The offense meanwhile is also last in number of drives. Quite interesting is that they are doing much better in terms of yards per drive (#9) than points per drive (#22), which shows a central problem of this offense, the QB/WR combination on that team is just not capable of delivering chunk plays to quickly bridge the field and get into scoring position. Rather they work their way slowly across the field using short passes and the run game and then get stuck somewhere in nowhere more often than not.

Sounds awfully similar to the 2019 offense.

The Patriots D this year have faced the fewest drives against with 105, which is 6 less than the next-closest team (the Giants). So while the D is #7 in points per game allowed, they are actually #20 in points per drive allowed. The problem is probably not so much getting off the field on 3rd down (they are #18 in that), but rather allowing chunk plays on 1st and 2nd down, leading to easy 3rd downs and extended drives (they are #31 in average duration per drive).

Saw that stat about us being 2nd or something only to kc (?) in yards per drive. Very suprising, but somewhat encouraging on our ability to move the ball . Seems we’ve gotten better in the red zone lately as we should with cam used as a runner more.

I think it's been pretty clear that the team we've seen all year is almost identical to the team we saw in the last 2 months of 2019. Only difference of note is the passing offense gave away some of its production to the running offense, but the end results are similar.

Personally, I have more faith into the 2020 team to drive down the field than their 2019 counter parts. Newton's ability to run also makes redzone trips and third & shorts more likely to end up in success.

But yeah both teams have similar issues with creating chunk plays and keeping themselves on course after a negative play or a penalty.

I'd say the big difference between this years offense and last years offense, qb aside, is that the OL is playing really well.

Brady on this team would likely be much more prolific because of the running game....closer to 2018

There's also the fact that it's easy to critcize Cam for his passing, but he has double digit rushing TD's and will likely break 500 yards this year rushinga as a QB. You also see teams hold off when he hands the ball off because they are afraid he's going to take it himself and don't want to get caught. He does add a dynamic to our best offensive aspect that I don't think we can assume Stidham will add.

That's a piece of the puzzle as well.
I immediately began thinking of his jet sweep yesterday where he let Michel get out in front (and throw a sweet block). Yeah, there are a lot of intangibles to Cam's game that make a difference - in the end, though, he's got to fix his arm. his motion and release, and thus accuracy, are really all over the place.

Yeah he should've purposefully dropped that INT...But I don't believe that's when it happened...The next series perhaps?
He was on last week's injury report with a hip injury. So probably aggravated that. If we play on Thursday do we get an injury report Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday?

I would once again add youth and inconsistency (for all but the special teams basically). Young teams are also more likely to "let down" after a big win because they don't have the experience of understanding what it takes in practice and film study after a blowout like that to "keep up" the same intensity from end of the previous game to the start of the next one. That's one of those intanglible differences between year one and year three.

So, I just watched a replay of the Gunner Punt Return for TD and saw SLATER make almost the exact same block that Jennings did last week. Surprised that he wasn't called for it..

Chiefs are hoping the Pats don't make the playoffs as they are the worst matchup defensively for the Chiefs.

Would've beaten them earlier this year with Cam.

This team is more committed to the run (out of necessity), but still are determined to run, even with 8 in the box. And are having success despite that. Michel has little wear and tear this year, should be fresh late. They also have shown variety in their running plays. It ain’t beautiful but can be effective - see the Titans last year. You gotta play good defense to make this approach work, and that is also improving. This team is developing an identity, something they never had last year. Does not mean they will make the playoffs, but if they beat the Rams, watch out!

And if the Bills lose tonight, all of a sudden NE will think it can win the division

Did cb Jones get hurt against the chargers?

Not really. Slater's block is at the 9 second mark of the video and the key differences are
1) he is not making the block with his back to the endzone where the play is going; and
2) The block was involved arms rather than a big blast up, which shouldn't matter, but the more violent that the block LOOKS, the more likely the zebras are to throw the flag.

I am not saying that the call on Jennings was deserved (it wasn't), just that Slater's was not even close to a gray area.

Buccaneers 7-5
Patriots 6-6

Heh.
Come to think of it it's
Buccaneers with Brady 7-5
Pats with Cam 6-5

I'd still trade the Pats position with the Bucs though. They'll make the playoffs and it's not likely we will.

To be fair, Slater's back was indeed facing his offensive EZ when he made his 2nd block, but he was also standing completely still as the defender began to chase Gunner, and it wasn't as if that guy had been running at full speed for 20 yards or anything, as in the Jennings block (which was Correctly called as per the new regs)...So there are similarities here but also enough differences to make this one a proper Non-call.
