Ed Reed and BB on NFL top 100

Thread of the Boomer 100 list. It's pretty terrible. Probably should have just done best of the best from different eras. This is embarrassing.

Dude, are you 5 years old or something?lol

The next session is really interesting because all of Gronk, Gonzalez, Walter Jones, Orlando Pace and Jonathan Ogdan should all be locks with Roaf and Hutchenson being strong candidates. If those 5 locks turn into 1 or 2 selections it will be as if not more egregious than LT, Faulk and Watt not making it.

When it comes to the rest of the list I'm already seeing it as a joke for reasons mentioned. So I wont be shocked when/if the best aren't picked. WR/OT should be the biggest jokes considering what we've seen so far.

The LT and TE lists were pretty good. Only Pace was slighted but that's much less egregious than Watt, LT and Faulk.

For the upcoming WR predictions Moss makes it, TO gets slighted, Megatron makes it, Larry Fitzgerald makes it and no other receivers. I think 3 making it is fair. I do think TO should make the list but won't for political and personality reasons. Marvin Harrison was a playoff dog so I don't feel bad. The rest were all really good but also a product of the era.

I won't be completely shocked if Fitzgerald and Megatron get snubbed but I'm because of their numbers and style of play I'm going to guess they make it.

some really great analysis with the two of them on the Belistrator, plus their interaction and mutual respect is outstanding.

It's too bad Reed played for one of the worst organization in sports.

Everything from the team name, the uniforms , their arrogance and faux tough guy garbage they foribly try to promote as if no other teams have tough players, their cheating with Goodell in tow, the Goodell/Bisciotti relationship where they play golf at Augusta, the horrible human John Harbaugh, and the Ray Lewis statue outside the stadium, it sours it for me. And, I am a big Ed Reed guy. One of the smartest players I've ever seen.

I remember in 2002 I think it was when BC and Brian St.Pierre were driving down the field vs Miami at Chestnut Hill, to win the game, and all of a sudden at like the 3 on the weak side, this DB comes out of nowhere for the INT, and all in one motion as he's being tackled hands it off for a Pick 6. It was Ed Reed. He baited St. Pierre and stole the game. I knew right then and there he'd make a good pro, but never thought he'd be as great as Ronnie Lott.

The way this list is going the only WR thatll make it from the salary cap era is gonna be Moss and Rice

I know I've been killing this list from day 1 but it seems it's actually getting worse.

No Revis, Champ or Sherman who covered the greatest WRs of all-time, when the ball is being passed the more than ever. And thrown like a football not when QBs were passing like they were throwing a dodge ball.

The DT might be the worst of the group? They seriously think those players would work in any era? I'd take Atkins, Wilfork, Sapp & abt 5 others over most of that list.

12 RBs LOL??? Let's make an all-time list, ignore the best players & put in 12 RBs. Idk Idk.

They really put Dutch Clark > LT, Faulk, Peterson & others. Like E James, R Watters & other tier 2 guys wouldn't blow them away.

I get it, it's a boomer list but easily one of the worst I've ever seen. No need try & sell this as the best of the best bc it's obviously NOT that. Should have just done an old timers list before the 80's.

lol

Champ Bailey isn't even better than Ty LAw. Law was the guy who passed the torch to Bailey and then Bailey over to Revis. Law was an all time gamer and took the torch from Deion Sanders.

Also, Revis had like 3 great years. I think people forget about his holdouts or hammies, or this and that. He was good here in NE in 2014, but nowhere near 2007-2009 Revis. Revis's ego destroyed himself.

Just because anything came before when you were born or what you experienced, doesn't mean it was as great or even better than now.

I wish they would come up with an all-time team. All starters, no backups. Just the best at each position.

There'd be a few Patriots on that list, or should be.

this top 100 show is awful. nothing but nonstop back-slapping and ball washing. oh you're so great. no you are. your the best ever. no you are.

Maybe they should've done it by periods and select a few of the best for each one. I have no issues with many recent players not being on the list. The last 15 years is a small part of the 100 years being celebrated.

I'm fine with the lists as is except for one omission - How did they not include Andre Tippett?

10 seasons, averaged 10 sacks per year, could do it all. If Taylor is 1, Andre is 1A.

