Very, very happy with a hard fought win tonight. That defense did a great job against an excellent offensive line that they beat into submission. Both Lame Johnson and Peters had to leave the game. I think we can put the "they stink against the run" critique to bed. That Philly team won their last 2 games on the strength of the o-line blocking extremely well. The Pats handled it.

The offense on the other hand was atrocious. They have no place to go but up. I think they will need to score more than 17 points to beat the Cowboys. At home with another week of practice, hopefully they can perform better especially in the red zone. I've been harping about it for weeks. That's the big issue this season. Go Pats!

You speak as if we've never seen Brady pass when it was windy. Brady had more incompletions in the first half then EVER in his career. And, the almost interceptions could have easily lost us the game.
Not excusing him for that, he was off, I'm responding about a lot of short passes.

FYI - Brady is on pace for 22.4 TD passes, his lowest since 2001 (18). At that pace he’d need to play next year to pass Goober. (Brees will end up getting there first anyways.)

???

There is no way the Brady will get an extra 2 seconds because of Wynn. 1/2 a second, maybe.

I think the offense will look much better with Wynn in it. if brady gets even an extra 2 seconds to survey the field it will look better.

We looked lights out in game 1 before wynn went down.

Tom Brady seems pretty down after the win. "Everyone just played for three hours. We're all a little tired."

Tom Brady doesn’t seem thrilled right now. Calls the offense “up and down.” Said the defense is keeping the team in the game.

One of the worst offensive teams in Brady's time. Certainly a terrible OL, they have no running game to speak of and a LT that forces Brady to worry about bailing on every play.

I went back and checked: the offense is projecting to be 13th in the league in DVOA; only the 2003 team was worse on offense at 14th. Indeed this team is much like the 2003 team, which was 2nd in defensive DVOA. Hell, the 7th ranked 2008 Cassel offense was significantly better than this one is right now.

With last year's defense, this would be a 8-8 team. With the 2011 defense, this team might be 5-11. It's highly fortuitous that BB fixed the defense this year.

Wynn will add 1/4 to a 1/2 second for Brady. That should make a HUGE difference.

We don't need an all-pro LT to give us a significant boost over the play of Newhouse.

Actually Wynn instead of Newhouse would be a massive positional upgrade at one of the most important offensive positions and also solidify the entire Oline.

Dorsett will be in concussion protocol, so he could very well miss next week's game. So here's hoping that Sanu's leg rebounds quickly, and Harry has a nice second game.
Yup

I don't think that Meyers is on Brady's good side.

I hope Belichick and McDaniels feel free to experiment the next 4-5 weeks. We're on pace for the #1 or #2 seed, so I'd prefer to lose a couple figuring out different personnel groupings and tweaking the playbook rather than be conservative.

If anything, we need to figure out how to smash the football. With a defense this good most weeks, having a solid running game will allow us to dominate. The constant throw away incompletions by Brady are leading to more plays per game for both us and the competition; as a result, we're tiring out that defense more and more compared to earlier in the season. It's good Brady isn't turning it over or taking sacks, but it means our greatest strength -- the defense -- is put on the field more plays. Even if we can't run effectively, hopefully Wynn being back means we can get more dump off passes as completions so we can eat clock.

I haven’t read all 22 pages. My brother and his fiancée had a baby today, so I had to watch the last 3 qtrs on DVR. But has anyone mentioned how solid Brooks was for us today? It’ll be great to get Chung back when we do, but having Brooks being able to cover a TE with some success was huge for our D today.

Internet or otherwise, some of the backlash he gets is unfair.

Yes, he isn't a good player by any stretch of the imagination. That said, he's clearly doing the best he can to succeed - I don't think for a second that he's intentionally sabotaging the team or trying to play poorly.

All that said, I'm excited to have Wynn back.
It’s not his fault the team didn’t address the LT spot in that offseason in case Wynn got injured again, which he did.

9-1 and leads the league in point differential. Have given up a total of 108 points in 10 games. This team amazingly has "less problems" than just about every team in the league. The difference is the other team issues are mainly on defense while the Pats are on offense. This years version is unlikely to score 3 straight must have TD's against KC in the AFC Championship game but thankfully it seems highly unlikely they will need to.

How some cannot enjoy watching this completely different version of our beloved Patriots is beyond me.

I dare say some folks root more for Brady than the laundry.

No, they aren't. They absolutely lack size on the DL. They've been getting gashed all season by teams with good running games.

They are average in DVOA (14th) vs the run and historically great vs the pass. There is no better defense, although SF is closest -- and 17th against the run.

I'm happy with the results today. Always positive when your last game is a win.

With that said, 17 unanswered points is as well. They now have 32+ minutes of film to work with to fix some issues.

Go Patriots!

With today's NFL so geared to offense in marketing, I suspect a lot of fans believe a team will benefit more from an elite offense than elite defense.

While the offense can't be this bad in the playoffs without costing us a game, I don't think we need to sit around worrying the defense will just turn into a pumpkin when it matters most.

We're elite on defense with a few areas to polish as well as solid to elite on special teams with the kicking game stabilizing. The offense is pedestrian but we're also getting some pieces back. Teams have won the Super Bowl with a weaker phase; it all comes down to how well this defense can carry the team when it matters most.

Just remember a great defense has earned even Peyton Manning's scotched-taped back together body a ring.

This defense is in a much better position than in past seasons in regards to dealing with Chung’s absence.

Nahh. I'd go as far as bottom 5 LT, bottom 15-20 OL. We've seen Dante make chicken pie out of chicken **** before, but that was because we had Gronk, Develin, other healthy offensive linemen, and veteran receivers. I do think if Brady were as comfortable with the offense as he had been between 2010-2018 Newhouse wouldn't be forced to play a "true" #1 left tackle role and most of his deficiencies could've been masked, which is Scar's greatest trait. Then we would just be able to call him bad, instead of WOAT/disastrous
You think it’s Brady’s fault that Brady can’t get 3 seconds in the pocket?
At least you recognize how horrible Newhouse is, you just have to remove the lame excuse.

I know what I saw during the game. I also know that it's not nearly as bad as the Couch Coaches we have on this board would like everyone to believe..
You aren’t a “couch coach”? What separates you from everyone else watching the game at home?
