What is going on at the TE position?

I don't understand it, do we just have horrible Tight Ends or is there a plan I can't see? Asiasi? Keene? Are they just too inexperienced or are they not good enough at this level? I was hoping to see something from a TE by now, any TE. I think they collectively just have one catch in four games right?
What gives?
Three targets, 1 open, overthrew, 2 seam covered front and back 1 intercepted, other a possible catch but would have been spectacular.

He is? What number does he wear? Serious question on the number. I really don't even know and I don't care to look it up.
86 open twice in LV game, first time Cam chose to throw an interception instead of throwing to 86

Izzo is dropping passes.

Just like last season.
Have not seen that. Willing to rewatch the one in the end zone but it looked like a very difficult attempt. First interception Hitchens made the play, First pass overthrown.

The most important aspect to remember as a NE TE is to catch the ball.

Izzo is catching 37% of his attempts.
HMMM! Figures don't lie BUT, you know the rest. I would need more information on how this percentage is tabulated. Wonder how this same statistic would fit to other pass catchers on the team. So Asiasi would still be at 100% because no one has thrown to him?

Fire our Offensive scouts

This would be a refreshing change: Why don't you and Captain Douchebag do some research and for once bring something more than a table than negativity without facts or honest analysis?

FACT: The 2019 draft was supposedly one of the best TE drafts in years. How many of the 2019 draftees made a real impact last year? ONE (Fant). How about this year? Only TWO of the 2019 TE draftees are in the TOP 20 at the position for catches, receiving yards or touchdowns, and neither of them was available when the Pats picked in the first round (Fant and Hockenson).

FACT: NONE of the 2020 TE draftees are making an impact at this point, unless you consider 7/59/1 in 4 games impactful.
From the Athletic:

Tight End
Harrison Bryant, Cleveland Browns (4th round, No. 115 overall)

With only one tight end drafted in the top-90 picks in April, it wasn’t a strong draft class at the position and the underwhelming production has backed up that sentiment through four games. Bryant won the John Mackey Award as college football’s top tight end last season and was widely considered a Day 2 pick, which made him a great value find for the Browns in the fourth round.

With David Njoku on injured reserve, Bryant has been a productive complement to Austin Hooper in Cleveland’s “12” personnel groupings. The Florida Atlantic product leads all rookie tight ends in receptions (seven), receiving yards (59) and touchdown catches (one). While he is a receiver-first, Bryant has also impressed with his blocking so far.

Runner-up: Adam Trautman, New Orleans Saints (3rd round, No. 105 overall)

There wasn’t much competition here as only Bryant and Trautman have more than one catch on the young season among rookie tight ends. Trautman has played only 66 snaps through four games, producing three catches for 34 yards.

Honorable Mentions: Cole Kmet (Chicago Bears), Josiah Deguara (Green Bay Packers)

"only Bryant and Trautman have more than one catch on the young seaso
n among rookie tight ends"

Once again the fellowship of the miserable on this site don't know what the f*ck they're talking about. Piss off.

Generally speaking tightends take a year or 2 to develop in the NFL. Gronk and AHern are outliers. Most rookie TEs start 'showing' later in their first seasons. I think Evan Engram is the only other recent outlier.

The TE play has been improved from a blocking standpoint and izzo has improved a bit in that respect. Asiasi is getting reps..holding his own blocking. The timing will come..it will click.

Keene is more of a project.

Would agree that a veteran TE would have made a lot of sense here but....what do I know.
Yep. Also, Noah Fant was pretty productive in his rookie season as well, but still; an outlier.

Izzo is playing well actually....if not for some high throws...he would have had some action on MNF. Asiasi is blocking well at least...and Keene...I haven't noticed him yet...has he even taken any live reps?

Thank you for this. I missed chuck of that game. So he is getting sneaky open. Ok, maybe just a matter of time.

I'm not saying Izzo is the 2nd coming but in comparison to last year hes a completely diff player. He looks like a legit NFL TE. Should he be a TE1..no, not long term. He's a legit TE2. Blocks well..moves well and can make a grab here and there.

Asiasi is going to get his. Someone mentioned LV game..he got himself open more than once. Ran hard and blocked well. Its going to click eventually. Id imagine his mind is still trying to allign its itself with his physical gifts. When it clicks hes going to be a great addition.

What's going on is McDaniels has zero idea how to develop TEs, WRs, or TEs.

Never developed a TE in NE from 05-08, or in Denver or St Louis, or in NE since 2012.

Izzo is exactly what a serviceable backup NFL tight end looks like.

If he stays healthy Izzo will still be in the league even after his rookie contract ends.

It's not his fault the team doesn't have a #1 TE.

...or a #2 TE either...or a #3...

I actually think Izzo has some upside....he keeps getting better and better incrementally....and more importantly after being a TERRIBLE blocker early last season...he has improved in that area this year.

Agreed but he does not look fluid catching passes. When the ball is right where he wants it he looks OK, but when the ball is not placed perfectly he does not seem to be able to adjust his body to compensate. Maybe he is seeing the ball too late and will be more aware as he gets more comfortable (the game slows down for him), and will be able to adjust to a ball away from the defender or down low. But if not he is very limited. TE3, and maybe a TE2 if he can learn to be more aware and adjust his routes.

N'Keal is playing well post Brady, Byrd is playing well, Sony had a breakout game last week with better blocking than he had the entirety of 2019... you say these players suck... what's your excuse now?
I don't know about playing well. And Sony had one good game in the last year and we are ready to assume he is going to stop sucking?

That's what's weird is Izzo was a really bad blocker. So why was he getting all the reps. The excuses to keep muzzling the rookie TEs doesn't pass muster
