I don't get your point at all. It is weird to me that people have lamented for years "the lack of swag and confidence" on our D and then the year where they finally get what they want suddenly there is so too arrogance.

It has been really the fans and the media who keep coming up with those historical comparisons while the defense just kept balling the entire season so far. Even yesterday they put the game back on track but our offense was in no shape (yet) to do anything with those gifts.

I honestly would love to see a pointer to where KVN seemed arrogantly because he seems like one of the most level headed players on the defensive unit. This sounds more like Felger talking point to me than anything.

This is the same junk so many people spew after a loss rather than just accept they got beat. “The defense thought they would just waltz in there and came out overconfident”...”The team was too complacent”....”They were looking ahead.” These are silly excuses that make no sense. It’s amazing how spoiled many fans are to think the New England Patriots decided, among their 53 players and coaching staff, that this isn’t a game worth “trying hard for.”

The Pats run defense and ability to defend tight ends were, in my opinion, two somewhat unknowns coming in due to the situations they’ve played in almost all season. Glad Belichick will learn how to coach these challenges now rather than watching film of this game all offseason if it had been an elimination game.

There’s no “the EP”. EP is a terse way of calling plays and concepts. It says nothing about what those plays and concepts ARE. Did Jackson’s college really use a complicated option route offense where all the receivers have at least two options and they have to make the same read the QB does and the QB has to make the same read they do, like the NE offense does?

This entire LJ conversation is hilarious.

The reality and just go to Harbaugh's own words for confirmation you need to adjust your personnel on the offense and your overall playcalling approach if you want to use his most electric skillset which are his legs. This is all "all-in" move where even your backup QB needs to be a similar type player.

Would he be able to develop as a passer to the point we could just run the classic Patriots/McDaniels offense with him ? Eventually maybe, but the thing is -- and we have seen this with JB -- if you are not QB1 and get all the snaps and real world experience out there it will be a slower process for some than others. Anyone who suggests LJ right now would be a fit for a high precision offense as a passer is either drunk or trolling.

Granted he handled his ~ 17 passes yesterday almost flawlessly but most of those were on their terms (3rd/4th & short) and well designed plays exploiting mismatches. He actually never had to diagnose anything complicated himself and never was put under real mental pressure.

If we had been able to stop their run and put them into more 3rd and long situations it would have resulted in a much less favourable passing volume for him. I am pretty confident the rough edges showing when it comes to passing with him are directly correlated with the amount of attempts he has to make. This is how the Steelers got the Ravens into OT using a third string QB and the Browns absolutely **** on them.

As said yesterday if you wanna know in how much trouble personnel wise the offense is right now just realize they played it all out of the same personnel group for essentially the entire game.

The BYE (and return of Wynn against the Cowboys) is here just at the right time and the offense towards the end of the season will look nothing like what we have seen for the first 9-10 games (except the season opener and stretches of the Miami game until the OL injury misery started with Cannon and Wynn).

Exactly what about this is arrogant ? He nails it.. wish I had seen this before writing too much.

This is very wrong. Its wrong because you are basically grouping me with this entity you have created in your head. Now, I agree some fans are like this. However, in the game thread I clearly said "Ravens want to win too" and also said "I don't understand why some people can't give teams credit". I am a pretty level headed guy and this is not me.

With this said and to @luuked

I feel they bought into their hype. I remember after the Jets game, Van Noy seemed really smug about Darnold said he was seeing ghosts. His entire demeanor (think I spelt that right lol) seemed very arrogant to me. I think we forget Patriot players are humans too and have emotions or actions they may want back. How they carried themselves on the field it just seemed like they believed they were unstoppable. Fine if you disagree, but yes this is what I believe. Ravens beat us. 100%. We got beat. That doesn't mean my stance is wrong. They went into win, obviously. Now, could I be wrong? Sure. However I think my post history here is enough to at least suggest I don't present hot takes based on emotions like some people in the game thread.

