Don't put Parcells in the Patriots Hall of Fame.

All the more reason not to go bombs away on offense and grind them out on the ground. Parcells didn’t do that.

We started catching up when we started pounding it. So of course we started just airing it out again after that despite the fact that GB clearly didn't have an answer for Curtis and our running game.

I am no big fan of Parcells but suggesting he "threw the game" is absurd. I don't think some in here understand the weight of that statement.

Was he distracted prior to the game, negotiating with the Jets and already had one foot out the door? Yes. Absolutely. But let's be real: The Packers were far and away the best team in the NFL that year. The Patriots weren't even the best team in the AFC. GB was favored by 14 and they won by 14.

The better team won and it was no one’s fault.

I got two words to say about Bill Parcells: Curtis Martin.

Noticing your avatar. Aren't on the wrong fan site?

I don't know.

Time heals all wounds....or so the saying goes..

No Parcells = No credibility...and maybe we draft Rick Mirer instead....and maybe Kraft never meets Belichick who was a consultant on the '96 team.

I am thankful that we had the Parcells era.

As for the Pats HOF...not sure....I think we should talk about other coaches like Fairbanks and Berry first....

I’m thankful we had Parcells as well...along with Kraft and Bledsoe. We had a good team then and provided Hope for us long suffering Pats fans. I feel they helped move the Pats in the right direction. And no...no Parcells for Patriots Hall of Fame. IMO he was mostly to blame for the SB loss.

Before he arrived the NEP were a pathetic laughingstock.
Please stop subscribing to total bullsh*t propaganda.

You are describing - and obviously falsely agreeing with - the opinions of media, opponents and people who know and care nothing about the New England Patriots - like Orthwein.

The Sullivan ownership financial house of cards took many years to finally collapse - with Billy & Kiam trying to move the franchise to Jacksonville, in the end - and its ownership follies are well documented.

The team was NEVER a laughingstock. That would be the Giants, Steelers, Packers, 49ers, and now Raiders, Browns and Cowboys each with stretches of futility a quarter century and longer.

Three (3) lousy seasons from 1990-1992 were totally predictable because there was no quarterback. It's stupider because Kiam HAD a generational superior young winner who was also a local hometown hero. With Flutie the Patriots at least make the playoffs.

Pats fans who fall for the 'laughingstock' lie keep trying to make three seasons into 25 years.

The Celtics in 1978-79 were lousy but NOT a laughingstock. Only their owner was.

4 years as coach..... NEP HOF ?

32-32 record.......NEP HOF ?

Lost his defecto GM job after 2 years to Bobby Grier.......NEP HOF ?

Out of one side of his mouth he takes credit for NE signings but out of the other side he moans about not being able to shop for the groceries.... NEP HOF?

His apologists claim he deserves credit for creating NE’s foundation for later success.
“Later” happens to be defined as 5 years and two coaches later. RUFKM

His apologists argue NE should be grateful he brought BB to the franchise. Using this train of thought, I guess Kraft should enshrine Belichick’s agent as well.

Funny how BB, Parcells’ gift to NE, came with shackle bruises and a price tag of a 1st round pick.

Then there’s Fat Tuna’s traitorous Neville Chamberlain re-enactment during NE’s most significant week in more than a decade.
“Let’s celebrate the traitor who fu*%ed this franchise over” ..... NEP HOF?

I don’t get the loyalty to this guy. Fat Tuna was an opportunist extraordinaire who had a nice run with Bledsoe and then sniffed out a better paying gig with the biggest rival.
The endless media song is "If not for Parcells"

Some quick shots of old friends in this one: Ringo, Klaus, Leon & Billy

If not for Ron Meyer

We would not have had Scar around

If not for Chuck Fairbanks

Ernie Adams would not have had a career in football

If not for Billy Sullivan

There would never have been a New England Patriots

If not for Ted Marchibroda

Bill Belichick would have been washing dishes after college

If not for Donald Trump

Doug Flutie would never have had a starting pro job in the U.S. which wasn't yanked out from under him on the brink of success

Yes

No.

