N'Keal Harry's Production

Put me down for 2 receptions for 25 yards. They'll ease him in.

His YAC ability and running through "trash" is most probably what elevated him to be a first round pick. Some players have the ability even if some individual measures (e.g. top end speed or acceleration) would not indicate that.

Lets see where we are with this in 3-4 weeks because I think he might just surprise you.
I don’t recall him doing that in college, though I didn’t watch every one of their games. I’d be surprised if that’s how we see him used. Running through the secondary for YAC is a bit different than breaking tackles close to, or behind the LOS. But I’m willing to be wrong.

I mean if you watch some of his highlights -- and I know that is a biased sample because that only shows what worked -- you will see that a bunch of them are actually him breaking tackles around the LOS, returning punts or juking people on WR screens.

Now how any of that translates into NFL level where everything is faster ? I dont know. But at least he has some tape that shows his vision when dealing with chaos all around him.

We will see through the rest of the season.

I say 2/25 on 3 targets with one being a CLOSE drop in the corner of the EZ.

I better see him on that f***ing field Sunday. Take off the diapers dude!

Well concensus so far:

3 receptions
25-50 yards + or -

Ray Lewis inactive for the game.

The 1st catch will go for about 20 yards...the other 2-3 will be 5-10.

That’s an exceptionally terrible take on what Brady said. Maybe he doesn’t, but nothing like that came through in that quote. Just that Harry is behind where other guys are that have been there the entire time. No ****. He’s a rookie and he’s missed half the season. Brady also doesn’t want unfair expectations placed on Harry, which pretty much most of this board is (and has been) doing since Brown and Gordon have been let go.

Exactly. He was clearly tempering some of the insane expectations of a " first round pick" coming off of IR. That quote is also two weeks old. Brady's latest quote clearly indicates good progress but still tempers the expectations.

I've said this before but I think Harry was the designated Cordarelle Patterson replacement, filling the same role but with the potential to be a lot more. The offense has missed Patterson in a big way this year - he only played about 50% of snaps last season but whenever he went in motion it helped Brady read defenses and make big plays, and his running and YAC ability was really important on third down and in the red zone. I expect Harry's role Sunday to resemble Patterson's last season - a few catches designed to maximize YAC, maybe one shot downfield, and a couple jet sweeps. I think they'll hit him up early in the scripted part of the game, particularly with sweeps, to try to force defenses to react to his motion later in the game.
Interesting way to break the ice so to speak

All of you know me! I hope makes a catch and breaks away for a LONG gain!

23 carries 130 yards 2 TDS . Bb pulls a law/Rodney 2003 vs manning swap and puts Harry at rb

It’s not just going in motion. Any receiver can do that and accomplish the same thing for Brady. It was the consistent threat to take the jet sweep, break a tackle, and take it the distance. They tried it with Dorsett early on, but Dorsett isn’t breaking tackles like Patterson could. I highly doubt that will be Harry on a consistent basis. He doesn’t have the speed for that. I think he’s going to run many of the same routes as Gordon did. Harry is also a solid downfield blocker so it makes sense to get him on a corner for the quick outs to Edelman/Dorsett/White.

Patterson's motion specifically exposed defensive schemes in a way that other receivers don't because of that jet sweep threat. Harry's strongest trait in college was his YAC ability, and he's got Patterson's massive size.

Film Review: Inside the Patriots' Usage of Jets Sweeps & Cordarrelle Patterson | CLNS Media

1 reception, 7 yards

thrown to 4 times, Brady gives him the death glare and shuns him the rest of the game

Look at you getting optimistic for once.

I will never understand why people like to throw injured rookies under the bus. At least let them play a game before you crucify them.

They're just setting up their "I Told You So" platform in case they happen to be right about him... then they can proclaim they're a "genius" that knew it all along.. and if he turns into a HoFer, everyone is happy and no one cares

Yep, that's the essence of the anti-homer sportswriter shtick. Operant on this board, too.

You just described a certain always hedging Captain around here.
