Brady gone

No the point most are missing here is if he so special at this point why didn’t every team that could use his services bust down the door trying to sign him? Wasn’t exactly a stampede of teams throwing themselves at him.
He is special in the short term, not long term. Teams have to be willing to go all in now for the short term, not long term and/or want to put fans in the seats. As a team, Tampa is ideal for Brady in terms of offensive talent if not in terms of location. Not every team is willing to do that or has the pieces in place for it to make sense.

Was well known information. Need to follow Miguel.
Followers knew for ages that if TFB was not signed by the Pats by the 4PM Wednesday deadline (could be off, from memory) cap hit doubled to $13.5 dead money.

Bad planning then. $13.5m for TB and $4.5m for AB. Expenses we could do without.

The AB fiasco aside, the Brady cap conundrum was cast in stone when for whatever reasons only a one year deal got done in trying camp last year. Had BB been willing to go longer term with the aging QB, we'd be looking at re-tooling around TB again.
It's fair to say that despite nuances, Tom has really exceeded most folks' expectations for a player his age. He takes care of himself well off season, really works diligently on pliability (jokes aside) and the league has helped with it's "Don't hurt the QB" rules.

Yup, 48 hours later...I have decided this:

"Rocky V" never happened, right?

I am just going to pretend that Brady retired.....and look forward to us retiring his jersey at the Pats HOF in 3 years. I am going to pretend the Bucs QB is just some dude.....

I am on board with this. Build the statue.

Brady to the Bucs is barely 24 hours old, and isn't even officially done yet, but you're still arguing incredibly stupid points such as this one in bold. Give it a rest.

Idk if it’s sour grapes on the guy’s part or I just don’t know. The funny thing about brady is that his numbers are not that far off from aaron Rodgers. Brady just threw 4 more interceptions.

If I'm Gisele I get REALLY concerned about the 'bromance' if Edelperson goes to Tamper.

Does anyone else think a James White trade to Tampa makes a lot of sense? I don't know about Edelman...White fits the profile though. Maybe a year, two tops left at a high level, and the Patriots prefer to go on the cheap and by rookie deals.

And having brady read at the LOS automatically helps.
Sure, if the other 10 guys are making the same reads.

I wish TB12 well in Tampa and am looking forward to watching him play, but it won't be an automatic fit.

It'll be interesting to see how well the younger players used to Winston will take to being held accountable by a man old enough to be their father.

I'm not saying it won't happen, but I am saying some of the players on his offense may not be able to do what TB12 wants them to do and may get iced out, or may not be happy about being held accountable.

Also it seems TB12 will be the offensive coordinator in all but name only. I think he will want/try to get some former NE coaches already up to speed on the system to come to Tampa, otherwise I don't see how there are enough hours in the day for TB12 alone to change their offense to a new system.

Nah man. You said you were out yet here you still are. I think I will keep going.

From what I read the Pats offered him 25 Million a year and the Chargers offered him the same as Tampa which was 30 million as well. There were places he could have gone but he chose Tampa.
And from what I read the Pats offered far lower than 25 million per year.

I’m not a all hysterical about the Pats. I’m upset about what a sh*t show this site has become over the past week because of those posters whose Patriots love was seemingly lost entirely once Brady announced that he was gone (and those who always bash BB and who are now like pigs in the slop). I usually enjoy coming to this site but many of the posts over the past couple of days have just been just over-the-top negative and, often, irrational about the organization and BB in particular. The reality is that the Pats could be making moves that were being praised across the NFL as genius and many here would still wouldn't be happy bc their soon-to-be 43 year-old superstar QB and the team mutually decided that it was time to move on.

He's gone, boys. It's time to start rooting for the Pats to retool and configure a roster that will allow them to be competitive again. I have faith that BB has a plan, because he has been planning for 2020 for the past three offseasons. It may not be fully realized next year and we spoiled Pats fans may have to suffer through a 9-7 season but IMO we'll be back in the hunt soon. Stidham is no sure bet to be a franchise QB but I don't know how you can't be a least a little optimistic about what you saw last preseason, along with quotes from some of the vet defensive players that faced him in practice. He got a lot more reps that a typical Pats rookie vs the 1s on D bc they had to manage Brady's reps in practice (BB stated this to the press), so they probably have a better idea of how he may project as a starter than they normally would. They will add a vet backup and probably a draft pick but will prob give Stidham the first crack at it. I much prefer that to Dalton or Newton.

BB and co. know the strengths and holes in the roster better than anyone, so I'm sure that they will makes moves accordingly. Once they either resign (likely) or trade Thuney and restructure contracts (hightower, Gilmore, Chung, Cannon) or reduce cap hits and maybe cut a vet or two (Gost, Cannon), they will have the space to make more significant moves.

I'm not happy with the current roster either but I'm willing to wait to see the final product before making a judgement about 2020. You all should really get over the Brady loss and do the same. The best case scenario is for both the Pats and Brady to succeed next year, assuming that there will be football in 2020.

I am 46-years-old and have been a die-hard fan since I started watching with my dad starting at the age of 5 or 6. I watched every game during the lean years of Hugh Millen and Tommy Hodson and listened to every game on the radio when the games were blacked out. There was football before Brady (some here may not know that) and there will be football after Brady and the post Brady era will be a hell of a lot better than what some of us endured in the past. Those of you who now hate Kraft and BB for not giving Brady 25+ million to stay and think that maybe, in retrospect, BB has been a just an average coach and a below average GM during this entire 20 run of greatness and it was all Brady and maybe even secretly are rooting for the Pats to tank next year so that you can type “I told you this would happen!” can f*ck right off and go root for another team.

So, no, I am not hysterical about the Patriots. I remain optimistic and am willing to be patient until I see what the final roster looks like. What I am hysterical about are many of the posters and the fake fans here.
You don't understand man. Stop it.

I can't.

F U man. You don't understand. The pain.

I was just going to say this. He isn’t as much of a draw anymore. Who are these great FA that are heading to Tampa to play with Tampa?
Please let me know what position on offense Tampa needs to fill with free agents. They already have what is most likely the best wide receiver duo in the entire league. They have a 2 good TEs and OK running backs. They have a good interior O-Line and in every mock draft, even before Brady agreed to go to TB, they are expected to select one of the top offensive tackles in the draft. So they just don't have a lot of glaring holes on offense other than QB. If they end up signing a guy like Sanders that will be a very, very tough offense to stop. On defense they have some holes, but defensive players don't sign with a team because of the QB. And most free agents sign for the money, not because of the other players.

Why do people act like Tampa was a place Brady chose? He didn’t have many options. There’s this imaginary world people seem to be living in where half the teams were willing to throw giant wads of cash at Tom to be their QB.

Brady went to Tampa because that was the only place that wanted to pay him.
That's just not true. Brady's past FA history proves otherwise. He wasn't interested in any team not interested in him.

BTW, for him to get a deal at 30 mil a year is pretty amazing. Brees is only getting 25 at age 41. Rivers is only getting 25 at age 38. I mean Brady will be in the top 10-15 percent of the league for salaries at 43. That is other wordly. Never been done. Probably will never be done again.
Man you just gutted @ViperGTS he's going to hate this post.

So no deal in TB because Dallas is in the mix now? They didn't think Brady was serious about leaving but now they know he is, they can rescind franchise tag on Dak and give Brady his $25M a year for 2 in Dallas. That would be a bigger bang for Brady than going to the backwater TB. Works for Brady as will be incredibly in spotlight, solid team
