HC Matt Patricia and GM Bob Quinn fired in Detroit

3-7 is well coached?

There was a report another poster posted from ESPN about a week ago. He's been calling out guys and saying "Do Your Job" and they are rolling their eyes over that. It's speculated that it was Colombo (who he reportedly got into a fist fight with) that has been leaking the info.
The fight rumour was dismissed. He fired Colombo and Colombo was pissed.

Giants are 3-7 but have you seen there roster?

Just because a team has a bad record doesn’t mean they are badly coached. That team doesn’t have much talent on it.

Lions didn't seem to improve whatsoever. So this makes sense. I wonder if Jim Caldwell is better than half the coaches in the league, he took them 9-7 before. Do not bring Patricia back.

Wouldn’t say Caldwell was a great coach, but he was a good one and is much better than Patricia. Not sure why they needed to fire him for Patricia.
I think his monotone approach had something to do with it, rightly or wrongly.

Ageee. And Interesting when our coach is the most notorious for bland media-unfriendly interviews.

In reading articles sounds like the GM Quinn had mentioned Patricia to the team president Woods for 2 years before firing Caldwell. Couldn't hire earlier bc the Pats were in the Superbowl. There's no easy solution to the 'fit' conundrum where you just have some human beings who prefer another good ole boy instead of a coach who is a little different from them.

.

Do we want Patricia back?.... nah.

Question is more about what the lions are going to do with his binkies. Flowers, Shelton, Collins, Harmon could help this team. Heck, we could even use a 35yo Amendola right now.

3-2 in their last 5 after an 0-5 start, 5 of those losses were 1 score games. We will see if there’s improvement on the overall record year 2.

So what if he’s calling guys out if they’re failing to do their job. That’s his job to coach the team. He needs to find the players who are buying in and weed out those who aren’t especially in year 1. He needs to establish the identity of what he wants his team to be going forward.

Patricia always struck me as a DC whose scientific background got the best of him concerning his overall philosophy to defense.

Just seemed to me he preferred the idea of conservative play, and the sheer amount of snaps that creates (aka opportunities to capitalize on miscues, forcing teams to play very disciplined) and didn't value the potential cost of more aggressive calls at all. He seemed to prefer the percents in almost every instance.

There's my entirely unsubstantiated hot take of the month.

Patrica will come back here as a defensive consultant and I don’t know how I feel about that.
At least Quinn drafted Golladay.
I’d bring him back as well.
I don't think so. Mayo is as good as he is, and Steve is in the wings looking or a promotion too. Someone will pick him up as a DC but I don't see it being the Patriots. Honestly I could see him going to the Texans or Dolphins or even the Jets, not that I'd wish the Jets on anyone.

As we make fun of Patricia, let’s remember this fantastic move...

There's the reason I bought that tee shirt on ebay immediately after the SB...
I've been wondering: is Steve nearing his first off-season HC interview?
I know there are a lot of foolish owners in the league, but...
do you remember SB52? I’m still triggered over it.
The HC forced the DC to play short-handed that game...

Do not see a future for Patricia in this organization, but Quinn might be an asset in the scouting department.

Our D seemed to play better after he left..

I said it way before the Patricia hire, but....

Don't hire Patriots assistant coaches. I wonder how much Brady covered for the deficiencies in our coaching staff or just how much Bill did for them, because not a single Patriots assistant has been anything but a disaster.

The only coach with a Patriots connection that hasn't been brutal is Vrabel, and he's a former player.

Flores seems to be doing well.

Lions needs to move on from Stafford. Trade him for whatever they can. He'll never get them over the hump, not even good enough to keep a coach from getting fired.

Holy ****, I hope he doesn’t come back here. Go to Houston after they (hopefully) hire Creepy Caserio. In the meantime, use your free time to hop on a treadmill, Matt. Your heart is begging you for some cardio.
