If only Pats coaches ever game planned talented mobile QBs.
Firing up Mr Peabody's Wayback Machine...
Bought my 1st TiVo in 2001. Daughter's early November wedding conflicted with a Patriots game. DVRed it. Got home late at night still wired. No problem. We fired up the TiVo and watched the 3-4 week 8 2001 Patriots play Michael Vick's Falcons in Atlanta Stadium. Much less physically fast LBs, less talented D (Tebucky Jones) and far less experienced playing together defensive unit contained and pounded Vick, beating him like a dog and soundly defeating the Falcons by more than the score indicated. Unless Bill is in his dotage, I think he has the talented squad to contain the Ravens evermore.

Err, Vick was out that game. Replace by a very immobile QB!

edit. Vick came in for Chandler.

But the Ravens beat Seattle. Scary.

This is a game where it will be best to play zone on running downs and distance. When you play zone much of the defense is facing the QB while playing man, the defense is facing their man. Using a spy is a good theory providing they don’t get a hat on your spy. I would rather play a more conventional gap control pass rush with zone behind or cover three man underneath.

You know how BB trusts the coverage so explicitly that we are running ridiculous amount of cover zero?

Do a riff on that and don't only have one spy but 1.5 spies. Meaning two spies on some plays only one on others and play with more risk in the backend.

The only way the Ravens will win this game is if Jackson runs crazy. Odds are he will not pass them to a win.

4. DBs: Mostly man coverage, don't spend time watching the QB just worry about your man.

You shouldn't play man against a running qb that much - the help has its back turned to the running QB. To further open up running lanes the Ratbirds are sending multiple WRs/TEs deep to pull the coverage - so again zone is likely what you'll see this coming week. Make him go 12 plays/60 yards with his arm every series.

Sorry Dragda - just saw you posted the same thing.

It's embarrassing.

I think we're getting spoiled by the incredible success of the team. They're doing things that haven't been seen before and will probably never be seen again.

My friend, also a Pats fan, was ranting about "this defense is trash!" every time Chubb had a sizeable run or "Brady is losing it" after throwing the ball away. I wanted to smack him. And there are a lot of 'fans' like him out there.

There's good and bad in everything.

The worst Pats fans that I remember were those that I watched the 2007 SB game with (was that really 12 years ago?) As soon as the Pats took the lead late in the game they were calling for broken legs on the Giants. I blame their bad mojo for that loss and the loss of Brady in 2008.

Jones doesn't have the physicality to bring down Jackson. I wouldn't be surprised if we used two spies in KVN and Collins with split responsibilities. Both have speed and the ability to punish Jackson for taking off.

It's going to be a tall order no matter what they do. Jackson is a Vick in XXL.

Most fans of the Patriots haven't experienced a losing season except for those of us old farts who've been fans for more than 20 years.

Yeah, that is typical. Just haven't seen them play much zone this season. But understand what you are saying and don't disagree per se. What you do lose is at least one safety deep and two corners I. Cover 3 or two safeties in cover 2. I guess it comes down to their preference/situation.

I would say go zone in spread so he can't just pick a lane and go. Man in a 3x set. Put 8 in the box and make him beat you with his arm. I wouldn't be surprised to see 9 man boxes against some of their looks.

Defense gives up 14, maybe 17.

If the offense can find it's way to 21 (or with aid of the defense), we're golden. Seen enough from this defense to think anyone's going off on it.

I wonder if the BillB curse on playing 1st-time QBs will play out come Sunday night...

Here’s one for people still clinging to that quote from a decade ago lol

Maybe Harry won’t be activated vs Ravens.

Wish we could get a Tomlin answer on this one.

“The only ghost we are worried about are the ones inside of us. We accept that and standby it.”

Some observations after reading several Raven MB threads what Raven fans are saying.

After Chubb easily ran through the Pats D the Ravens behind LJ and Kamara will rush for 250 yards.

As long as they can contain Jules there is no one to fear on the Pats O.

They need to be watchful of Patriot gadget plays.

Why did the Ravens let Guy go.

No Ghosts this game unfortunately...but maybe White Suits are in order.
