Kind of OT: Jack Easterby article on SI

There should be a spoiler warning for anyone who still hasn’t watched GoT. The author gives away some big time deaths.
Isn't there a statute of limitations on spoilers?

It's become standard operating procedure for entities like universities and their athletic departments, pro sports franchises, even major corporations to cater to their minority students/athletes/employees by deploying incredible resources designed to acclimate/counsel/foster/integrate them into a society very unfamiliar to many.
And for many of these young people who came from nothing, they are often suspicious of unfamiliarities. To make connections, these universities, sports teams, etc. provide a familiarity with a common connection......often someone with a religious background.
Those are the people I’d be suspicious of... but I get what you’re saying here.

Basically instead of trying learn about them and treat them like human beings they act like minorities are aliens from another planet and try and throw money at the situation only to get taken advantage of by snake oil salesmen.

There seems to be a good deal of bible thumping weirdos in the NFL for some reason. I always think of this article from the Joe Gibbs II era in Washington about how over the top some of the cultishness got in the locker room.

So now you are attacking religious people? Don't people have freedom of religion in this country? You people want free speech for BLM, but not freedom of religion.

Lol what are you whining about?

You calling people "bible-thumping weirdos." If you want to attack Easterby because he's not qualified to be a personnel man, then fine, but why go after religion?

There are all kinds of weirdos in the world and some of them thump bibles.

Sure, but what does being a "weirdo" or a "bible thumper" or both have anything to do with Easterby's disastrous tenure in Houston? The guy deserves to be excoriated for the Hopkins trade, among other things, but the criticism should be directed at his incompetence as a personnel guy.

Because him and the Joel Osteen's of the world are conniving thieves who hide behind religion while practicing none of what they preach so they can line their pockets.

I can’t believe Snape killed Dumbledore
He really didn't. He just aided in his suicide and saved him from an immanent and painful death. (for the record)

I agree that some preachers are frauds, but the SI article does not mention Easterby as a religious fraud. Rather, the focus of the article was on his rise to power and his incompetence as interim GM of the Texans for the most part. let's stick to that, ok?

Someone's a little touchy. Are you a priest or something?

I don't personally understand how huge religion is in the US, so I always found his ascension rather bizarre. Furthermore, I doubly found it weird since BB never struck me as a deeply devout individual. So, I chalked it up to "BB is trying to reach out to his players as much as possible".
This country was founded on religion. Its all over our currency.

Many NFL players are deeply religious. Church is a way of life in South. Southern Baptist, attend service twice on Sunday and Wednesday evening if youre not a backslider. Plus, there is bible study, choir practice and Sunday school prior to the morning service. These players and coaches pray before and after games. You will see players pointing up to heaven after a big play every single game.

Basically, you have believers and non believers on any team. Its the believers duty to entice the non believers to the faith. Winning souls is part of the faith and is written in the bible.

I suspect we are very different, you and I.
