Duke traded to Broncos

Broncos could be a bottom 5 team so this move could be 50ish picks higher. Better than cutting him and getting nothing, was never making this roster

Dawson is shipped out earlier than any first- or second-rounder in Belichick's tenure. At least they got something in return for him. Previous title belonged to Dominique Easley, who was cut after 2 seasons. Before him, a few others got cut after their third training camp.

Really hope BB didn’t miss on this Williams kid. His track record drafting cornerbacks is abysmal.
...but when it comes to dumpster diving is King Midas.

Really disappointing (but understandable) end to his tenure in NE. I do like that BB doesn’t feel he needs to keep players that don’t work out - but...

Looks like he was traded for a half-eaten sandwich. Too bad, I had high hopes for this second round DB.
A second round DB and a Gator. Bad news written all over that one.

So, he was worth less than the backup tackle we got from Arizona. so far, he's at the top of the mountain as far as Patriots' 2nd round CB busts.

Wow. BB threw in a 7th just to get rid of him. Jesus.

The worst part of this is after getting a good deal to trade out of the second round BB wound up giving up quite a bit to trade back into the second round for Dawson. What a waste of resources, hindsight being 20/20. I did think it was odd at the time that BB had such a hard on for him.

Worst draft pick of the BB era.

On a positive note, this is the opposite of the usual pick swaps, where we're picking a late 6th rounder and getting an early 7th (essentially dropping <10 spots for a player). We're likely to be at the end of the 7th, and the Broncos should be in the middle of the pack. So we're looking at a 30+ spot jump for giving up a player we didn't need. Obviously not recouping our 2nd rounder (or what we traded to move up), but given where we thought he'd be on this depth chart (aka, not on it), it's value. I'll take it.

Chad Jackson: hold my beer.
At least Jackson played. Bill wasted draft capital to move up for DD and then wasted an IR designated to return spot on DD. He never even saw the active roster in his short Patriots career. That is abysmal for a second round pick.

Hard to be a worse second round pick than Jordan Richards but Duke did his best.

Are you trying to hurt Cyrus Jones' feelings here? What is he, chopped liver?

I'm between him and Dominique Easley.

Easley was a calculated gamble of top-10 talent with huge injury risk. Seattle said on record they were drafting him if the Patriots hadn’t.

Regarding Dawson, though, can’t ignore the tremendous talent and depth at the CB position as a factor leading up to this. Otherwise he would just be “a development project” fo another year or two likely to see no playing time and then get cut. Lesser organizations wouldn’t have the balls to cut their losses like this and admit they torched a second round pick, even though it’s common for a second round pick to fail.
