Michael Onwenu 6th round pick 182

120 snaps
69 LG
37 RT
14 6th OL

Highest graded rookie (all positions) in NFL PFF.

They may have something. Any draftniks know why he was a late round pick?

This guy might end up being a huge find... When Andrews returns, he might be starting at RT. Our OL is so much stronger this season. Signing Thuney was important - more important than I thought it would be (and I did like it back when).

Was pretty sure I'd read an article about him, and I was right. He's the "burping" guy

That would be crazy because I would think it would be Andrews sitting.

Bedard (and others) had Andrews as the most irreplaceable starter, and one week in it seems like not the case.

EDIT - I see it's right tackle. He played guard yesterday... right?

Maybe you misunderstood : when Andrews returns, he starts at C... I meant the rookie - who's played some RT - replaces the current starter at RT.

Yes I misunderstood.

Jon ledyard had both Onwenu and JJ Taylor on his list.

Has Eluemunor not also been one of the reasons we're run blocking well? I like Onwenu but I don't see a need to bench anyone on the existing line.

I wondered that he contributes this early..not a good sign for Froholdt is it..

Depends on where Froholdt is in the pecking order. Onwenu is OT/OG whereas Froholdt is OG/OC. BB could have Froholdt as the #1 replacement for Mason. We just don't know what the thought process is currently.

I assume you mean if anyone knows why he was a late round pick?

Undersized and had days where his footwork was terrible. That's coachable. For someone who's tipping the scale at 350, footwork is everything. If you can't master it, you might as well be a tractor trailer on bald tires.

He has the power, length, size, and meanness to be a good lineman for a long time. There have been doubts about his speed and ability to pull and block in space, as opposed to in a tight box, so that bears watching. But he is a good interior mauler, inside run blocker, and pass protector against bull-rush type defenders, even as a rookie.

Yeah..i thought he could might see some playing time with Andrews out, but Onwenu played great..I thought he would be either first replacement of Thuney or Andrews and see Onwenu 1 for Mason/RT cause he is a better run blocker which fits RG/RT..