They were very good. Smart. Opportunistic. Better than the Patriots.

But not far and away. Hand the ball to Martin, as the 'Skins did with Riggins vs. the Dolphins, and the result could very well have been different.

And Mike Holovak.

If you think the NEP from 1990 to 1992 weren't a pathetic laughingstock you would be wrong.

I’d have to agree that it was the arrival of Drew that got this franchise off the mat more than anything Parcells did.

They had the #1 offense in the league, the #1 defense in the league, and a point differential that was almost 100 point better than the next best team. And this was during a time period when the NFC had won 12 Super Bowls in a row.

He deserves to be in.... Let your anger go.. he brought credibility to the team... You want **** MacPherson in there?

He was a hell of a drafter and he turned teams around... He didn't stick around long but he won where he went

Parcells was anti-Patriots. If he had had his way, this franchise would have been an inept laughing stock. He stole Curtis Martin and undermined the Kraft’s due to his enormous ego. His heart and soul never bled Patriots blood so he doesnt deserve to be in our HOF. Its really that simple. He belongs in the Giants HOF, not ours...

Yet the game was nevertheless competitive.

Triple the carries given to Martin. Put a muzzle on Eason. Number 11. I mean, Drew.

Now, beyond that, do the f*cking obvious and do not let Adam under any circumstances kick off to Howard and...the NFC's dominance ends only one year earlier than it did.

Then I am correct about 19 other NFL teams being worse pathetic laughingstocks because they were worse than that and for much longer periods of time.

The New England Patriots of 2002-2005 are a pathetic laughingstock as well if Brady is benched mid season in '01 and then released.

Yeah, I'd say it was a little bit of a distraction all the way around. I can tell you first-hand; there was a lot of stuff going on prior to the game. I mean, him talking to other teams. He (Parcells) was trying to make up his mind about what he was going to do. Which, honestly, I felt was totally inappropriate. How many chances do you get to play for the Super Bowl? Tell them to get back to you in a couple of days. I'm not saying it was disrespectful to me, but it was in terms of the overall commitment to the team.”
- BB on Parcells and the week leading up to the Super Bowl

Yeah. Keep him out.

What's the argument for Parcells to get in ahead of Raymond Berry?

Never mind Berry, what about Fairbanks. He did an amazing job. He left under difficult circumstances also but no where near as despicable as Parcells.

No coach should go in the NEP HOF until Chuck Fairbanks goes in first...

What disqualifies Parcells from being worthy is obvious.

Berry was outstanding with one, horrible, terrible exception:

Starting and playing Eason in Super Bowl XX. And a year later in Denver. And in 1988 in Week 15.

The big black (sorry) mark for Holovak is described by @jmt57 :

Walter Beach was drafted by the Giants in 1960, then signed with the Patriots early in their inaugural season. He played in 18 games for the Pats with one interception. Beach also played a bit on offense (with nine receptions and six carries) and on special teams (seven kickoff returns and one punt return). Beach had one touchdown with the Pats, a 51 yard reception from Butch Songin against the Chargers. Walter Beach also spent four seasons with the Cleveland Browns and was a starting corner on that team's last NFL championship, in 1964.

Beach grew up two houses from a civil rights lawyer named Milton Henry and his family. Fast forward a bit, to a 1962 preseason game in New Orleans that led to the Patriots cutting Beach:

He had been released by the Boston Patriots of the American Football League the previous year, after he organized a protest by the black players on the team against segregated accommodations in New Orleans, where Boston was scheduled to play a preseason game. While the white Patriots were set to stay in a luxury hotel, the black players were to stay with black families.

“I told them we signed up to play football, not to be segregated against,” Beach said. He told Mike Holovak, the Patriots’ coach at the time, that he would fly down the day of the game and then fly back to Boston after the game was over.

Identified as a troublemaker, Beach was cut the next day.
