Tua Tagovailoa injured today - considered serious

OT:
Years ago, a relative of mine dated a football player at UCLA. Scholarship athletes were all given a NCAA-approved campus job to have spending money.
The job: to turn the campus sprinklers on and off daily.
Note: Campus sprinklers were on timers

Another relative is currently at a D1 school that is part of a major football conference. This relative’s roommate is dating an O lineman who always has cash. During pillow talk he claimed to his girlfriend that the school gives him $10k each year.
He’s not a starter.

Players who go to big time schools are getting paid now. My roomate's brother played for UM and while he never admitted to how much he got paid, it was always implied that he got cash from the university when we went out clubbing and he was spending money.

And while there is an argument these kids should get paid because these schools are making a killing off these kids' backs, they would need to institute some kind of pay cap otherwise the big schools would have free reign and take all the kids even more so now. I imagine it would be like Real Madrid and Barcelona hording all the talented players in La Liga. It would be that kind of imbalance.

The Pats would be dumb not to take him if available (He wont be 26-32) and wouldn't have to stash him too long.

I posted this idea yesterday but got no responses...if Tua falls the Pat's should absolutely take him. His surgery was successful and prognosis good, according to Adam Schefter
Of course but there's a better chance he goes #1. If everything looks good entering the draft he's at best #1, at worst #10-12.

Big, big if.
Yea I say that bc of the reports abt the surgery & distancing from Bo's injury.

If things go even semi-planned he'll be throwing or not long before the draft w all eyes on him so we'll have a decent idea of where he is then.

Patriots fans should remember this.2003 season, week 2 Patriots at Philly.Rosevelt Colvin injured his hip while trying to recover a fumble. It took him a full year to recover. He did not return to playing field untill 2005 season! And some of you want to spend a late first rounder on a player that will not see field for next 2 years?

I think TE and OL are more pressing needs early on for the ‘20 draft. I’m also not sold on Tua due to the mounting injuries.

We wouldn't need him for two years, or until Tom turns 45.

Huh? How can it not be the college's fault but a failure on the school?

Are you saying it's reasonable to assume illiteracy before college? Or did you not read the post to which you are responding closely?

If we're talking round 1, I think there's only going to be one TE drafted and he'll be gone before the Patriots make a selection.

Absolutely. You draft for the player's career, not year one.

He was also never the same player.

And through his 2 years as a full time starter he’s already suffered a sprained knee, an injured quad, had 2 ankle injuries in which surgery was performed and now a dislocated/fractured hip. I will give him credit as he never missed a full game prior to this latest injury (and a bit of luck that the injuries occurred going into a bye or a month off after the SEC title game.)

Saying that, that’s an awful lot of injuries in such of short period of time. In Sony’s case, we knew this was a rb we were taking to finish TBs career, a one contract guy. In Tua’s case we would be taking a franchise QB for the next 10-15 years. Can he be that guy?

This is very sad. This kid was slated to be a top 1st round pick at QB. Not sure if his career is over before it starts now.

If he's healthy, reports/leaks add to that & Bill is comfortable (Saban) then it's a certainly worth considering. Once & a while you gamble on QB bc the value is just tremendous if you hit.

I understand the thought of not liking picking a guy that will sit but you're not winning a thing w/out great QB play in this league.

In terms of value I don't think another position is even a close 2nd. You're literally hoping for miracles w/out one & you follow history those are very few & far between.

Tua should return for his senior season. It would improve his draft stock and will allow him time to rehab from this injury so his body can be NFL ready.

No way - absolutely not.

With how many injuries he’s already suffered, if he’s ever physically capable of playing football again he needs to go to the NFL immediately and earn whatever he can now.
