I've been banging the commitment to the run drum much of the season. However, the trick with commitment to the run is getting enough out of it to not make it a likely wasted down. You can't commit to the run when it means a lot of 3rd and 7s. Today, the median run (i.e., your typical play, not average - which gets skewed by those 18 and 25-yard gems) was 4.0 ypc (excluding kneeldowns). That's the result of good blocking, hard running, and a good scheme and play mix. Nobody is going to commit to the run when assignments are getting missed or the defense is ready and making stops, and the typical run gets you 2 ypc. The offensive line made major steps this game, and Elandon Roberts has arrived. He may not have figured out when to chip a DLman on his way through the hole like Devlin, but his guy is not making the tackle.
