Hmmm.

Summary from his post, with the last sentence being the most significant (unless you want to apply for the job opening).

A little bit of personal news and site news...

I recently accepted an offer to become the lead NFL writer for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. In fact, Monday was my first official day. I’ll get to the hows and whys in a minute, but what does that mean for BostonSportsJournal.com?

  • For one, I’m not moving. That was one of the conditions of my employment. I’ll be a Boston-based NFL writer, just like I was with when I was at the outlet formerly known at Sports Illustrated. Boston is who we are, it’s what our family loves. We have no plan or desire to leave.
  • Another condition is that I will continue to oversee and be involved with BSJ. I’ll be providing my usual coverage, but that will lessen over time as I bring more writers on board to contribute in my stead.
  • Yes, we’re looking to hire a new Patriots beat writer to carry the day to day coverage. Feel free to inquire.
  • You won’t notice much difference in the short term, but at the least, I will be doing my Patriots game breakdowns and at least one Q&A per week through the season and into the offseason. Perhaps beyond.
  • I’ll continue to appear weekly on Felger & Mazz, unless I’m out of town on assignment. That was the same when I was with SI, which is how I started on the show six years ago. Mike, Tony, Jim, James, Mike Thomas and the entire SportsHub family have been tremendous to me and I thank them for their continued support.
  • Since it’s an NFL role and not as a Raiders reporter, I will still be attending many Patriots games this season. But it will take me out of town on occasion, and to national games, which will enhance the Patriots coverage here in some respects.
  • We will no longer be offering three-year or lifetime memberships for the time being. That’s not fair to anyone.

So hes leaving BSJ with a substantial amount of equity for a seemingly better-paying day job.

I understand that completely.

Replacing Don Banks.

Damn, DAMN, DAMN that title really got my hopes up that Bedard was truly moving on, as in no longer being affiliated as in sold his equity stake. I really miss reading Sean McAdam and would subscribe to BSJ in a minute if it was no longer putting coin in Bedard's pocket.

Replacing Don Banks.

You mean taking up the duties of Don Banks.
The Vegas Review Journal went from the penthouse to the outhouse

BSJ may not be long for this world

Rats! I was hoping this meant azzwipe Bedard would be truly gone from this state, gone from having anything to do with NE sportswriting, and gone from BSJ, so I could subscribe in good conscience.

Seems that way
The failure rate with these fee to read business models is significant and it never ceases to amaze me why investors continue to pile in. The upside seems so limited and the carcasses of failed media entities litter overstuffed trash cans and internet.

For some reason, old media feels very entitled to continue doing things the way they always have.

While I agree 100%, I hope the Athletic defies the odds and continues to thrive. I find their work product to be very high quality.

While Bedard can personally be an irritating pantload, I do enjoy his weekly Pats perspectives on F & M. Could never bring myself to subscribe to BSJ, though. Seems like he's leaving folks in the lurch by jumping ship from his own enterprise.

Yeah, the BSJ is still mired in the same think they started with way back in 2017.

I think the write-ups on this site are as good or better than the commercial stuff except when the beat writers have inside scoops.

How much do I owe you for reading this post?

That’s the thing, why spend $35 / yr for common knowledge and fluff.

Regarding BSM and similar media startups, my best guess is the talent signs on knowing full well these gigs typically last only as long as the seed money lasts.

This place costs half of that, with tons of info shared... plus here, you get all those great mosslost polls!

o_O :D

I never understood why anybody would waste money on bsj kaka.
