Marshall Newhouse appreciation thread

FOXBOROUGH — What’s it like to switch sides as an offensive tackle? “It’s like wiping with the other hand,’’ new Patriot Marshall Newhouse said Monday.

He stole my joke but maybe he's just better suited to the right side, he's obviously has some talent, right, he's in the NFL BB must see something.

He went to the second level twice on runs. Not a ton of pressure from the right side. Damn good game.

Maybe RT is his position and we just shouldn't ask him to play LT. He did a great job finding his assignment today. I even saw him chip a guy and then hustle and hit a great second level block on a play. I almost fell out of my chair in disbelief

Marshall NEW is in da HOUSE!

He played well...bravo

Thanks for starting the thread Zuma, Marshall has received enough vitriol from the forum, its nice to see some love thrown his way. Played good. Entire OL played good. We're going to need all the boys working together for playoff matches against KC and BAL.

He's a FA after this year and was only making $600k. Watch him continue to play a good RT and get a 3y/$30m deal in the offseason.

i didnt notice a difference from Cannon to Him....which is big.

I remember all the talk about how he wasn't at all comfortable on the left side, and his performance reflected that. Now that he's "at home" on the right side, we saw some pretty good play.

Can't be upset with that at all.

That may have a lot to do with it in all honesty....guy may have played RT since pop warner (can just picture Newhouse in pop warner...the big fat kid bogarting all the donuts!)
and now having to switch sides may seem kind of foreign to him...great game by him yesterday in all seriousness

when he came in all I thought was "oh boy, here goes the offense" but other than that first pressure he seemed to settle down and I really didnt notice a difference.

As a side note, I watched the game at a Patriots fan club bar yesterday. When Newhouse entered, the reaction there was the exact same as in Animal House when Delta’s going through the slideshow of pledges and Ken Dorfman (Flounder) pops up on screen. Wasn’t pretty.

I recall when he was signed that he was more of a RT than a LT, so I'm not really shocked to see him be a satisfactory RT. What is more surprising is that I think he played better than Cannon has recently at the position.

It sucks that appreciation threads are being used for jest these days. There are some guys on the team really deserving of these types of threads.

Newhouse is better as a RT and it's better for Brady too, as he can see if/when Newhouse whiffs. I'd feel much better with him playing extended time at RT than at LT. And besides, it's not like Cannon was having a great season. Any dip between Cannon and Newhouse, at least to this point, seems smaller than we may think.

I'll defer when the All-22 buffs weigh in to confirm/refute, but I thought his play on the right side was actually better than just adequate. Every time I remembered to do it, I made a point to really focus on Newhouse, and there were a couple running plays where he was wrecking shop, getting to the next level even.

Any reason Newhouse can’t come in on the goal line as a blocking designated tight end? He sucks but sure would help to have a big extra lineman there. LaCosse isn’t going to provide much push when they’re running it.

Yeah have noticed they’ve had him out there at times as an extra blocker. Don’t know the numbers though in terms of snap counts