I dont think there is a wrong or right. If thats how you perceive them then so be it. It doesn't look like you are alone in that but I wonder for how many of those it actually speaks more about how they are projecting their feelings of arrogance about our defense onto the players.

Because I dont think any player or coach has said any thing that acknowledged the "historical" narrative spun by media, "stats" websites and so on. That hype was spun up outside the team.

If anything after going through multiple years of "y'all are trash" takes I would be surprised if people inside the building get too high or too low about things like that in general. Ignore the noise and all that jazz.

I agree with you that this was the right amount of adversity at the right time. But dont really think anyone was terribly out of line.

Just glad no one got injured in this game. Liked what I saw from Sanu and the offense is starting to look better with the no huddle in use. Our defense will know how to handle the Ravens better if we see them again and as for their qb, his career won’t be long unless he gets hits less.

Positive:
- Sanu looks good, integrating well, making plays
- nothing else

Negatives:
- Newhouse
- Theres others, but.. f*** Newhouse

Newhouse isn’t good but he was hardly the biggest problem last night.

True, even the 2000 Ravens gave up 36 to the Jaguars. More importantly, though, I think it could be long-term beneficial to this defense to be so thoroughly humiliated on national TV. They're not historically great, they're not boogeymen, and they sure as hell are not good enough to stop doing their jobs and expect anything good to happen.

This. The Boogeymen just got beaten up.

Is this a guarantee??

Getting past the Eagles? Yeah. I would hate to be them, playing the Pats would just got stomped and now have the bye week to get ready.

Regarding Newhouse, though, I cannot imagine there's no one on the street, like a UDFA who didn't make the roster that can't do at least as well as him. He literally looks like he does not belong in the NFL in any capacity; he is so overmatched you can't even get mad at him. He's trying but he just absolutely sucks. I don't recall a Patriots starter ever being this bad, where literally on almost every play he is so obviously unfit for his job and completely lacks the ability to even be serviceable.

Cameron Fleming says hello.

This. The Boogeymen just got beaten up.
If anything, their weakness on run defense was exposed by Chubb last weekend and the combo Ingrahm/Alexander definitely splayed it open for the world to see last night. I would love to see Baltimore again at Gillette in January. We'll see how much swagger Lamar has then.

He better be ready in two weeks or we can say it!
If he’s not ready in 2 weeks BB will have a lot of explaining to do....

They will not win the SB this year with an OL that plays like this...need Wynn badly

Good post

The defense just got obliterated tonight. They faked us out by playing strong for a few consecutive drives before collapsing. Plenty of penalties hurt our cause on both sides of the ball.

Edelman’s fumble was the turning point. We were driving and seemingly about to take the lead.

The silver lining is that this loss can be a wake up call. It brings that defense back down to Earth and they certainly won’t be giving themselves nicknames for a while. They needed a reality check that, yes they are good and beat up on some pitiful offenses but they are not historically great. In a way I’m glad they’ve got humbled.

The other positive to make note of is that I saw progress in the passing game. Aside from that INT they moved the ball through the air and at times on the ground as well. Sanu is looking like a great pickup at the deadline. He was terrific tonight, though it will go largely unheralded in the loss. But we still have a Newhouse and TE problem that are killing us.

Two weeks to think over this one. The team has some brutal film sessions in store for them.

Finally, the Ravens are not a team I want to run into in the playoffs. Harbaugh has gone against us many times and had more success than any other coach and Jackson is such an untraditional QB that it can make your head spin. Hopefully some other team beats the snot out of them so we don’t have to play them again.

We need to tighten up our run D badly.

Our offense was moving the ball but when you get the game close and then cough up the ball like Jules did it will suck the life out of you and that is what happened.

We will continue to have a pathetic run game until our O line gets better.
BB notoriously has had many underwhelming OL over the years....but this year is one of worst ever. Wynn coming back will help some....but can he stay healthy and stay in there?! Not sure on that... Time will tell
