Harry looks quicker

As was mentioned, he had a tremendous rookie season and he did help us win a Super Bowl...so...?
I get some people would have preferred Chubb but while hindsight is always 20/20, Michel has been a pretty solid pick up...
Nick Chubb was the better prospect then, and is the better player now...so...?
With Brady gone I expect him to get more of a look in the passing game. Say what you want but the guy is pretty good in the open field when he has the football...
You mean the same passing game in which he has been a failure so far?
If he can get more involved, it would certainly change things as defenses would hopefully no longer be able to key on the run, which is essentially one of the biggest problems (along with the offensive line injuries) he had last season.
That, and the whole going down on first contact thingy...

I'm sure the coaching staff had their reasoning for passing on him. Again, hindsight is 20/20 and everyone would probably make a change if being able to predict the future was possible.

I feel like part of that might have been on Brady. One drop or miscue, and he would shut them off and I wonder how big of a part that actually played with a few of these guys, especially last season. I haven't seen him that short-tempered since 2013. I'm honestly really, really curious to see if a couple of these guys look different with Stidham under center. I wrote something about it recently with Meyers but I'm definitely wondering if we see a difference from a couple players this season from that standpoint.

Offensive line was bad last season. They had a string of injuries that they just couldn't overcome. There were others aside from Michel who were stopped before they ever got started. And take a look at how Michel performed at the second level and in space. I think you might find he's a little better than you might think.

Harry's 2 catches on 7 targets in the playoff loss is a terrible sign. He's got to be at over 2/3 catches to throws ratio.

the only way that ratio will be achieved is if he can beat coverage off the line of scrimmage!

Yeah they aren’t the same player and Jules is more slot...but really he should be helping Harry out with some moves at the line. Jules has got the moves.

I wonder if the patriots will expand Harry’s route tree this year. He currently runs only a few routes and he has terrible trouble separating on those!

could he have more success if he ran more routes of the route tree?

if you have general trouble to get seperation more routes doesn't make you run the routes better or getting more seperation, he has to improve on that matter anyway if he wants to be successful in the NFL

however I am with you if you were talking about picking routes and designed routes to get him some extra separation by design, which NE is anyway doing, curious to see how it plays out this year and if Harry can take the next step..

More worried about the new emoticon RLKAG.. finally figured it out.

The Harry discussion is probably more appropriate in December than now..

"Separation" is one of the most overrated fan myths out there.

Gronk got separation from linebackers trying to cover him, defensive backs simply weren't big, strong or tall enough to cover him. The same goes for WR's.

Mike Evans wins because he's 6'5" 230 pounds, has a 37" vertical leap and a wingspan like a pterodactyl. He has good mobility/agility for his size but most #1 corners are faster and quicker... it doesn't seem to matter though does it.

Most receivers get incredibly wide open due to broken coverages, not amazing separation ability. In the NFL separation can be a matter of inches.

If a defense knows a WR has a limited number of routes wouldn’t it be easier to cover him if you had a general idea what those routes are from tape ? Now give that same WR more routes and it’s suddenly more difficult to cover him because of A) the unexpected routes were not on tape B) more route options creates more of a challenge to cover. It’s like telegraphing a run with a fullback in the game...but if he can also catch then that versatility makes defensive decisions before and after snap more challenging.

I think he ran a limited number of routes last year because he missed a large portion of the season where the basics are established. Then he came back to a QB that was also hurt and couldn't take all the #1 reps in practice. There were only so many plays Brady was going to be comfortable running with the kid. I think more routes this year should be expected. Whether it leads to more success is complicated, because it also depends on how good the guy throwing him the ball ends up being.

It's a new season and I think we'll surprise people, even some of our own fans...

every route on the route tree has different break points. Just because a defensive back can latch on and ride Harry during the 4 or 5 routes he runs, does not mean that he couldn’t use his size to break away different routes.

we will not get an answer until we see Harry on the field.

Healthy Harry
