Thought it looked a bit fragile to start with but got better as the game went on. Cam did what Cam does best.

Pleased to see...

Onwenu and Elumenour perform well at RT , also saw Onwenu on the left so is he the new swing tackle ?
Rivers for his sack and Izzo blocking for most of the snaps and with a good reception
JJ Taylor looks dangerous based on the few plays. Running game looks good and we still have Harris to come back
At first I thought Miami would be more successful running the ball but this did not really threaten
Harry is a big dude and can bully defensive backs still way too early to dump him
A couple of missed tackles but maybe due to lack of pre season action ?
Dont think Byrd was targetted at all

A bit concerned re Edelman's health. I thought he looked a bit laboured when he went for his long run and before he was hit out of bounds , maybe still carrying an injury. Will need to look at the highlights again to see if it was just my imagination.

A good win with a bigger test this week but no reason not to be confident

The Pats were ripping off long runs. I look for JJ Taylor to break one sooner than later.

Not shocked that NE averaged 5 yard a carry after watching domination rushing the ball. Surely Flores knew that NE would bring the ground game, but Miami seemed not prepared for it.

Yuuuge test next. Russell Wilson threw for 300 yards and 4 TDs. Chris Carson is a poor mans Christian Mcafferty.

I don't mind Dugger coming along slowly here after an unusual offseason. Sooner or later he should start.

Hopefully the same goes for Uche as well. The pass rush lacks juice imo so I hope he will get out there in the coming weeks.

He looked remarkably like an NFL TE catching that pass.

And that is a surprise only to people reading this board too much
His main job is on the line though so he will never be a WR TE people only see..

Yeah, don't let the haters colors your perspective. Harry had a good game catching and running the ball. Myers and Byrd did not get a throw.
what I saw was a guy who is improving.

It seems there is only black and white with some people. Him possibly/probably not being a #1 doesn't equal him being cut. In fact I would take any gamble that Harry, unless he gets injured again and his development stalls, will be on this team for a while. He is most likely a #2 imo who will do certain things well and certain things not. If you throw him deep balls, it's not going to work. Short, intermediate routes and screen passes, he can be very successful. Reminds me of Michel in terms of probably overdrafted but a really solid player. If he was a late 2nd/early 3rd round pick, the tone would be different. But then again, even the bust rate for late 1st round picks is high, so getting solid, good players out of it is not the end of the world. For those people comparing him to Cedee, 1) Cedee is more talented in my opinion, 2) more importantly they run a different offense, the Patriots aren't going to throw the ball all that much. The NE fanbase is damaged goods in WR discussions.

Harry doesn't fit the mold of a traditional WR that people want.

One that will end up costing a ton against the cap? That's the funny part, even if he did - he'd be gone for a draft pick before his contract was up because that's not a position the Patriots value for that much $$ against limited cap resources.

Based on recent history their cap spending positions are CB/DB (used to be also QB) and interestingly OL. WR is usually 4th or 5th and pretty steady at that 8-9% rate. Your big spenders at WR (ATL, HOU and CLE for example all at around 13-15% of total cap)...likely not as good in the records of W-L.

In the past he has been absolutely abysmal at blocking to the point that LaCosse played inline blocker over him. So if blocking is his main job we better hope he really leveled up this year. We shall see when 3-4 games are in the books.

The entire math on what is and what is not value might change based on the QB we have and the offense we are running. I'd say be careful using any past trends as indicators for how they will evaluate skill position players now.

One could argue that just by having a mobile QB a legit deep player has suddenly more value because he keeps the defense more honest.

Hopefully Cam can last a whole season taking these beatings
I’d have to think we will see more 5-8 designed runs per game as we move out of the “preseason” part of this season. Otherwise, Cam won’t last the season. Through the air, they were clearly giving him easier, higher percentage throws. To me, it looked like they hadn’t fully installed the offense yet, which doesn’t surprise me since we didn’t have a preseason.

Dugger apparently played 11 snaps and Lazar had this to say about him:

" Lastly, Dugger didn’t have the splash plays the others did. However, his zone drops and awareness both as a robber and deep hole player stood out. He has a much better feel for route combinations and the freedom within his zones than expected. "

Not sure how he managed to see that without the All-22, but I guess that's encouraging. At least he wasn't mentioned at all during the broadcast which is not a bad thing while playing deep as a safety.

Surprised to come on and see so much Harry hate. I thought he improved, actually, silly fumble aside. I want him to be a lot better, but what we saw today was more involvement and something to build on for the year.

I guess he's wearing that "first round pick" albatross among our draftniks. I wish people would stop waiting for TO or Moss to come waltzing through the door, as if generational WR talent falls off trees, or contributes to Super Bowl wins.

Wynn & Elumenor 0 sacks 0 hits 0 pressures

Kyle Van Noy 0 sacks 0 hits 2 pressures

Don't disagree, but I'm not sure outside the QB (a position you have to spend money on) those numbers change hugely - that linked site is great because it shows historical spending as well and you can chart through and see that the percentages don't change a lot over time. Now granted, we had the same QB through all of that which skews it, but the other positions show a pretty steady approach to overall cap allocation.

The better exercise - look at teams like the Saints (also great QB) and what they spend on WRs or Green Bay - also in the 7-9% range. This give credence to the "we cant draft WRs" folks as these other teams are getting better production from that position group for around the same percentage of their cap.
