BGC 2021 TE/PTP Thread

We’ve tend to rely on the TE having a big impact on the success of the team. If it’s the passing game or running game. The only season I can think we didn’t have huge production out of the position was the 07 season, but even then we had Ben Watson making plays if we needed him to.

hopefully Devin and Dalton can be a big impact for us.

Sucks BB never addressed TE situation via draft after the AH fiasco and the question surrounding 87's health...Missed on guys like Kittle, Andrews, and Knox

Dawson Knox was one guy I was gutted about. Thought he was legit and top guy and will be eventually. He just didn’t get the targets in college against AJ Brown and DK.

Kittle was more of a mystery, but BB does have good connections with IOWA so he was another guy they should of looked at.

Andrews I don’t think many thought he’d translate as well as he did coming from that OU scheme where it’s so pass heavy. Thought he’d need an air raid type of scheme to be as successful as he has been. But he’s proven me wrong with the Ravens.

Think we could really do with an overhaul in the scouting department, I know it’s a total crapshoot half the time in the draft but does feel we miss some easy picks at times. Hopefully this years class will be a step in the right direction, not that I’m expecting a lot because of the training camp situation.

Wake is just a SO I believe, don't think he has a RS but he stood out to me. Loved the way he was used. 6'1/250 but again one of the undersized guys that would be great at FB. Lead, in space-stalk blocking, he was fast, physical & making contact all night. Again not eligible but someone to keep an eye on.

*Edit* I want to see the FB/TE hybrid on every team. So many of these guys that aren't big enough for full time TE. Not agile, athletic enough to get serious carries at RB. But they can block, run, catch, versatile and cheap for the most part.

Added him to my watch list the other night, what a grinder he is...Could see him getting drafted as a Senior in '23 as a versatile FB

ISU definitely missed Kolar out there in terms of getting Purdy and the offense going. He was supposed to be a big feature this year.

I know hes not eligible but the league has to start using guys like this more. They change the game. Look at what SF has been able to do off their FB. Get one of these undersized guys who loves getting physical and can catch, run. That's really the best way to use two back sets imo. Anyway I love Wake. ND has a monster as well. He looks great.

If he continues to develop, notre dame may have a mini gronkowski on their hands in Mayer! He is a freshman now, but looks to have a great future.

Agreed he's a bull. I can't wait to see what he looks like 2 years from now. Already one of the best overall TE in the country. There's a few decent ones coming up.

I can not figure out why anyone would think the pen state tight end is a first round draft pick???!

You don't like him? I don't see him testing well. Thinking those rankings will be all over the place

the big tight end from ucf, I like a lot better than the penn state kid. Not sure how the ucf kid will run, but if he runs a 4.7, he needs to be on our draft board!

Very deep and talented TE draft, which means we won’t draft one. I’m kidding, I’d like them to wind up with one of the top 5 TEs, but he has to be explosive.

Thought the two Ohio State TE's Ruckert and Farrell had a decent game v Penn State (both Juniors)

I've liked Farrell for a while, could be a decent/solid pro

The question is ...if you get a top 15 pick...is pitts worth it?

Good point , I would love to have Pitts but I think we could be drafting a DL or LB first ?

No.TE in round one isn't a great idea in general imo. There's like 5-6 that really matter and can change a game. You should be able to get good bang for your buck in rounds 2-4.

Round 1 is for QB, Tackle, DL, DB imo. WR I guess. Top 10 is exclusively for QB or a freak of nature type pick.

I love Pitts but he'll get over-drafted. TE just doesn't move the needle or really translate into big impact right away. You can find similar production and when you look at usage you're always throwing to WR more.
