Jackson has had a little coming out party for himself over the last few weeks. We've known he was good for years now, but he's gone from the somewhat slap happy rookie who made a lot o contact and drew a lot of DPI calls into a real threat in coverage who needs to be taken seriously by opposing OCs. I keep hearing his name in the highlights and I'm wondering what the consensus is on whether he's taken that final step and become an elite top CB. Personally I think he has.

I don't know about elite, but I would priorise him and try to get JC signed longterm. He is a key member of the D and he is young.

I do not think I would go as far as saying elite. To me that is reserved for the top 5-10 players at the position. However, I do think at least one third of the teams if not one half would have him as their top corner.

I was really looking forward to seeing what the secondary could do this year with both Gilly and Jackson, but with Covid neutering the defense, I think we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg. Shame.

He got trashed by a couple clowns on the NYJ...pump the brakes on the elite label...right now he's a good corner.

Odd time to post this one week removed from the worst game of his career. He is a good player. Should be a perfect fit as the #2 CB. Not convinced about him as a #1 right now.

he does often guess plays (anticipate you might call it) which gets him burned here and there when he is guessing wrong, on the other hand this things do lead him to having already 14INT in his carrer so far, he is still very good CB but he is not (yet?) elite, very few are

Regarding JC Jackson’s status among CBs:

The average passer rating across the league is near 95. It has never been harder to play corner. The two CBs likely to be all-pros in Ramsey & Alexander still have passer rating against in the 70s (Gilmore was 48 last year) & 1 INT a piece.

When you have 14 INTs in 2.5 seasons & a passer rating against of 47.4 for a career you are at worst a ballhawk. Tough to compare him to Gilmore who had the most impressive CB season since Revis.

He’s a better version of Marcus Peters who just got paid. There aren’t many shutdown CBs left & he isn’t one.

what does that even mean?

"uhhhh, he's elite now........says right here"

"I think I'll take it to cumbies along with my 0.99 to get a cup of coffee for 0.99"

To me, elite means guys don't throw over his side.

For me he is very good
I hope he will be a patriot for a long time

Turnovers are about as good as they come. I'll take a ball-hawking, turnover generating DB every day.

It'd be one thing if Jackson was giving up a lot of catches while also getting the turnovers, but other than a play here or there he's generally not thrown at often and when he is, he's highly competitive.

I really don't see why anyone wouldn't love Jackson. Straps guys up in man coverage and is simultaneously a ball-hawking turnover machine.

Great player. Hope he's here in the future.

Elite, no. Potential to be elite, absolutely. He has to learn to play the modern game, though. But if this were the 90's and early 2000's, he'd be an All-Pro probably.

I love JC Jackson and think he will be a great corner in the league but he is far from elite right now. When he is good he is very good but he is still very inconsistent. He got burned for about 100 yards, 2 TD's, and a DPI but also broke up a TD for Perriman and had that pick Flacco lobbed up. All in all that wasn't a good game. Similar but not quite as bad of a game against the Bills as he gave up in the ballpark of 100 yards but also had an INT. Honestly he reminds me a lot of Asante Samuel and that what I think he can become. A very good but not quite elite corner who will gamble to make some big plays but will still get burned sometimes.

Good player... room to improve...

Hopefully he doesn't get hit with the "elite tag" until after he signs a new contract

19 tackles (16 solo)
24/42 on passes attempted in his direction
11 passes defended, 6 INTs

... and most pertinent to your post, only 1 defensive penalty committed over the entirety of the 2020 season to this point (and it was that completely bogus DPI in the NYJ game against Berrios, where the ball was very clearly uncatchable - take that away and he's penalty free on defense).

Seems to be adapting fairly well to me.

Bingo. Elite level corners don’t get those INTs in bunches because they don’t get tested. He is a very good #2 corner, though. But he’s not Gilmore, Law, or Revis in his prime. Those are elite corners.

I think he is the best #2 corner in the league but as a #1 CB (Matching up against teams best receivers) he isn't on the "elite" side of that group of corners.

Unfortunately, some team will pay BIG for him if we don't. Look at Logan Ryan/Asante Samuel etc...

He is definitely a much much better corner than Eric Rowe !
