"Patriots NT Vince Wilfork has been fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness -- striking an opponent late -- during Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

The play in question came at the opening of the second quarter. The Cowboys faced a second-and-5 from their 43-yard line and Marion Barber rushed for 3 yards. Patriots DE Ty Warren was penalized for unnecessary roughness on the play, and Wilfork -- who was not flagged on the play -- was deemed to have struck tight end Jason Witten late.

Wilfork had previously been fined $12,500 for a low hit on Bills QB J.P. Losman in a Sept. 23 game. He had his hearing for that fine this past Tuesday. No decision has been reached."

this is how harrison ends up being fined so much, because of little shoves and pushes that no one notices but the league doesn't like it. It's all Bull.
Hitting in the NFL  OMG, whats next? fighting in hockey?

So was Roy Williams fined for the completely unnecessary hit on Kyle Brady?

Re: Wilfork fined

Apparently they don't want Wilfork playing football this year.

Re: Wilfork fined

Good! More fuel for the machine.

We should have sent in Cassel for 1 play, had him throw an INT to Williams, and had Vrabel (in at TE) horse collar tackle his sorry butt breaking both ankles.

Re: Wilfork fined

I saw the play, it was when another Patriot was flagged for a personal foul. He hit a guy after the play was over, no doubt. Here we go again with yet another round of "dirty classless Patriots"

I was amazed that wasn't a flag. Absolutely blatant, with every eye in the house on them.

This was the first thing to come to my mind as well!

Re: Wilfork fined

I'd rather a little shove didn't warrant a fine or penalty at all. I know that isn't going to happen with today's Indianapolis Football League, but all I ask for is a little consistency and evenhanded officiating.

Re: Wilfork fined

File under WTF, none of this makes any sense...

embrace the hate :D

Exactly. I saw it too and was astounded that there wasn't a 2nd flag.
Being a Patriot does not give a good player immunity from being called for unnecessary roughness, which that clearly was. Yes, a 'shove' isn't going to hurt another player but the play was clearly over.

There's plenty of anti-Patriot stuff going on without distorting legitimate Pats criticism by calling it hate.

Re: Wilfork fined

Bring it! Do you think it is bothering Vince Wilfork one bit? Do you think it's eating at him that media types are labeling him as a dirty player? All the best defensive tackles have always been mean, nasty, dirty players.

Umm, Patchick was talking about the hit Roy Williams put on Kyle Brady.

That hit bowled over Kyle Brady, not an easy thing to do. It was vicious and unnecessary, light years worse than the Wilfork shove that bothers some people so much.

Did anyone notice what happened before the shove?? usually when there is a shove like that there is an incident BEFORE...so it's like the shove is caught..and whatever was done to Wilfork before is ignored. Just curious as this always happens.

Re: Wilfork fined

What about williams going after Bradys knees in the first quarter. It was so blatant even Sims mentioned it on the broadcast. Why no fine for that.

As said already, patchick is talking about the blatant late hit on K. Bradys' TD catch by R. Williams.

that is just as stupid as the Wilfork fine. Was i pissed when Williams hit K. Brady, hell yes, but i dont think it should have resulted in a fine...the commish is really ruining this league.

Re: Wilfork fined

It is extremely lame for the league to be handing out fines for stuff that was not called in the game. I think it brings a focus to how weak the officiating always has been in the NFL. I know for years the refs were part-timers, and I still think it is the case. This is a multibillion dollar business, and its a disgrace. Then they resort to watching the film later and doling out penalties. As you say in Massachusetts, its retahded.
