Exactly where or when has he struggled ?

He has 3 DPI calls on the season where one was total ******** and on the other two he got called for grabbing an arm. Grabbing an arm has been one of his staples through his career. That's why Cooks couldn't bring in the ball in the SB before Harmon hit him.

He did his thing against the Dolphins and Seahawks and got beat once on a perfectly placed ball while being right there in coverage and even getting his arm in while Metcalf was catching it. Apart from that he gives up the occasional slant which is also nothing shocking.
I had the feeling that Gilmore knew he was beaten so he took the DPI to prevent a TD

Me too. The surgery appears to have made him a lethal kicker again.

Yep.. So lethal that he missed 3 of his first 6 FG attempts. Yes, going 6-6 yesterday helped raise his Kick percentage to 75%, but those first 3 misses were brutal. And people would have been calling for him to be cut right away..

I still haven't figured out if burning 3 timeouts with almost a quarter to play was good coaching or bad coaching.

Bad communication on packages which ended up in the wrong personnel being sent onto the field at the wrong time. However, one was on Dugger so I'll ascribe that to rookie confusion.

Too early to draw conclusions but first impressions to me are wild card team that if it gets hot can beat anyone in the postseason. 07 Giants, 12 Ravens style
If we stay healthy, watch out. Def. see a deep playoff run regardless of seeding.

Did you actually watch the kicks or are you just speculating?

Because after watching the kicks, nothing about his mechanics/technique/travel of the ball indicates he's any more "lethal" than he was last season. In fact, basically all of his kicks (but especially the longer ones) looked like they took everything he had to make 'em. The ball wasn't popping off his foot or anything, nor was his technique different.

Looked like the same old Gost to me. Better than Folk? Yeah. Brand new kicker? No way.

I did watch them. His swing looked great. He kicked those three 50+ yard FGs beautifully. Perfect swing, right down the middle, plenty of distance. He has not looked that good in some time. I don't necessarily fault Bill in a way given how iffy hip surgery can be. It just stings bad because our draft pick is on the PS and Folk can only basically kick extra points.

Only week 3 but some of the haves and have-nots of the AFC are coming into sight.

Elite teams: Ravens, Chiefs

Good teams: Pats, Raiders, Titans, Bills, Chargers, Steelers*

Maybe a good team: Colts**, Texans***

The rest - meh.

* Maybe an elite team with that defense but they haven't played anyone good yet
** Beat two terrible teams and lost to the Jags.
*** Texans are 0-3 but they've played by far the hardest schedule to date - Pitt, KC, Bal.

I think the Pats can begin to look up at the elite tier if they can convincingly beat the Chiefs in Arrowhead this weekend

What's your read on the Packers?

A few notes...
1) I want to know why they kicked that touchback with 43 seconds left in the first half. My wife, who doesn't watch or understand football, couldn't understand why I was so upset with that kick. I said, "With 3 timeouts and 43 seconds, they could pick up a field goal". It turned out that they picked up 7. Kick that short and you burn 7-10 more seconds. Dumb move by the coaching staff. I still haven't figured out if burning 3 timeouts with almost a quarter to play was good coaching or bad coaching.

On re-watch, I realized that I had a typo here. There were only 34 seconds! C'mon Bill, you have Bailey kick that short and it burns 7-10 more seconds and that 1st Raiders TD might not have happened.

Given the secondary we have, their QB and the time left what do you think is more likely ? A screw-up on ST that gives them a big return or Carr hitting multiple big plays in a row and score ?

Keep in mind that without preseason games and joined practices the ST unit had no full speed live game reps this offseason/preseason.

I get what you are saying but I can see the logic in what they did. Take away the chance of a big play in a situation (i.e. kick return) that has inherently more randomness and volatility than any normal snap and in exchange give them essentially one more play.

What was great about the game after letting it digest is we looked about as bad as you could in the first quarter. We made adjustments in the second quarter and got up 13-3 until the end of the half bomb by Carr to make it 13-10. We pulled away in the third and it was over by the time the fourth quarter came. That was a systematic take down with great coaching adjustments throughout. This is the level of excellence that makes Patriot football a pleasure to watch week after week. We will compete well with KC.

The Seahawks and Packers have legit Os, imnsho.... but their Ds are suspect.

And I think the Chiefs D is underrated...the biggest difference between them and the old Chiefs is Steve Spagnuolo, who of course ruined our 2007 season. He really has proven to be a great defensive mind.
