Should Pats try to extend Dorsett now?

It's funny how 3 weeks ago a select few thought PD was on the bubble.
I don't know what you are talking about. :p

In all honesty it was after the 3rd preseason game in which I felt Dorsett needs to stay. Harry was just OK and Berrios wasn't cutting it.

The purpose of extending him now is to avoid a price war at the end of the season.
Dorsett’s sure hands are no longer a secret.
Teams have gobs of cap space
The man will have bidders

I can’t get a Troy Brown comparison out of my brain

$6M per year is is just me throwing out a rough estimate.

What do you think a good (realistic) extension amount would be on a basic per-year amount, not getting into guarantees yet?
Yea $6m per seems high for PD.

How about a Jamie Collins extension if he keeps it up? He seems thrilled to be back.

the evil you know is better than the evil you don't know ..... 2 yards per game for 9M/per ..... the pats actually offered him more?

Mariota stinks but damn lol

Wow. That bad.

Looks like Dion is also starting off poorly.

Continuity. That's a word that we cherish when we talk about the OL, RB, and the defense, but in recent years continuity is NOT a word you would use when talking about the WR position. Julian aside, it seems like Brady is constantly working with new WR's every year.....including this one.

AB will be gone (like Revis) after he makes his contribution (however long) this season. His contract is untenable in the 2nd year. Wouldn't it be nice for a change to have the bulk of the WR group back. Gordon, Dorsett, Edelman Harry and Meyers would be a fine start to a WR group entering the 2020 season.

Now the question arises how that happens when Gordon and Dorsett will be FA's in a market that generally overvalues WR's especially ones from successful programs. Not going to be easy given the fact that they currently cost the Pats about $5MM COMBINED. The Pats would likely have to TRIPLE that number at a minimum. Then you add the costs of Brady's expanded cap number, and Thuney, and no one is talking about what Jaime Collins would cost to resign.

Nice to bring back everyone, but it is going to be hard.

Emmanual Sanders will be a FA, gotta think Bill is still interested.

Doubt it. Too many years and wear and tear away from when he was interested.

Something like that won’t happen until Brady is gone and we need to spend heavily on WRs to compensate for the QB rather than spending elsewhere and having the qb compensate for the WRs.

I understand the concept quite well... just don't think it will happen with the player being discussed. How much clearer can I say it at this point? Sheesh. Lol

I'll be glad to be wrong if it happens, though.

Why not? He's still good and probably won't command top dollar at his age.

To be fair if it was up to you he would have been cut already how many times ?

Yup. In favor of Demaryius Thomas.

.

If he continues to prove it, he's making $10M a year from some team. Let's remember Cole Beasley, Adam Humphries, Ryan Grant. It doesn't take much to convince a scrub team to pay WR1 money.

Probably none.

This is great comedy Andy. I will not go through the preseason roster threads but I vividly remember you saying there is no place for him on the roster multiple times.

My blind Grandmother could have told Adam Humphries that. Imagine if we had used his intended $$$$$ on Trent Brown we would be all set at Offensive Tackle for years to come.

He had THE ENTIRE OFFSEASON to work with Mariotta! Look at what Brady did with both Gordon and AB within days! Given what he said about going with Mariotta instead of Brady in the offseason, this may be the most delicious ironic/karma filled thing tweet:
