Bill also played Bledsoe in front of Brady and Sony ahead of Harris. Bb is very slow to put in younger players ahead of respected veterans.
The reluctance with Sony was understandable imo. Sony had a huge role in our SB win (more than Brady imo).

Cam is being paid peanuts. If Stid was all that, there’s no downside financial or otherwise making the switch.

Lots of good stuff today, but my main takeaway is that it’s thoroughly confusing to see Rashod Berry with Nate Ebner’s number.

Wrong there is a downside. Football
Is a team game and Cam is obviously loved in the locker room. Pulling him does present some downside, just like pulling Bledsoe would have.

Sure. But they’re definitely not bound financially to him multi-year like they were were Drew. Cam knew he’s on a short leash coming in to this year. Bill wouldn’t hesitate to do it if he really wanted to regardless of how Cam is viewed in the locker room if he thought it would be better for the football team.

This is the same guy that benched Butler in the SB. I’m sure he would make a switch if he really believed it was the right thing to do.

Pats shouldn’t be thinking about playoffs right now. One game at a time.

They have a much more difficult opponent on Thursday and they need to beat them just as much as they needed to beat the Chargers.
I'm sure they aren't, but since I'm a fan and not a part of the org, I am. And there's no way we go anywhere in the playoffs with 60 yards of production from cam over a game

Jimmy did it last year. Not that I’d like to see that but it can be done in the short term if the rest of your team is good enough.

Stidham is not an NFL caliber starting QB. Seems like Bill agrees with that.
The problem here is that you're evaluating a 2nd year 4th round pick as if he was a top half 1st round draft pick. The kid is still learning. If you can't admit that then why should anyone listen to your opinion?

From the GDT:

Stidham showed an incredibly lively arm at Baylor before he went to Auburn. Not sure what happened.

Per Auburn fans, Gus Malzahn happened; supposedly, few coaches have done less with more.

Did you miss his catch and run? Great catch and some nice moves. He was running well until the stuff at the end.
The stuff at the end had Ferentz and Cunningham taking snaps. It's no wonder Michel wasn't getting much. His first run of the game, which came during the 2nd quarter, was for 10 yards. His second, which came later, was only for 3. But it also came just two plays after Harris had fumbled and recovered his own fumble.

WR Gunner Olszewski scored his first NFL touchdown on a 70-yard punt return in the second quarter. It is the first punt return for a touchdown for New England since WR Julian Edelman returned a punt 84 yards vs. Denver on Nov. 2, 2014. Olszewski's return comes on the heels of an 82-yard punt return for a touchdown that was reduced after a penalty to a 58-yard punt return in the win vs. Arizona on Nov. 29.

OLSZEWSKI IS THE FIRST PATRIOTS PLAYER WITH TWO 60-YARD PUNT RETURNS IN ONE GAME

Olszewski added a 61-yard punt return in the fourth quarter, in addition to his 70-yard touchdown return in the second quarter. He is the first player in Patriots history with two punt returns of at least 60 yards in a single game.

Olszewski finished with 145 punt return yards, the second-most ever by a Patriots player in a single game.

Most Punt Return Yards in a Game for the Patriots
  • 156 - Mike Haynes vs. Buffalo, Nov. 7, 1976
  • 145 - Gunner Olszewski, at LA Chargers, Dec. 6, 2020

J.C. Jackson has recorded seven interceptions and recovered two fumbles for a total of nine takeaways in 2020. CB Asante Samuel (10 interceptions) has the team mark for most takeaways in a single season under head coach Bill Belichick. The all-time Patriots record is held by DB Ron Hall, who recorded 13 takeaways (11 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries) in a single season in 1964.

MOST TAKEAWAYS IN A SEASON FOR A PATRIOTS PLAYER UNDER BILL BELICHICK
  • 10 - Asante Samuel in 2006 (10 interceptions)
  • 9 - JC Jackson in 2020 (7 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries)
  • 8 - Kyle Arrington in 2011 (7 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery)

He can’t throw anymore.
but he brings more than just throwing I guess. Why teams don’t stack the box for the run and force him to throw more is beyond me. I think better coaches will

Totally disagree. He's like a 70-75% passer since the covid fog. He has thrown for 370 yards a couple times. It has a lot to do with the game plan and that the OC basically treats him like a glorified running back. When the playbook opens up all of the sudden he throws for 20 yard passes regularly. Only seems to happen when they're forced to pass while trailing big. Otherwise it goes to the Brisett playbook.

Cam is the best rushing QB in history. Every 4th and 1 and goal line should have a Cam RPO or Cam sneak

The only blimp today is that none of the teams we wanted to lose lost so we haven't gained any ground in terms of standings .
Which is actually a net lose, since now there's only 4 games left in which to catch up, rather than 5 games. The magic numbers of all the teams ahead of NE all got smaller.

Yeah that's kinda the issue. But it's the price you pay for losing early and not being in control of your own destiny.

None of us (as far as I know) work for the Patriots, and therefore we can't know what happens internally outside of what we observe on Sundays (and Mondays/Thursdays ... and this year, Tuesdays).

That said, the vibe I'm getting based on the murmurs and whispers from reporters is that Stidham is talented, has a live arm, shows up at times in games, but isn't consistently performing well from a mental/leadership/work-ethic perspective in meetings and on the practice field.

Not sure if that is the case, but it would explain why Cam has remained the starter despite Stidham's seemingly higher potential as a passer.

There's also the fact that it's easy to critcize Cam for his passing, but he has double digit rushing TD's and will likely break 500 yards this year rushinga as a QB. You also see teams hold off when he hands the ball off because they are afraid he's going to take it himself and don't want to get caught. He does add a dynamic to our best offensive aspect that I don't think we can assume Stidham will add.

That's a piece of the puzzle as well.
