OT: Official 2020 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Mitchell as a rookie had a fantastic Super Bowl. He would've given us Givens (pardon the pun) production at least.

Givens was a 50-60 catch guy in New England before he went away, averaged 800 yards in his last 2 full years here, and he was a 1st down machine.

Branch was a Super Bowl MVP who was fantastic for us, made a Pro Bowl.

Who are the Steelers you're counting as your 7/13?
i didnt discount givens. i said i would include him. but i prefaced with definition of a hit was 1000yd recv.

the 7 out of 13 were steeler recvs drafted in the last decade that matched our best recv by production in the last decade. i didnt say they were hits, just pointing out the production.

the 5 hits (1000 yd recvs)
JuJu Smith-Schuster Emmanuel Sanders Antonio Brown Mike Wallace Santonio Holmes

not including currrent flavor of the day (claypool, diontate, washington) who are producing better on avg than anyone we've seen in last ten years

im not counting Plaxico or Hines who are from same period as Branch . thats just too long ago

mitchell was an ok COG that had some good games, just like dobson did. im sure you could have filled in anyone else at that point. he was def not a good pick IMO. he had 401 yd season (love his contribution in 51)

It's incredible how many pro bowlers Pittsburgh drafts and develops at WR. Like Scar at OL but for WRs. You listed off like 7 pro bowlers over the last 20 years. If we compared early 3-round picks at WR the Steelers are probably 7/7 or some super high hit rate while the Pats are 0/whatever on high WR picks.

.

love everyone bagging on BB right now like they were waiting for it. The whole bears game is forgotten suddenly.
You talking about the game 4 days after another game while they were down Godwin and Evans/Miller played hurt. Haha

This season is happening just as any honest, non homer football fan could've called it. Brady looking like the effin GOAT and BB back to what he was before TFB, a sub .500 coach.

What a stupid remark.

I think that posters thinking the 2020 NE Patriots would be winning the SB w Brady and Gronk are a bit much.

First, it was rebuild time in NE. Secondly, Brady & Gronk - despite being the greatest at their positions - aren’t quite as consistant as they once were. This week it’s amazing, last week not so much. Their 2020 versions are fine. But not nearly enough to push NE into SB contention.

This is nonsense. Pats have been revuilding with Brady here for 2 decades. We never have the “best” roster but are constantly in the playoffs and often enough in the championship and SBs. This year was no different.

We just disagree. It was over. We saw “one season too late”. Brady is happier in Tampa. And it pushes the team into a “proper reset”.

Tonight, when Brady looks great, it might look like a mistake. Other weeks, he might not look as good.
I’d rather be 2-3 wi to Brady here than without. Frankly I can’t comprehend us being 2-3 wi TD Brady here. It wouldn’t have happened. We’d win the Chiefs and Broncos games with Brady.

We messed up. That’s all there is to it.

I don’t see how they’ve been “exposing him” considering both of their production was better in New England than so far in Tampa. Sounds like a typical knee jerk article like the knee jerk articles three weeks ago proclaiming the Patriots offense better with Newton.

I’ve said for years that McDaniels is overrated though. He isn’t an idiot...it’s just that with Brady, prime Gronk, etc., there are a lot offensive coordinators who would look like geniuses. When challenged with short handed personnel, I haven’t seen much brilliance from him at all.

He didn’t do well in Denver or St. Louis; heck, even Bill O’Brien was brilliant when he had Brady. He gets too much credit for the team’s success.

But most of this is just the nature of coaching...like how the Ravens brought in so many offensive coordinators yet Joe Flacco always wound up with a passer rating of 83 - and prime to check downs - despite so much talk about concepts and schemes. There are only a few coordinators who truly seem to stand out over a long period of time with major personnel ups and downs.
One could say the same thing about BB. Compare his career with and without Brady. And I daresay, it looked ugly before and it’s starting to look ugly again.

Jimmy Garoppolo is right back to being himself after injury. Nice game Jimmy. 3 TD while playing on a sore ankle, tough to push off of. Maybe Jimmy needs his thread in this forum. Any Jimmy G. Fans?

I am! Easy to cheer for the guy. Maybe the “benched” topic can turn into the JG fan club

I'm struggling with this idea that Dobson was like Mitchell. Don't remember Brady relying on Dobson ever. Mitchell was derailed by injuries, but that has nothing to do with the talent evaluation, especially since his injury history began in the pros. He pretty much showed he could have given us what Givens did with his route running if he had stayed healthy.

I literally just listed 8 Steelers busts! Not to mention the fact that some of the studs like Antonio Brown are late rounders and not premiums.

The Steelers are 7/17 on their hit rate over the time we're talking about. I didn't check the rest of the NFL to see if that's in line, but one thing is for sure, the Steelers expend a lot of picks on WRs, maybe more than anyone else in the NFL, and the Patriots expend so few, maybe the least in the NFL.

Go back and look at McDaniels game plan last week with Hoyer. Poor decision making from Hoyer, but McDaniels absolutely designed the best possible offense ANYONE could with limited resources.

McDaniels is actually the one guy I trust here.

Perfect analogy. Brady-fomer Pats quarterback. Garoppolo-former Pats quarterback. Patsfans should be just as eager to want to root for one as the other. I mean the handful of games Jimmy started for us is obviously equal to the 20 years Brady did. You've reduced The Greatest of all time to be equal to a jag. No wonder the objective sb1 liked your post.

Yes, you did miss it. Go back and read my post.

The Steelers have drafted 17 WRs in the first 4 rounds in the last 2 decades.

The Patriots have drafted 9.

You can look solely at the first 3 rounds too, and it's obvious the Steelers just expend more premium resources:

Steelers 13
Patriots 7

The Steelers literally expend 2x as many premium resources as the Patriots do on WRs.

They've also had a lot of premium busts over the years, like Wheaton, Sweed, Coates, Archer, Reid, Gibson, Farmer, etc.
Some drafts are not good WR drafts.

Some drafts are good WR drafts and NE picks Brandon Tate over Mike Wallace. Kneal Harry over DK Metcalf or Terry McLaurin. Chad Jackson over Greg Jennings or Brandon Marshall.

Same success rate as Pittsburgh? No

Players that the Steelers consider buts like Wheaton and Bryant would be considered Stars on the Pats.

Wheaton 3rd 749 yards and 5 TDs
Bryant 4th 765 yards and 6 TDs

@Tony2046 @dreighver

Guys, do not bicker on my account. I have no shame in anything I've done on this board, including starting and maintaining this thread. I enjoy my team, my favorite player and football in general. I am a man of my word, so when I say I won't respond to something in this case, I simply won't. I know where my loyalty lays. I don't care who might doubt it or call it into question now. That doesn't bother me one bit. But Tony, your willingness to speak on my behalf is very much appreciated. I'm truly humbled.

I just appreciate the board, @Ian and the other moderators. This is a fantastic community overall. I thank everyone who has participated in any thread I've ever started, as well as those who have ever engaged me personally in good football (and life) conversation. Bless you all.

P.S. Out of respect and with respect, dreighver, I ask that you never include my mom in any future posts. I get that you were trying to maybe think of an extreme example, but the things that woman has done for me in my life... I cannot describe them. The love, respect and admiration I have for her go beyond this world. I honor her in every way I can. Please don't ever mention her in a post again. This is not a threat or anything stupid or immature. Just one person asking another person to respect my mother, her name, her reputation and her life. Thank you, sir.
