BGC 2021 TE/PTP Thread

I'll use this thread to discuss & breakdown the upcoming 2021 TE/PTP class.
It looks like a great class. Top heavy with talent and at least rn looks pretty deep. That'll play out how it'll play out but after doing a quick look there's 7-10 really intriguing prospects.
Classic Y-types that can stretch the field. Flex prospects with potential to really ruin a game plan themselves. In between types, Swiss-Army types. Barring big injuries I'd expect 4-5 top 60 guys.
We obviously addressed this position last draft but I see no reason why we can't grab another prospect if the cards are dealt right ... Never know what the future brings. Injuries, players not working out or if they do no reason we can't have 3 good TE ... if things work out.

Let's please keep it on topic (2021 TE-PTP) only. Write, ask questions, ponder thoughts about the class. Just please keep it on topic.

I'll create a Pats Big Board as we get closer to the fall and football is actually upon us.

Kyle Pitts

Match-up nightmare. Lined 400+/700 inline - He's a weapon. Slot. Backfield. Wide. Detached. Motion. You can line him up anywhere. Could be a real problem out backfield/slot bc of space to work. He's an easy mover. Generates some decent pick up and is a 6'6/240 problem most DB's don't want and Lbs just can't keep up with him.

Big time potential out wide if he continues to improve his hand usage and ability to get off the line/press. Pitts will utilize his length with a stab to create some space. Swim and swipe to clear his man. Loves using the swim. Will try to get low & dip around his man. Very impressive. You love to see the effort and aggression. This is really nice to see from a guy this young, this raw.

Smooth mover for 6'5/6'6. Eats up yards with long powerful strides. LB & DB will have trouble bc his speed, length & physicality at the catch point at times. Has shown the ability to catch through contact. Physical, tough to bring down.

At times catches away from his body extending arms out making a big target. Hands look solid. Looks the part as a game wrecker if healthy and keeps on with this trajectory. I can't wait to see how he looks going forward. He has a really good QB to work with and will be featured so he'll be a big name next year for sure. 100%

Big time potential on all 3 levels, all over the field. Has the shake to make you miss in short area. Quick/speed & body to win in the intermediate/deep. Like I said above some decent burst/juice

Could be a little sharper on some routes but looks clean at times. Big body creates natural separation. Could be very tough up the seam, crossers. Once he really understands this game he could be a very good player.

Ahead of the game in a lot of key areas. Understand leverage, + hand usage & versatility. Potential yac monster. Knows how to separate off line, in route. Love to see him work that natural separation-length off leverage reads

If he improves his rr, hands & blocking, even slightly. He'll be a top 25-40 pick. I can't wait to see what he looks like after last year in terms of physical development.

Swim move to clear. Sweet lil subtle push off at the end. Dude can handle himself. Big boy. Very impressive.

Pat Freiermuth

+Blocker inline. Strong, active hands. Big time worker. Like him in space as well. Has the speed and quicks to really get on his man. Get to spot. Easy mover for someone who weighs 255-260. Definitely can use him out the backfield for blocking and rec. Wants to beat his man. + Effort.

Doesn't look like he has any hops but athleticism is there. Reminds me a Pita/Andrews/Heap 2.0 type. I think he'll test well in some areas but not others if he doesn't skip them. Has good short area quicks, straight line speed, cod. Again athleticism is there but doesn't look like a super athlete. We'll see.

Definitely someone that could make big time noise. He does so many things well. His versatility will get him picked top 60 for sure imo. He's been on the right track and very close to NFL ready.

+ Hands. Reliable. Strong paws. Can stretch out. Catch through contact/traffic. Makes himself big for targets. Small when it's called for. Really on point with his QB. It's obvious he's a smart, hard working prospect from the timing that's there between them.

Brevin Jordan

Love his attitude & approach. Wants to fight, compete & set a tone. Big time effort & attitude.

Solid blocker could/should improve. Size will always limit some but he's got what he needs to be a + blocker for his size & eventually the player he'll be. He brings the fight and doesn't shy away. Really gets on top of his man even if he's not entirely sure what to do after initial contact. I like his potential here though.

Solid hands that get and invite the ball. Fights for it when its in the air. Has the dog mentality.

Doesn't want to go down easy. Again size will limit some but he's a feisty dude that wants to go forward. Will crash into players for extra yards.

Quick, good speed but also like his lateral movements & cod. Reminds me of an Engram/Irv Smith. Or that mold.

Jordan is a mover though. He's a problem and the reason why you see a ton of 230-240 LBs nowadays. You have to be able to run to keep up with him and have to wrap up or give him a good lick before he's down.

I mean we obviously have to wait n see but I'll say no. 2021 Will be deeper, clearly more skilled up top.

I thought 2020 went as planned and didn't see a ton of depth tbh.

That's definitely the plan. Have Asiasi become a full time Y. Keene as flex. Hopefully add another big piece. Idk there are a few nice options for that spot. If Pitts keeps on progressing and Keene is a good flex that could be a nasty trio as well.

Looks like a pretty decent class though. Georgia, Iowa, Wisconsin all should be represented. McKitty, Kolar, Ruckert all could break out. I'm excited about this group. Wouldn't be surprised to see it as one of the stronger classes next year.

Honestly though, I can’t see Belichick using another high pick on a TE for a while.

Jordan Reid was talking about him being discovered at a camp playing QB. Converted him and he got offers on the spot. Only 19 I believe.
He's really just learning the position and wins a lot with size, length & athleticism. Just looks and moves different. Good luck if everything comes together.

These guys can't give it up. It's amazing. I'd never let my son play football but how do you ignore this type of passion? The energy, dedication to the sport. Loyalty & commradiere with player's/coaches ....

I just hope it ends well for him. I'm not a doctor by any means but you get the feeling so many of these guys are living on the edge through diet, workout/training, contact/hits ...

Again I hope it just ends well. Definitely rooting for him. I'd love to see him running around next level.

I'm still going after one of these big shots if I get the chance. Top Tier looks like borderline 1st/middle-late 1st at their peak rn. Looks like it could be a solid group tho.

I'd love to see Asiasi take over the traditional inline/Y role with his size & blocking. Keane be the mismatch but I actually believe he could be a full-time inline as well in a year or two.

Then add one of these guys and hopefully not worrying about the position for 3-4 years. That be nice.
