Going to be some tough cuts at the WR position.

With Demaryius Thomas activated, here is my view of WR spot, (projection to keep 6):

Julian Edelman
Josh Gordon (NFI)
N'Keal Harry
Demaryius Thomas
Phillip Dorsett
Jakobi Meyers
Maurice Harris
Braxton Berrios
Gunner Olszewski
Damoun Patterson
Ryan Davis

Detroit is WR starved I could see a possible Dorsett Trade. I would hate to lose Maurice Harris his potential seems UN-tapped we already know what Dorsett can do. And I agree Six WR's minus Dorsett would be fine by me.

Cutting Berrios when Watson returns?

Am I the only one who think this Team carrys One TE Matt LaCosse with the Ben Watson Four game exception?? Really having a hard time seeing two right now. I think Ryan Izzo is just too limited also Eric Saubert is a work in progress. I think both are eligible for our Taxi squad so they would still be part of the in case of injury. That said if either Izzo or Saubert adds value to ST's things could change.

Not sure, but you are definitely the only one using the secret bold/italics coding system.

I have a hard time seeing Dorsett over Harris....we have heard nothing but good things about Harris here. Dorsett is what he is unless the Pats think there is more to Dorsett. In this case I prefer the unknown Harris with Potential over Dorsett.

Cutting Berrios when Watson returns?
Unless he shows something more in the next couple preseason games I would think he is pretty close to the 53rd man on the roster so I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the team only to be cut for someone another team dropped. If he does make it that far I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he was the casualty when Watson comes back. The TE group is an interesting one as well as far as who makes it. Does Kendricks, Lacosse and either Izzo or the kid from the Falcons make it? If that is the case I would assume Izzo or the Falcons kid would be cut if all things were equal with everyone healthy.

The terrain must have been damn near perfect!

I should have actually added that it happened during a brutal winter, and a good portion of it was off-road because Patton wanted to head true north as much as possible.

These things have a way of working themselves out by the time the preseason is over.

You are discounting the fact that dorsett was at times productive last year and has a good rapport with Brady. Harris may never get to that point.

The people NOT surprised had looked to his past history and his contract, and judged that Thomas was very likely to make the 53.

I don’t know. I think the activation of DT took a fair amount of people by surprise, myself included.

Agreed.

However, I see little downside in putting Harris on in-season IR.

You are implying that the team did not sign the contract in good faith. If the team was PLANNING to put Thomas on PUP, the contract is a truly awful contract for Thomas.

I’m not sure what you are suggesting. Thomas signed a one year deal worth 2.9m dollars. He has a dead cap hit of 150k. If the team cuts him, they save 2.75m.

What do you mean by “follow the money?”

Either he recovers from his injury or he doesn’t. The no-risk/team friendly pact that he signed 3 months into his recovery has nothing to do with how quickly or efficiently his body has healed.

Preferring Berrios over Thomas shows a very special kind of football analysis.

TO STATE THE OBVIOUS

1) BERRIOS will likely be on the Practice Squad, although I'm not sure that he is even worth that spot. I would be happy if a contender picks him up and wastes a roster spot on him.

2) Harris could be cut. I think it more likely that he is on the 53 and then put on the in-season IR.

This would be my guess.

Not being able to differentiate a slot receiver from an outside receiver takes a special kid of poster. Berrios and Thomas do not play the same position. Berrios is almost exclusively a slot receiver while DT has played the majority of his career on the outside. There is a redundancy with Harry, Gordon, and DT at this point. They have similar skillsets and we know Harry is a lock and Gordon is pretty much a lock if he can stay out of trouble which leaves DT on the outside looking in as far as I am concerned.

That assumes he has an injury sufficient to cause him to go on IR.

Meyers is a much better slot prospect than Berrios, IMO. If a receiver is going to make this roster based on having a different skillset than the rest of the WRs, I'd expect it to be Dorsett.
