Brady gone

Aka back to 01-05 Pats. Not like they don’t have a coach that has experienced that.
06 too.

NFL is a bit different now but football is football.

Add San Diego. But your point is valid.
...and IIRC Adam Humphries cited on of the reasons he did not want NE was because of Tom's age. We all know that wasn't THE reason but by him stating it publicly it was part of his thought process.

My guess is the D knows more about what Stidham has than even the O. May have played a factor in his decision.

I was just going to say this. He isn’t as much of a draw anymore. Who are these great FA that are heading to Tampa to play with Tampa?

Brady costing $13.5m in dead money. I thought the contract was set up so either party could walk away and it would be done. Wasn’t expecting the cap hit.

Very subtle issue. My question who set it up like this?

There is no question having Tom at QB was a major selling point. Winning. Playing with GOATness, etc.

For fans to imply that was the ONLY reason other players came to NE is flat-out wrong.

I remember reading here a year or 2 back that certain offensive players declined considering New England because they thought Tom Brady was too old.

Flash forward to 2020 and...

EDIT: ninjad by post #1303

Why do people act like Tampa was a place Brady chose? He didn’t have many options. There’s this imaginary world people seem to be living in where half the teams were willing to throw giant wads of cash at Tom to be their QB.

Brady went to Tampa because that was the only place that wanted to pay him.
Because he did choose it? LOL. He only needed one team to want him that he wanted to play for and Tampa was it and from reports he pretty much got everything he wanted - money, years, better roster, offensive HC, warm weather, close to NY. It really does not matter whether 20 teams were interested or 2. He found a place he is very happy with.

It’s smoke an mirrors. Probably a Tampa source trying to get people even more excited.

Was well known information. Need to follow Miguel.
Followers knew for ages that if TFB was not signed by the Pats by the 4PM Wednesday deadline (could be off, from memory) cap hit doubled to $13.5 dead money.

No the point most are missing here is if he so special at this point why didn’t every team that could use his services bust down the door trying to sign him? Wasn’t exactly a stampede of teams throwing themselves at him.

I think a lot of that was the media trying to tie him to every single team. The only really viable teams were LA, Tampa and the Raiders. I mean he is going to be 43 so it had to be a team that was ready to go all in for 2 seasons.

BTW, for him to get a deal at 30 mil a year is pretty amazing. Brees is only getting 25 at age 41. Rivers is only getting 25 at age 38. I mean Brady will be in the top 10-15 percent of the league for salaries at 43. That is other wordly. Never been done. Probably will never be done again.

People were right about patriots fan absolutely bull **** that been said in here about Brady

Sour grapes + sometimes toxic levels of homerism = this board pretty much whenever a player leaves.

The more I think about it the more it feels it was time. Dude is 43 soon and the end could come at any time. He had nothing more to prove here and the Pats don’t owe him anything.

The QB position has also changed in this league. Mobility is where it’s at now, like a Mahomes, Wilson or Jackson. Time to evolve.

"The end could come at any time" has been true since 2001. "We all know about Tom's age and contract status" was back in 2014. I know that people feel a need to try rationalizing what happened, but age isn't why Brady's not in New England. Tom's been kicking age's ass for the better part of a decade.

As for the mobility nonsense, well, that's all that is.

Brady had multiple teams willing to meet his price, and he chose the Bucs.

From what I read the Pats offered him 25 Million a year and the Chargers offered him the same as Tampa which was 30 million as well. There were places he could have gone but he chose Tampa.

Brady to the Bucs is barely 24 hours old, and isn't even officially done yet, but you're still arguing incredibly stupid points such as this one in bold. Give it a rest.

Yup and I’m tired of the Pats are back to the 70s Pats. He’s gone. He wanted to be gone. It was time. Now, let’s see what Bill has up his sleeve. I’m sure he is excited as all hell. New challenges and all.

How much you wanna bet that’s why Caserio stayed? About to get might interesting in NE.

Bill has nothing up his sleeve.

As BB himself said many times over, coaches coach and player play. Great plays are made by great players, not great coaches.
