Patriots activate WR N'Keal Harry off IR

Lol at posters that said he wouldn't be activated until Saturday at 4 pm because of the super secret plan.

But they changed the super secret plan... didn’t you hear? They said they’d email all the cool people...

...oh...

...never mind. :) (jk)

It's all about getting through this game. Once they have that 2 week period it will allow Sanu and Harry to get on the same page as Brady a bit more.

Oddly enough this WR core has 3 new guys in it this year with all new TEs from the year before (I still count Watson as Semi-new). That's a lot of turnover as a position where things are admittedly hard to pick up. it be nice to have some stability there next year.

I really hope Brady doesn't freeze Harry out even if it is late in the season. He's the highest drafted WR the Pats have had in Brady's tenure and so he needs to really try to get him on the same page to make that pick investment worth it.

Excited to see what he can do

Why does it always take so long for Brady to get in tune with his receivers? Sanders played 9 days after being traded to SF and balled out. Drake just arrived at Arizona and also balled out (162 yds from scrimmage).

WTF is it about Brady that he's so F picky. He doesn't seem to take advantage of players natural talents, but rather things need to fit into a prescribed play/role. How many times have we seen receivers wide open that TB doesn't even look at.

I love Tom and get that he's the Goat and all, but GD he sometimes seems like a prima donna.

It'll be interesting to see who is active the next few weeks. If Edelman, Sanu, and Dorsett are the starters, seems like it'll be Meyers vs. Harry, unless if Harry returns punts over Gunner.
I think and this is a huge projection regarding Harry but by December the snaps distribution will be
1 Edelman
2 Harry
3 sanu
4 dorsett
5 Meyers

assuming a lot but if Harry progresses he is the most different of the group

I think you have a large misread of the situation.
Brown was here a couple of days and was a focal point.
Sanu got 5 targets in his first game same as Sanders.
The patriot passing game is complex and receivers need to understand the site reads.
It has nothing to do with Brady. I’m not sure which receivers you are talking about that came here and were shunned by Brady. Can you give some examples?

As far as saying receivers are open and Brady doesn’t look at them I’ve seen none, other that receivers who were later in the progressions. You do realize that he reads coverages and progressions not just scans the field to find who he wants to throw to right?

Funny cause while watching the TNF game, I asked myself the same thing.
Maybe it has something to do with the complexity of the offenses?

We all know Brady is a perfectionist and won't just "throw the ball" to anyone at first.

"He's missed a lot of football, missed a lot of training camp, missed eight regular-season games. So he's just got to try to work at it every day, and it's going to be up to him to put the effort in," Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said.

"Everyone's there to help him, but you've got to go out there and you've got to do it and earn it, and earn the trust of your teammates and coaches and stuff. It's good to have him out there."

Good news for the offense. Should be interesting to see how much he plays tomorrow night.

No, Brady should request that Harry be active and Meyers inactive, so that Harry doesn't get frozen out.

Then when we are in a set that requires WR's, Brady should request that Harry be in the game, while we sit Edelman or Sanu or Dorsett.

Really?

Folks can do the analysis. The vast majority of our sets require 2 or 3 WR's. I want us to ALMOST always use our top 3 wideouts. When we need 4 or 5 receivers, my general preference would be White and Watson.

Meyers has got lots of reps because of injuries. I suppose folks want harry instead, so that he can develop and Meyers can veg out on the inactive bench.

i hear you, but I see it differently. Last year, by necessity, they changed up and went heavy running to win it all. Excellent move by the coaching staff.

this year’s formula, IMO, is « the defense will win the game - so don’t screw it up ». Therefore, I want low risk plays and the ball should go to the most trustworthy players. At this point, I see it like this :

1. Edelman
2. White

Then, after those two options, they can run it, they can chuck it to Dorsett at times, and then anything Sanu & Harry can do is awesome. As long as they learn the playbook, get TB’s trust, and make a few key plays, this team can go all the way.

Don't agree that it has nothing to do with Brady.

I'm just a dumb engineer, so please clarify how he reads coverages and progressions without scanning the field.

Gunner should be inactive and both Meyers/Harry active. Pats need to spread the field and clobber these black birds to submission. Enough of the ****y footing around.

I agree, Sanu being more of a slant inside receiver will see more receptions than Harry will.

Each play has progressions based upon the pre snap read.
If the first option is open, he gets the ball.
If not he goes to option 2, etc.
he isn’t watching all 5 receivers and deciding who to throw to, the play call dictates where you go.
If McDaniels sends in plays all day where WrX is always the 4th or 5th read he isnt getting that ball much.

Don't want to overanalyze Brady's words, but all that seems a bit cynical/negative of him to say. None of what Brady said is objectively untrue, but the tone and choice of words seems fairly cynical.

To harp on all the time Harry has missed and then flip things back to him, by essentially saying, 'we're here to help but you've gotta figure this sh*t out on your own, kid' isn't exactly uplifting or inspiring. Not a single mention of any improvement or positive steps Brady has seen from Harry.

Brady presents himself (especially over the past 5'ish years) as an enlightened, uplifting, positive person. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of that when discussing his rookie WRs. He had similarly unsavory words when discussing Meyers and Gunner earlier this season.

For whatever reason Brady seems to have some low-key, simmering resentment for rookie WRs. He seems to come across as more positive when discussing newcomers who are veterans, like Gordon, Sanu, and AB, for instance.
