Trade week

Historically THIS is the week when Bill goes to the market and sells his surpluses and grabs his needs. So since we have about 10 days before an even MORE meaningless game, I though its time to speculate on some trades that can benefit us while easing some of the positional pressures to the roster.

1. Elandon Roberts and a 7th round pick for Cameron Braite

Justification - Roberts is a starting quality run defender who has been made redundant by Bentley who has a higher upside, is younger, and cheaper. Braite is a proven TE who has been made redundant by OJ Howard. Good cap space move for the Bucs and we have the space to take him on.

Result - Say goodbye to Lacosse (can't make the club from the tub), Kendrick and Saubert. Braite and Izzo make the roster and we will see where we are come October when Watson returns.

2. Mike Pennell for draft picks...any draft picks. It looks like Pennell is Danny Shelton 2.0. A good player who is having trouble fitting this scheme. It took Shelton a full year to get it and right now Pennell is standing in the way of Bryan Cowart. The guy was a proven run stopper in the Jets system. Lets do him a solid and ship him to a better place for him....and us

3. This is my self serving trade to protect my Binky. Assuming Chung will be back with the team to start the season, and all reports seem to confirm that, I'm trading Daron Harmon to a team that needs a starting FS. Now Harmon's been a decent back up and 3rd Safety, but he's not special. But he DOES have that 3 ring pedigree and would be an asset to a team that is thin at safety. This time I'm looking for a 4th or better on this trade

OK, that's a start. Critique mine, add yours and let's have some fun. All you need is a fertile imagination.... and some balls to pull the trigger. ;)

Like the first two trades. Regarding the third:

Both of the McCortney twins and Chung are now 32 years old. With both of our starting safeties already 32, jettisoning the 28 year old Harmon in favor of some unproven rookies would not seem wise to me. Let's keep Harmon, keep the rookies, and dump weight somewhere else perhaps?

You’ve been on record saying you’re fine it’s chung using cocaine. I think most others won’t agree with this take. Cocaine is a powerful, horrible addictive drug that is nothing like weed. That you would defend or make excuses for chungs actions is mind blowing

If he was using cocaine he would failed his NFL drug test.

Possible moves with:

Burkhead
Roberts
Wise
DT
FLASH
Dawson
Chung
Pennel

good post and i agree with everything except #3. Harmon is one of those guys that is solid and just when you need a big INT, there he is. He has a knack for the ball in big situations. He would have value, but i would like him to stay

Harmon’s level of “special” is relative. IMO, I want to keep him because he IS special. How many teams have a player that knows the system, has a knack for the big INT, can replace a player like Chung - in the SB (!), and could hold down the fort if DMac missed some games ?
I agree 100% with your reasons to keep Harmon, at least for 1 more year.

Every time I play with the Pats picker machine here: Pats Picker 2019 I end up with 58-59 players I really want on the team.

Here are the surpluses/bubble guys we need to get ANYTHING for:

QB: None.

RB: Rex Burkhead (depending on Damien Harris' health)

WR: Maurice Harris (who can't be PUPd and is likely headed for I/R anyway) and Braxton Berrios (if we can get a case of Bud Light for BB...that is a win)

TE: Lance Kendricks (a vet who could be #2/#3 TE anywhere), Eric Saubert (maybe someone needs a ST dude), and Matt LaCosse (inured now and if we trade for another receiving TE...we can move him)

OL: None.

DL/DE: Pennel (case of Bud Light), Adam Butler (if we want Cowart instead), and Derek Rivers (Think he's on the outside looking in now).

LB: Elandon Roberts (I think he's safe though) and Christian Sam (not making the cut).

Secondary: Duke Dawson (2nd round pedigree and still on a rookie deal).

IMO, it's more probable than not that nobody will trade with us unless we throw in something inciting. Most teams will just wait for cut down day..... which makes me think that BB might cut down t 53...but keep surplus players to trade 2-3 days after cut downs (e.g. roll with 1 TE on the roster until we need to call up a TE2 for week 1).

If he was using cocaine he would failed his NFL drug test.

That is not true at all.

However, a vial of coke in his house does not mean it is his or he even used it.

Only two possible truths, far as I can tell. Either Chung is an idiot for leaving his coke lying around, or he needs to smack the **** out of whichever freind/family member is responsible.

As long as he's not suspended this year, who really cares?

Back on topic, I (like many others) like all of Ken's ideas except trading Harmon for the reasons that have already been made. DB depth is a strength. Let's keep it that way.

Obi DID have a good mini and training camp...but it's not showing up in pre-season. I hope he gets more chances in the last pre-season game.

Let's get a decent backup/swing tackle. That's all and then I think we're good. Skipper worries me.

J Jones
D Dawson
D Wise
Our 2020 1st round pick

to Arizona for their 2020 1st round pick

Actually, these are the same basic trade venues that I thought about Cousin. Harmon is serviceable but perhaps.....and I mean perhaps Chung is vamonosed by the League for awhile or the Pats cut him for the pure Chung stupidity. Why do professional athletes need to be in the drug scene?Just dumb.

Another scenario is Duke Dawson. It appears he has been playing some Safety. You know BB will take heat for Dawson being a bust. If we lose Chung and there is an opportunity to trade another Pats drug guy, Harmon, there are options at Saftey.

Perhaps you take Dawson to the Safety side of things, or we know Jason McCourty has been playing in the box . They say Obi has had a strong camp (he is just learning the Safety position). Maybe McCourty can assume the Chung role and Dawson and Obi combined, if they lose Chung, can be the Safety line up with D Mac...... with Brooks and Ebner actually more ST guys who play some? Brooks in the King ST role?

So you have Gilmore, Jackson Williams and Jones at CB

Then you need 4 Safeties; The two McCourtys, Dawson, Obi, keeping Ebner and Brooks as ST guys. Chung is a stupid unknown and Harmon is expendable in this case and can fetch the most trade capital and reduce the CAP some.

Just my thoughts and the logic.
DW Toys

I have one more
I agree with everything you say....IF Chung is out of the picture. HOWEVER, nothing I have read so far would make me think the league is going to do anything to Chung at this time. I expect him to be on the field come Sunday and be on the field on the 8th. JMHO

So if Chung IS with the team this season, THEN what do you do with Harmon?

Not going down with the ship. Hopefully that ship has sailed. I think St. Louis could be a good backup/swing tackle. He has better technique then the Skipper.

An adult doing something that isn't hurting someone else? Yeah I'm gonna defend that.

Get your head out of the backwards war on drugs nonsense.

What do you do with the guy who played 60% of the snaps last season?

I haven't heard much about St Louis, but I bet we could find a better swing tack than either him or Skipper after cut downs or an even better one if we trade someone like Harmon or Dawson. We need to keep our 42 year old QB upright.

What do you do with the guy who played 60% of the snaps last season?
...... and a LOT less in the playoffs. Granted he's nice to have, but is he "necessary", or a key part that a combination of Obi/Brooks/Dawson/Jones couldn't replace him?

I'm not saying he's irreplaceable (very few players are), I was just questioning the idea that somehow he wouldn't have a role if Chung can play. With Chung and McCourty both healthy, he had a major role on this defense, and a few postseason matchups don't really change that for me. I guess I'm just not seeing the potential of Obi and Dawson that you are. Brooks is nice, but as a 4th safety/ST guy, and I want Jones right where he is: Playing slot corner.
