Brady gone

A lot if sh*tty teams have a ton of cap space bc of their sh*tty rosters (1 to 53). That’s how it works in most years. Great organizations (NE, Balt, Pitt, NO) have relatively little cap space bc their rosters are put together to allow them to complete every year. Sh*tty teams also tend to have a few elite players bc their sh*ttiness allows them to draft in the top 10 most years.

It is lucky that being a whiney b*tch is not an independent risk factor for contracting COVID-19 because 85% of the Patsfans.com posters as currently constituted would have to live in an isolation bubble to protect themselves. The only reason to come to the site at this point is for the latest transaction news bc most of the discussions are insufferable. Currently, the site is mostly just a big “Brady is gone, how is life as a Pats fan worth living?” support group and, frankly, it’s pathetic to watch a prolonged first stage of the grieving process.

Nobody is more upset in this thread, and in other threads, than you. You continue to type paragraphs and paragraphs about how you don't like that people are sad, but it's pretty clear that you're even more hysterical than those people.

Funny how Tampa has all this money and all these good receivers in place while the Pats have borderline XFL level talent at receiver.

Tampas been drafting much higher, and consistently, so they've had more chances to hit on talent. NE can't evaluate wide receivers for ****, so all the quality ones are free agents.

Tampa allotted a bunch of cap to give Brady a solid offensive arsenal, while NE couldn't really do much due to certain contracts, and the fact they've done absolutely nothing for drafting wide receivers since Edelman.

Easy to see why Tampa was a good option for Brady, but most of thats due to Tampa being bad, combined with NE being unable to identify/nurture talented WR. In the end, Tampa is all in on the win within the next two years, which is Bradys window before retirement.

Absurd.

Players join teams to a) make money and b) to win.
Where do I say players don't play for money or to win? All I said is they came to win because of Brady.

...and I disagreed with your, "They come here b/c of Tom and not BB" assertion by saying players join teams because of money and to win.

Well Schefter is reporting that TB is getting an unexpected amount of interest in free agency. Must be all the money and wins they have lying around

Of course offensive players want to play with Tom....because he has a track record of winning.

So does BB.

Fat Thor left TB for NE so...

Yes. That is the benefit of being the GOAT with the most wins and also being a complete team guy and leader. Not to mention all the young players grew up idolizing him so why not play with him? The Bucs will have their pick of FAs. Will probably be their most entertaining off-season ever.

I still think defensive players will want to come and play for BB but we will have a tough sell on the offensive side until we have a proven QB. Losing Scar really hurts too as OLs wanted to come and play for him too.

I’m not a all hysterical about the Pats. I’m upset about what a sh*t show this site has become over the past week because of those posters whose Patriots love was seemingly lost entirely once Brady announced that he was gone (and those who always bash BB and who are now like pigs in the slop). I usually enjoy coming to this site but many of the posts over the past couple of days have just been just over-the-top negative and, often, irrational about the organization and BB in particular. The reality is that the Pats could be making moves that were being praised across the NFL as genius and many here would still wouldn't be happy bc their soon-to-be 43 year-old superstar QB and the team mutually decided that it was time to move on.

He's gone, boys. It's time to start rooting for the Pats to retool and configure a roster that will allow them to be competitive again. I have faith that BB has a plan, because he has been planning for 2020 for the past three offseasons. It may not be fully realized next year and we spoiled Pats fans may have to suffer through a 9-7 season but IMO we'll be back in the hunt soon. Stidham is no sure bet to be a franchise QB but I don't know how you can't be a least a little optimistic about what you saw last preseason, along with quotes from some of the vet defensive players that faced him in practice. He got a lot more reps that a typical Pats rookie vs the 1s on D bc they had to manage Brady's reps in practice (BB stated this to the press), so they probably have a better idea of how he may project as a starter than they normally would. They will add a vet backup and probably a draft pick but will prob give Stidham the first crack at it. I much prefer that to Dalton or Newton.