Not bad at all. Tough to argue w those picks. Agreed on the WRs. I think Moss, Rice, Fitz are locks. Would be surprised if Calvin or TO make it even though they should imo. And I'm not a TO fan at all.

I know we did this before but Clark was legitimately considered the best player of the 1930’s. To not include him, is to say an entire decade doesn’t matter. You can’t say LT, Faulk or Peterson we’re close to the best player of their decades, and running backs just are far less valuable.

It’s a 100 year list, if you aren’t considering the entire decade it’s pointless and shouldn’t exist.

Like are people going to complain when Hutson gets on the WR list?

I would think they miss it tbh.

Hutson almost has to be honest, would be shocked if Alworth isn’t there, Largent, Moss, Rice. That’s 5. Cris Carter, Paul Warfield, TO, brings it to 8.

That leaves Marvin Harrison, Michael Irvin, Tim Brown, Isaac Bruce, Lynn Swan, Fred Biletnikoff, along with Jones and Megatron

The 75th anniversary team was Alworth, Berry, Hutson and Rice. The committee isn't removing people who made this team so they're all locks. I don't think Largent makes it. Warfield is interesting because Bill had major influence on this list and he loves the old Browns and Colts players. I think you're right and he gets in. Cris Carter was a legendary HOF snub for many years. I think he's in the bottom of the list as a maybe and ultimately doesn't make the list.

Lynn Swann definitely should NOT be on this list. Isaac Bruce still can't even get into the HOF. He's not making the list nor should he. Tim Brown is interesting because he'll get bonus points for his special teams numbers.

So the 4 on the 75th team plus Moss makes 5 locks. You know there's going to be a somebody or two like Elroy Hirsh or Lenny Moore who make the squad. That's 7. So all of these other guys are competing for 3 slots. IMO I'd take TO and Fitzgerald and then you can make a case for the last spot being Megatron, Warfield and maybe Brown.

The "boomer" talk/meme is lame (Gen-Xer here), but I do agree that this list looks like it should have come out in 2000, rather than nearly 2020. There have been some all time greats suiting up since the days of Y2K. The list was only going to be something of a novelty to me, but it's losing even that relevance pretty fast.

Clark could be the best player of the 30's & still legitimately not be a top 100 player. They're not mutually exclusive. It's a not a list of the best from each decade. Well aware of the Flying Dutchman but again he doesn't have to be on the list simply bc he was one of the greats from that decade. Was Clark that much better than Tuffy who had more rushing & rec yards I believe?

And you're final point is ironic to say the least considering the list completely discarded recent players.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for the old timers but this is supposed to be the best of the best. We shouldn't have to include anyone simply to remind people who they were.

You seriously arguing Clark > LT/Faulk & abt 10 other guys?

Its a subjective list so we'll always have a difference of opinion which is fine.

I question whether this is even even TRYING to be list of the top 100 players of all time, in the same way as the player TRY to choose the top 100 current players each year.

Obviously (to me) no punter is worthy of the list. I DO INDEED think that special teams
and kickers have shown their value at one of the top 100, but no punters. Also, I don't recall who the fullbacks are. There have been some great ones. I suspect that we would trade any included to get some of the players not included.

It's a nod to the old timers. That's why some are calling the "Boomer" list. WR should be great.

I do love all the talk abt the old heads as I appreciate those guys, games & eras as much as I can. That said it shouldn't come as a surprise when people say they're purposely excluding recent players.

If I was to list the greatest QBs off all-time it would be a good balance between the geezers & newer players. I listed my tiers in another thread I believe. RB/WR & other positions I might go all players that have played in the 80's - present.

Doesn't mean Idk, respect or appreciate those guys. Just don't think they were the absolute best.

Recent players who made it:

Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Rob Gronkowski, Tony Gonzalez, Adam Vinatieri, Junior Seau, Bruce Smith, Jon Randle, Deion Sanders, Rod Woodson, Shane Lechler.

All played at some point in the 2000’s.

Then Brady, Manning, and Moss are all but locks.

Thats 13% of the list at a minimum having played in the 2000’s or later. Then guys like Farve will also make the list most likely

Also obviously people like Belichick who know more about football than you don’t share your opinion on the list. It’s meant to separate out for era.
