It’s still not a virus that kills young or healthy people like the Spanish flu did. Even if 25% of the population caught it like the Spanish flu it’s not as bad as the Spanish flu.
So let's decide what you're basing that on, because somebody probably has to make this call when the ventilators get scarce and you're deciding who gets one.
Since young people have more years of life left to them if they don't die of this, and since chances are better they'll survive, all else being equal:
if there is 1 ventilator, and there is a 60 year old and a 20 year old, all else being equal, put the 20 year old on a vent and let the 60 year old die?
Go ahead and answer if you want. I am pretty sure that's the right call for my money. Know what the wing nuts called it when Zeke Emanuel wrote a paper on these medical ethical questions? "Death panels."

you need that reminder, I'm saying wake TF up people, when the **** hits the fan, somebody has to make these calls somehow. Hate to say it, but the youngster gets the vent. And as great as I think I am, he should get his turn on the ride even if mine has to peter out.
However: Your "it's just old people" rap is really getting on my last nerve, being an old person married to an old person. No, it's not okay to lose a few hundred thousand (or million) people if they're old anyway. Fercristsake.

Not related to either of these posts, the latest numbers on new deaths and infections in NY:

Hey look, a couple of days of downticks, not just to new cases but to daily deaths. I wouldn't get too excited about the new cases being lower -- that could just be working through the backlog of people who need tests.
But the daily new deaths actually declined. Granted, we're still in a sensitive chunk of the curve... where small deviations ("clumps in the data") can look like trends... but I'll take a 2-day apparent improvement over the alternative. Maybe it's reflecting that 2 or 3 weeks ago people reached a new level of concern & resulting social distancing.
By the way, Rand Paul is positive. He's got a preexisting lung problem from that time his neighbor kicked his ass. We're all God's chilluns and I guess grrrr I have to beam out healing messages to the universe.