BB and co. know the strengths and holes in the roster better than anyone, so I'm sure that they will makes moves accordingly. Once they either resign (likely) or trade Thuney and restructure contracts (hightower, Gilmore, Chung, Cannon) or reduce cap hits and maybe cut a vet or two (Gost, Cannon), they will have the space to make more significant moves.

I'm not happy with the current roster either but I'm willing to wait to see the final product before making a judgement about 2020. You all should really get over the Brady loss and do the same. The best case scenario is for both the Pats and Brady to succeed next year, assuming that there will be football in 2020.

I am 46-years-old and have been a die-hard fan since I started watching with my dad starting at the age of 5 or 6. I watched every game during the lean years of Hugh Millen and Tommy Hodson and listened to every game on the radio when the games were blacked out. There was football before Brady (some here may not know that) and there will be football after Brady and the post Brady era will be a hell of a lot better than what some of us endured in the past. Those of you who now hate Kraft and BB for not giving Brady 25+ million to stay and think that maybe, in retrospect, BB has been a just an average coach and a below average GM during this entire 20 run of greatness and it was all Brady and maybe even secretly are rooting for the Pats to tank next year so that you can type “I told you this would happen!” can f*ck right off and go root for another team.

So, no, I am not hysterical about the Patriots. I remain optimistic and am willing to be patient until I see what the final roster looks like. What I am hysterical about are many of the posters and the fake fans here.

While I do not blame either BB or TB for this outcome, it feels awful.
Tom's dad was so right when he said "it won't end well".

It didn't end well, but it didn't end badly either. It just went out with a puff- ended with a whimper instead of a bang.

I have to confess that this was the last thing I'd think would happen to cap 20 glorious seasons.

There is no question having Tom at QB was a major selling point. Winning. Playing with GOATness, etc.

For fans to imply that was the ONLY reason other players came to NE is flat-out wrong.

Probably best to let people have their emotional space and just take a break from the boards for a little while.

I agree. What I am wondering about is how BBs approach to the cap and team building will be affected. He likes to build his team to be strong 1-53 so we have a lot of mid-level contracts and few high end. He always had the benefit of Brady to help cover deficiencies on the roster AND make guys take less to play with him. That is the part I am worried about. Will his team building approach get comprised without an elite QB? I guess we will find out soon.

The more I think about it the more it feels it was time. Dude is 43 soon and the end could come at any time. He had nothing more to prove here and the Pats don’t owe him anything.

The QB position has also changed in this league. Mobility is where it’s at now, like a Mahomes, Wilson or Jackson. Time to evolve.

The reaction is completely normal and to be expected and it will resolve with time.

Tom has been a big part of Pats fans rooting lives for 20 years. It really felt like he was almost like a member of our football family. It does feel like he has "passed on". The 5 stages of grief after a loss are Denial Anger Bargaining Depression Acceptance. Many fans on this board are somewhere between Anger and Depression. In another month most will have accepted it.
I can see how some would find these reactions "over the top", but I really think its completely normal.

Its a legitimate concern.

BB and Tom have said 1000 times you need to learn how to not lose a football game before you know how to win one.

Having Tom be a part of ~80 snaps a game to help make those decisions was absolutely huge.

Quarterbacking is all about decisions. Calling protections, reads, audibles, etc

Tom has forgotten more about football than Stidham knows.

The only chance the NEP have at a winning record is an accelerated learning curve to game management, keeping the boo-boos to a minimum and making a handful of plays a game that keep the team competitive.

Why do people act like Tampa was a place Brady chose? He didn’t have many options. There’s this imaginary world people seem to be living in where half the teams were willing to throw giant wads of cash at Tom to be their QB.

Brady went to Tampa because that was the only place that wanted to pay him.

Aka back to 01-05 Pats. Not like they don’t have a coach that has experienced that.

To be fair it was them and the Chargers. Still not many.

Add San Diego. But your point is valid.
