downs, draws etc to ease the stress on the OL & augment the proficiency of the offense & spell the defense. Honestly, there’s no reason (health permitting) for this offense not to be dominant; or at the very least, much more efficient (Looking at you Arians)...
The issue of course is this isn’t a rookie an you brought in. It is a qb with 1-3 years left. He doesn’t really have a lot of chances to get comfortable. Sadly

I guess, in retrospect, Brady putting up 38 points on the Chargers wasn't so impressive

This is the kind of thing that gets overlooked when fans look at a team's record.
TB played a much tougher schedule early, with 2 games vs NO and games against GB, the Rams and Raiders. They finish with Atlanta twice, Minny and Detroit.
On the flip side we have the Dolphins, who so far played teams with a combined record of 52-91-1, the easiest in the NYFL by a country mile. They finish with four teams with a combined record of 33-15.

I'd bet on the Bucs vs the Giants if it happens.

I was just saying to someone, the difference between 11 or 12 wins is beating the garbage teams and going .500 vs the good ones. Tampa is 5-1 vs losing teams with the one loss to the Bears on the short week. They are 2-4 vs good teams. If they win their next 4 then they finish with 11 wins. The Pats lost 3 games to losing teams which is why they are sitting at 6-6 and now have their 3 toughest games ahead of them so if they go 1-2 which is likely then they finish with 7 or 8 wins and out of the playoffs.

Really? Would have thought no AFCE team would have an easier schedule than the AFCN. Though they play each other so I guess it evens a bit

With no passing game - that's impressive. They'll get 3 more chances to add to that total.

So far, the Pats have played to the level of the competition, last Sunday being the exception. I'm wondering if continually losing to the Dolphins in Miami was more of a Brady thing, or more of a Belichick thing. I guess we will find out in 10 days.

What worries me about Tampa is they're still trying to figure out who they are and what they do best. Are they an Arians offense or a Brady offense? Is the defense gonna play soft coverage or are they going to be aggressive in man and blitz? It's an easy schedule, but whether they win depends on what kind of team we see.

Yep. Typical for the first year together of a new QB and new team/coach. I hope they can figure it out in time.
